1878 in Act I and II is a crossroads of choice, every voice pulling Obito every which way. The first 1878 is his conflict with remaining strong as a shinobi, every voice tells him to hold onto his empathy and care for others, even enemies, but he is pulled with the conflict that those he fights are after his comrades, and that he might have to shed himself to become a good shinobi. This is reinforced by Kakashi’s adherence to the code, as well, but also that others that seemed to have shed their humanity are efficient and powerful. Out of desire to protect his comrades, he is pulled every which way in this sense. In Act II, it plays again before he discovers Rin and Kakashi chased by Mist shinobi. He wills himself to be strong enough to protect his comrades, to reject Madara's view of the world as unsaveable. But the following events show how this conflict transforms into something new, is he doing what is truly right? Is it wrong to miss himself, that he did away with?
46 & 2 and This City Has No Empathy combo in Act II and Act III represent him donning his mask to return to Konoha to wreak havoc. Unpersoning himself and laying down his feelings and resentment bubbling towards his home, which he is disillusioned with because of all that he has learned. He thinks of how he was treated and how his Clan was treated and how the White Fang was treated, he thinks of the past history of Konoha and how it failed in its mission to keep children from dying in war. He becomes a specter of that desire to keep children from dying, he'd make himself a boogeyman and destroy everything that ever was. Not only is he disillusioned with the system, but with reality itself. Even the best intentions leave things to being spoiled, and everybody can only get what they want in only a dream.
There are, of course, more motifs utilized. I can speak more to it later :)
1878 in Act I is the original studio version here:
Act II:
The reason I use this version in Act I is that it's very gentle and smooth compared to the Live version they recently released. The emphasis in the music is very floaty and feels less weighted than the Live version, in my opinion, and Casey Crescenzo's vocal performance on the Live version is amazing and pronounced to really emphasize to the listener to really, really take in what he is saying. A turning point is coming soon. Also the delivery of "the river, the lake" in the Live version really sets upon dramatics toward the concepts... I use The Lake South to symbolize sheltered innocence in Act I pretty similarly to how it's used in The Dear Hunter's discography. It's a recurring motif that appears in other songs that I also like to use. The River North is similarly used to symbolize the unknown true world, and it plays in my Act I when the Third War begins. In Act II, he is separated from his home, he thinks to the memories of his innocence from before, and of his memories at war, and he is at odds with the ideas presented to him by Madara in Act II: "hands conflicted clearly point their way"
The 46 & 2 I use in Act II is a cover by children, but it's an amazing cover in my opinion. It's in combo with the original version of This City Has No Empathy (Your Sentimental Lie) by Caligula's Horse because his emotions, at this time, are more raw and angered than in Act III, in which he assumes the role in his mind of a burdened martyr of sorts. In Act III, the original 46 & 2 by TOOL is used followed by an acoustic version of This City Has No Empathy to capture a more bitter tone than one full of rage. The vocal performance on the acoustic version is also one that I love. In both occasions, this pattern of songs symbolizes him unpersoning himself to prepare to face his home, to find reasons to hurt the place that made him.
Act II:
Act III:
Exploiting the shit out of Coheed and Cambria's No World For Tomorrow and Between The Buried And Me's Coma Ecliptic for my goddamn Obito Uchiha centric Naruto fanfiction because why the fuck not?
No World For Tomorrow is perfectly suited to donning the cape of an apocalypse-bringer and Coma Ecliptic being what it is, a concept album of a man, who's star has gone out, submitting to a "dream machine" at the disbelief that the world he lives in, that's ending, is his world. Perfect for the character's themes. And of course, I use Coheed's extensive self-reference as motifs that I recontextualize for my autism project. The Crowing has to set up The Reaping/No World For Tomorrow combo, of course, as well as Everything Evil for The Willing Well and The Hound. Coma Ecliptic's Node/The Coma Machine work to set up his descent into denialism, and Rapid Calm (both the original version and The Dear Hunter's cover) does well to represent his struggle against his detachment from the world, where then Option Oblivion/Life In Velvet shows his discarding of his dream world, but in denying himself this dream he has also sealed his fate.
I could go on for literal hours about the shit I'm doing with my playlists to help me draft my plot line for this fanfic, lol
I mean like listen to this shit guys. You're telling me I'm wrong here?

Chapter 3 is finally out! Sorry to say that you'll need an ao3 account to view because AI spoiled everything for all of us.
Check it out, though! It's a doozy.
Some more recent ammonite art
-indosphinctes meeting a sauropod in the shallow waters
-Liparoceras scavenging through a cluster of pseudopecten oysters
-Hildoceratid finding it's resting place after a long death drag through the ocean floor
While taking a nap today I dreamt there was a hazard sign called "never found" which was used to indicate a location where people disappeared never to be seen again
it looked like this
The imagery and vibes of this were so visceral I had to do art about it
(Grayscale version under cut)
i’d love to see how itachi would try to micro manage sasuke’s life in a world where he’s less involved in torture and espionage
I finally posted chapter 2 of my trans Obito fic after 2 years ... sorry
Get ready for the moderately anticipated Part II: Far Too Many Waves To Try!
Make sure to be mindful of the tags, this chapter had a brief discussion of bottom growth.
I've finally actually started outlining my fic. College has been busy and my double major isn't easy. Hopefully I can keep the ball rolling, but please enjoy :)
Night laundry - based on Phlebotomy by @bluefisted
Ok, so I was so thoroughly charmed by this scene where vampire!Obito has to do his chores while also having to deal with his insomniac neighbor who reads smut and notices things. I didn't plan to make all of these panels but I couldn't stop. The whole fic is so so dark and amazing, go read it!
