Affirmations for the unsure alterhumans and maybehumans:

You can still be alterhuman even if you acknowledge parts or all of your humanity.

You can still be alterhuman even if you find comfort in human rituals, culture, etc.

You can still be alterhuman even if you display human behaviors and characteristics.

You can still be alterhuman if you look or act nothing like your 'type.

You can still be alterhuman without dysphoria, euphoria, or both.

You can still be alterhuman even if you never plan to transition or present physically or socially as alterhuman.

You can still be alterhuman without blowing hundreds of thousands of dollars on gear.

You can still be alterhuman even if you aren't queer (surprisingly common misconception by the way!)

You can still be alterhuman even if you don't find the furry community appealing.

You can still be alterhuman even if there weren't 'signs' of alterhumanity in your childhood.

You can still be alterhuman even if you find aspects of alter/nonhumanity uncomfortable or scary (and this may change as you discover yourself!)

Even if you aren't alterhuman, it's okay to be human.

No seriously, it's okay to be human in some aspects or all aspects.

You don't have to constantly strive to be the 'most nonhuman thing possible' and you don't have to try and reinvent the wheel coming up with a new term thats 'more nonhuman' or 'further than humanity' than the last.

There are infinite ways to be alterhuman and you may never find a term to define yourself. You might not even find a species to label yourself as.

On the same coin you may find that your experience is painfully common, or not 'original' enough to warrant a 'true' experience. You have to remember that it's okay to be one of the gazillion black wolf psychological therians out there and that it is functionally the same (and has the same moral weight) as having brown eyes.

It's okay to be unlabeled.

It's okay if you wouldn't be considered alterhuman by the old standards from the days when alterhumanity was mostly on independent forum boards.

Grills and grilling aren't relevant anymore and it's better to block people that try to bring that back.

But it is never okay to lie to yourself to fit into a box that's too small for you.

These are mask comms that I finished in February and never posted cuz I was still recovering from top surgery- super freaking happy with this mourning dove and how sweet looking their face came out-

I’ve been very very intensely bird shifty recently and I honestly kinda want to remake my crow mask. We’re in the midst of moving at the moment, but once we’re at the new place, I’m gonna start on some prototype wings, because the mask really doesn’t cut it with wing shifts. I miss having wing prosthetics that fit, but I’ve grown out of all mine and I NEED new ones.

FIRST CETACEAN!!! Figuring out how to make mask that maintains visibility while simultaneously still looking like a dolphin was complicated oh my gods- I am quite pleased with how it did turn out tho. If I do make others in the future, I do think I’m gonna try and find a different method of making the surface beyond using slightly smother fabric to cover it and putting five hundred layers of primer on it ;-;

I love this rat. So much. And this is the very first time I’d done whiskers; I just used fishing line, but I think they look pretty good and seemed to hold up alright!

and using myself as an example, when i refer to my past self as my agab i call her a girl and use she/her even tho im a guy now. but also sometimes it feels less disconnected from my current self so i refer to hymn in the same way i would refer to myself at present. if that makes sense idk its midnight:40 me time and i need sleep

This is super super important and a topic that is significant to me personally.

Mutt is a slur. When you use mutt in reference to human-bodied beings (even yourself) it perpetuates the idea that it's okay to call people that slur. It hurts beings within the community and humans outside of the community. Please do not perpetuate the dehumanization of people of color.

The use of this slur may not be a common problem where you come from, but there are many places and contexts where it is still a big problem, and people coming across your posts may not recognize that.

Being a therian and a racial minority is extremely difficult and as a community we should strive to be as inclusive as possible to critters of all colors.

How did you come across this community?

This one is kind of long to answer.. I had initially heard of the concept of kinning (in the watered down way of relating to a character) like... six years ago, I suppose? I didn't think about it much until mid 2025 when I felt oddly attached to a character in a way I couldn't explain, and I happened to be in a discord sever where lots of people were fictionkin, so I looked up as much as I could find (mainly through tumblr because I felt I'd find more information there than just searching google aimlessly), and I eventually started identifying with the term!! So, in short: Tumblr and Discord, mainly.

When did you awaken?

I kind of started to suspect I was fictionkin around august of 2025, but I only started accepting that in november of 2025 ! ^_^
