One time when the Cens are on a string of away games Ilya looks out the plane window and, out of nowhere asks, “what do you think clouds taste like?” Shane had been deep in strategy mode so he hmms a little before answering, “I mean they’re just water, except it’s like condensed and they would be way too cold to consume.” Ilya nods sagely before saying, “so, like slushy.”
Do you think part of the reason Kevin does night practices is cause he still hasn’t acclimated to the change in hours from the nest to the regular world? Like he’s still running on 16 hour days, even though he can sorta function?
Cause now that I’m thinking about it, it explains at least some stuff,,,
Imagine feeling unwanted and misunderstood your entire life and then you meet a beautiful boy who looks at you and only sees you and he's so perfect you think he's too good to be true and then you find out that actually he is real and then he tells you he likes you and then you kiss him and then he tells you you were amazing after a game u actually tried at for him and then you lose him in a fucking deadly riot and you start to realise slowly that he has been hiding something from you this whole time and now he's going to die and you're neither getting him back nor your answers and you're stressed and you're panicking and so you ask ur best friend where he is and what's been going on hoping for a clue to start from and then your best friend goes "you were always going to lose him" Andrew Minyard you are so valid you were Not crazy for that i applaud your restraint actually
Let's ambush mama! 😼
"Why do Pallas cats always look grumpy?"
"Pallas kittens."
The sheer roundness of this kitten must be admired.
people that act like Britain’s colonial past is ancient history, here are some facts:
Afghanistan’s independence was in 1919.
Egypt was in 1922.
Iraq was in 1932.
Jordan was in 1946.
India and Pakistan were in 1947.
Myanmar and Sri Lanka were in 1948.
Libya and Oman were in 1951.
Sudan was in 1956.
Ghana and Malaysia were in 1957.
Singapore was in 1959.
Cyprus and Nigeria were in 1960.
Cameroon, Kuwait, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone were in 1961.
Jamaica, Uganda, and Trinidad and Tobago were in 1962.
Kenya was in 1963.
Malawi, Malta, and Zambia were in 1964.
The Gambia and the Maldives were in 1965.
Barbados, Botswana, Lesotho, and Guyana were in 1966.
Yemen was in 1967.
Eswatini (Swaziland), Nauru, and Mauritius were in 1968.
Fiji and Tonga were in 1970.
Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates were in 1971.
The Bahamas was in 1973.
Grenada was in 1974
Seychelles was in 1976.
Dominica, Tuvalu, and the Solomon Islands were in 1978.
Kiribati and Saint Lucia were in 1979.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were in 1979.
Vanuatu and Zimbabwe were in 1980.
Antigua and Barbuda and Belize were in 1981.
Saint Kitts was in 1983.
Brunei was in 1984.
In addition to that: Northern Ireland is still a British territory. So are the Falkland Islands and Bermuda.
This is in the lifetime of ancestors we have that are still alive. Many of these countries were left in financial ruination after colonization with their resources drained. Many of these countries have been repeatedly bombed by the UK and their allies since independence as well. The very act of independence often resulted in massive loss of life (see the partition of India and Pakistan which resulted in 2 million people dead, 20 million people displaced, and countless others never recovered). Calling it ancient history or underplaying the sheer cruelty of what the British empire did is such a slap in the face to the people who suffered for centuries.
my mother was born before sudan became independent. my father was born when kenya became independent. vanuatu, zimbabwe, antigua and barbuda, belize, saint kitts and brunei were still colonised when margaret thatcher was elected as the UK’s prime minister. this is modern history, not ancient history.
It should be noted that while Egypt was independent on paper in 1922 British influence didn’t end until 1952, as the British backed the Egyptian monarchy– not to mention their recognition of Egypt as a state came with the clause of retaining its right over Sudan and Egypt. Egyptian Independence Day is celebrated as the day the monarchy was toppled in a coup d'etat.
That is not mentioning the Tripartite Aggression, Al-‘Udwān Ath-Thulāthī (العدوان الثلاثي), the British-French-Israeli invasion in 1956– in which Britain and France sought to depose the Egyptian president and regain control of the Suez Canal, which was nationalized that same year. The forces only withdrew because of pressure from the US and the Soviet Union.
The Cold War is remembered in the west with things like the Space Race and the Vietnam War (but as a distant, far away, impersonal tragedy), but it’s remembered here with a period of non-stop aggression and war. It was anything but ‘cold’. This is not ancient history, the aftereffects are felt to this day. The Tripartite Aggression, the Six Day War, the October 6th War, etc. And I’m sure people from other countries and regions can add more events in which colonial powers and the US were involved throughout the last century. My great grandmother lived through British colonization and this entire period of conflict and she died in 2010. My grandparents still remember the cold war and lived through the aftereffects of colonization and heard their parents speak of it.
This is not ancient history. These are event that still affect entire nations to this day and play into modern conflicts and geopolitics. Colonization is not ancient history. Don’t let yourself think it’s a thing of the past when it’s still happening to this day and many parts of the world are still recovering from it or fighting for independence.
My favorite quirk of American English is that since we're constantly exaggerating, sometimes it's more intense to say something slightly less intense. Because like, it means you actually thought about it.
"you look great!" - normal. Anyone could say this. Could be true or could just be lying to be nice. Very normal expected thing to say to someone
"you look good." - gay as hell thing to say to someone.
ancient roman women whose husband keeps looking at the neighbour's boy quintus and he never looks at her that way and she can't even chainsmoke in the kitchen because they don't have marlboro blues in ancient times. and she can't even go to the club because they haven't discovered drum and bass music yet. her friend clodia's having visions of a woman named doechii but neither of them knows what that means
andy weir claiming his story is apolitical is weird and incorrect for a lot of reasons but the biggest one for me is that the two main characters are entirely, vastly different creatures from each other, meeting for the first time in deeply scary and vulnerable situations, and each choose to greet the other as an equal, with excitement, curiosity, and, pardon the pun, grace. I just think that's a really remarkable story to tell in the world we live in.
Hey do you guys think that Grace begins to check all measurements with a neurotic precision and paranoia post-coma? Do you think every time he has to measure anything he double triple quadruple checks he did it right and gets Rocky to look at it? Because a fuck-up in measurements is what got him here? Because if just one person had looked at the astrophage and realized there was too much of it, he would never have been sent out? None of this would've happened? His friends wouldn't have died in that explosion? Do you think he does this with everything, not just science experiments? Everything is?
i can't do this anymore guys. dostoevsky never wrote this. please. can anyone hear me. if you do proper research the earliest version of this quote is from like a 2010 facebook quote with a magenta flower on it. it's gotten so bad that it's even credited to him on goodreads but nobody can source where he wrote it because he fucking didn't. i can't keep seeing this in your web weaves. dostoevsky the author of crime and punishment did not in fact write "you were destined for me. perhaps as a punishment". that is just simply not true. please nod and tell me you understand
"this quote was attributed to me. perhaps as a punishment." -dostoevsky

I like the idea of Kevin’s public persona freaking out the Foxes. Not only in the sense that it’s weird to see Kevin being so polite and proper. But that there’s something eerie about it all that puts them on edge.
Kevin doesn’t just put on a smile and call it a day no his entire demeanour shifts.
Everything from Kevin’s posture to the way he breathes completely changes. The smile on his face looks more natural than his actual smile. They watch as the panic leaves his body and morphs into this false sense of ease as if he were drunk.
When Kevin’s in front of the cameras his friends come face to face with the broken boy Tetsuju created. A picture perfect doll built to smile and please. He shakes hands and plays along when people twice his age joke about what they’d do if they got him alone.
Every move Kevin makes on stage is one someone else decided for him and drilled into his brain. It’s so easy to lose the progress he’s made and fall back into the familiarity of being a puppet and submit to the programming that was beaten into him.
Kevin can’t mess up not even a little because if he reveals that beneath it all he’s a living breathing person well he’s not the only one who’ll be paying for it. He hugs the man that was once his brother as if he never broke him. Both of them talk and laugh and none of it’s real but it has to look at it.
He sits beside Neil once again but the Kevin he knows is so far removed from this one that he may as well have never been there at all.
Okay but imagine being the team of Eridian scientists tasked with keeping Erid's Only Human alive for as long as possible while the whole planet's environment is literally trying to kill him. And then Rocky shows up and is like:
“Grace says he would like half of dome to be water.”
“Oh, is necessary for humans to have large amounts of water question?”
Small Eridian equivalent of a sigh. “No. Not needed for life. In fact Grace will die if he falls in water and does not get out.”
“Tell him we give him water in containers that won't kill him. Lots lots lots of water on Erid for Grace to drink.”
“No. Grace say he want water on ground. Also want it with excess sodium chloride compound so it will be unhealthy for drink.”
“WHY QUESTION???”
Neil, after learning that Jean has a motorcycle: Hey Andrew, why don't you ride a motorcycle? It seems more your speed.
Andrew: They’re for freaks who are just looking for attention. 'Oh, look at me, I'm balancing on two wheels and committing several traffic violations.' Fuck off. Join the circus if you wanna be a freakshow and leave the rest of us the hell alone.
The Foxes, who have barely heard him rant about anything like that before :
Andrew:
Neil: You don't know how to ride a bike, do you?
Aaron: its completely fine to not know how to ride a bike. It's an arbitrary benchmark set on kids for little to no value. Knowing how to ride a bike doesn't benefit or hinder anyone in the long run, anyways. And do you KNOW how many people have life-altering accidents while riding a bike? Its practically lethal.
The Foxes:
Andrew:
Neil: you too, huh?
Ilya's got Shane's on his knees. His thumb is hooked behind Shane's bottom teeth, holding his mouth open, and his fingers are curled under Shane's chin. And Shane's whimpering for Ilya's cock, but every time he leans forward to take it in his mouth, Ilya uses his hold on Shane's face to turn him away. He keeps teasing him with things like, "No, sweetheart, your mouth is full already," or "Can't let you choke, malysh." And Shane is whining and insistent, "Nonono, I can take it, I promise," and "Please, please, I won't choke, you know I won't, Ilya." It comes out garbled around Ilya's thumb, makes drool puddle in Ilya's cupped hand. And then Ilya taps his cock on Shane's cheek, says, "You're making quite a mess," and Shane tries to swallow, says, "Sorry, sorry, Ilya, please," as he struggles to turn his head, reaching for Ilya's cock with his mouth again. Ilya's laugh is low and quiet when he finally, finally drags his cock toward Shane's mouth, leaving a streak of pre-cum across his cheek. "Needy boy. You just want to be full, isn't that right, sweetheart?" he says as he slides his cock in alongside his thumb. And Shane would say yes, but his mouth is busy.
Of course it goes without saying that I am hopelessly dependent on the ingot
