Mendels flower is the Hydrangea. Overall it symbolizes heartfelt emotion and can be used to express gratitude for being understood. In Mendels position as a psychiatrist he is the one listening to his patients and understanding their problems while his own feelings and emotions are getting pushed into the background. I feel like Mendels lacking someone who understands and listens to him since he is carrying his own package just like everyone else. In it’s negative sense the hydrangea can also symbolize frigidity and heartlessness. I wouldn’t neccesseraly describe Mendel with these two words but I can’t deny that his profession probably taught him to turn off emotions when it’s needed and to stay serious for other peoples sake.

On another note this flower also symbolizes developing a deeper understanding between two people, in this case refering to his and Trinas relationship which is based on mutual trust and love while growing stronger and stronger over time.

Which leads to the position of his flowers. They are positioned on his back, or rather, growing out of his back, symbolizing Mendels supporting role in the TKF. He is the backbone of the group, the one who’s staying strong for others and always trying to find solutions. He’s the one listening and ignoring conflicts and negative emotions when it’s needed.

seriously though bisexuality being defined as attraction to men and women is a heterosexual’s definition of bisexuality actual bisexual groups and organizations have been defining it as attraction to two or more genders or same and other genders since the nineties and plenty of nb people actually id as bi and refusing to accept how we define ourselves is so absurdly biphobic and heterosexist and jfc it’s 2014 can other queer people fucking realize and acknowledge this

The purple stripe on the bi flag is meant to represent attraction to nb genders and the bisexual manifesto published in Anything That Moves includes the lines “Do not assume that bisexuality is binary or duogamous in nature … In fact, don’t assume that there are only two genders.” That was published in 1990. It’s older than a lot of people here, including me, and older than terms like “pansexual” and “polysexual” by at least a decade. Bi history is important.
