the grey wardens have a chat about homesickness
ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
and now, the birds
Birds 1 and 2/14: Red Winged Blackbird, Male and female, Agelaius phoeniceus
Bird 3/14, American Robin, Turdus migratorius
hoo boy, ok *out of breath*
GIVE IT UP FOR BIRD NUMBUH 5, THE CANADIAN GOOSE, Branta canadensis!!!!
this guy took me about 4 days to completely finish, all of those freakingk coverts were a bear to render
speaking of obnoxious coverts:
bird 5/14, Bluejay, Cyanocitta cristata
the friggin stripes almost got me chat, i may not make it
Madam....
birds 6 and 7: American Goldfinch, Spinus tristis, male and female
pleasantly simple to paint! next is the flickerrrrr
*melts into goo*
BIRD NUMBER 8, (yellow shafted) NORTHERN FLICKERRRRR, Colaptes auratus
genuinely made me start questioning my sanity around day 3, it's half the size the of the goose, WHY did it take me 4 days to finish??
nothing but pain and suffering, i'm sure hope the next bird will be much easier and with FAR less barring :)
in other news, I am losing my mind hairline
SHE'S DONE!!
Bird number 9: Red-tailed hawk, Buteo jamaicensis
my chains are broken i am FREE. although i did have a great deal of fun with this, the barring on the wings itself took me like four days and i am READY to move on
this was a week and a half of continuous work so please excuse me for getting a little emotional in the bg ๐
*does a little jig*
BIRD NUMBER 10!!! The Male Mallard Duck, Anas platyrhynchos
the male and female ones are gonna be posted separately bc they're taking a lot longer lol but yea! super happy i was able to capture the iridescent green of the head, i found metallic green and blue paint at a craft store that really made his head POP. it looks better in person i promise
ALSO!! As this is the 10th one, BIG announcement. The end is in sight!!!!! I plan to finish within the next 3 weeks and there will be a small dedication ceremony/ unveiling happening at the library to commemorate its completion on the 16th of May. If you live in the Western New York region and want to check it out for yourself shoot me a dm!
Also thank you everyone for your kind words and support throughout this whole process, it's been a genuine treat thinking there are potentially thousands of you out there cheering me on while I paint this ๐ฅน
aaaand another one bites the duck,
we're movin right along with bird numero 11!! The lady Mallard!! Anas platyrhyncos
the 16th is looming in the distance so i'm trying to get thru these as quickly as i can so i can have as much time for the GBH as possible. i still need to do the names next to all of them so i've got about a week and a half to finish everything which is GREAT because i have adhd and nothing gets my ass in gear like a fuckin deadline, let me tell you
power couple that they are, here's bird number 12 and 13,
the Northern Cardinals, Cardinalis cardinalis
and NOW that they are complete, ITS GO TIME, in the next five days (library's closed for mother's day ๐ญ๐ญ) i need to have the GBH fully rendered, the names of the birds vectored, weeded, masked, applied to the wall, and then painted, plus additional cattails throughout. I may be able to get away with just getting the GBH done in time for the unveiling and then just have the names and cattails added later, but i'm gonna really try to get it all done in time. BUT, i have a plan. Part of why i take so long on these is because i really am just figuring it out as I do it lmao. there have been many a time where i am sitting on top of the ladder googling "how to paint birds" but I think if i take the time tomorro to do all that figuring out how to approach it beforehand, this will go a lot faster. I may also recruit some of my artist friends to help with the placing of the names... hrmm we'll see.
Anyways, shout out to the librarian who tracked down exactly the thing i needed so i could figure out where to place the highlights in my birds eyes, ur the real mvp
thanks for the reminder, kid
at long last, we've reached the end...
Bird number 14 out of 14,
The Great blue heron, Ardea herodius
thank you to everyone who reached out or got excited about this project, it genuinely gave me the fuel i needed to keep going. In total, the 480+ total hrs it took me to cover this wall pales in comparison to how long its expected to spend on there, hopefully imparting a sense of beauty and love for the natural world to the next generation and here's hoping i'm only getting started with these.
i'll see y'all soon :')
A crossover of Spy x Family and Batman I made by photoshopping different panels together. I hope you enjoy
Alvin is a raging narcissist and Simon and Theo are held back from their musical potential because of misplaced fraternal loyalty. It is no secret in the industry that Theo's vocals and Simon's lyricism carry the group but Alvin's attention-seeking behavior was exploited by their agent
this is a DEEPLY unfair interpretation of their musical identity that valorizes public scrutiny teebeeache. Thereโs an urge towards overcorrection amongst critical voices that can identify the undervaluation of Theo and Simon as contributors and subsequently develop a narrative of antagonism between them and their frontman and to some extent thatโs understandable, given how big his little shadow is. but the group has always been structured around performance and spectacle in a way that greatly benefits from the strong identity and stage presence granted by such a large personality
It only took 2 seconds on your blog for me to know I could dismiss everything you said. For those who don't know, red icons are a dogwhistle for crypto-Alvinists who, as we saw from the AatC Midwest Fan discord, sought to sow mistrust in the fandom by insisting on "nuance" while secretly attempting to downplay Alvin's public scandals and shit-talking Simon and Theo.
Tell me this, if the group "benefits" from the strong identity, why is it Alvin has to contractually bar Theo and Simon from pursuing solo careers? Why did he veto the proposed name change to "The Chipmunks" in 2013? Hell, if this is all about the group, as you claim, why is it that Alvin features on 67% of all AatC merch while only making up 31% of overall merch sales (and, as if the stats following his disgusting behavior during the 2022 Oscars is to be believed, dropping lower and lower to even 26%)? Admit it, Dave Seville's excuse that Alvin's presence adds any kind of shine to the group is a transparent lie to conceal the fact that Alvin's disastrous public life makes for cheap sales boosts.
It always comes down to the personal attacks with the separatists! as if red isnโt at the core of not only the debut albumโs visual identity but also thematically relevant throughout the whole projectโฆ but once someone has a favorite they start thinking everyone else must also be projecting signatures and solo-fan lockdowns onto their Chipmate accounts.
anyway solos love to bring up Aโs โbehavioral issuesโ as if he didnโt spend half of last year absent from promotions trying to smooth over Tโs violent confrontation with the paps. (which, because Iโm an actual Chipmate, I would never turn into some theo hate train. this is what Iโm saying, the scrutiny and narrativization of their project has created the justification to infringe on their personal lives in a way that keeps getting cyclically encouraged by people who are in it for the sport and moral victories, not the actual music or the art. I think we can all agree that the real villain is the exploitation of their passion for the craft that roped them into a lifetime commitment to careers they were not prepared for and they literally cannot escape ๐)
op is literally a thimon truther so I donโt think we should bother listening to what they say anyways :/
That is not even fucking true? I shared ONE Theo/OC fic in the Theo Chipmates Discord and the author happened to have also written Thimon WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. I made this very clear (with receipts!) in the Google doc. This is yet another example of a transparent smear campaign against Alvin-critical fans. A patently hypocritical act, BTW, given that you guys are literally constantly shipping Alvincest
Oh my god you guys

oh team natsu how i love u
hey so last night i was looking for charming teddy bears, and what should have been a just and noble quest devolved into a horrible discovery:
for around 200 big ones, you can purchase a teddy bear with the body of a man and the eyes of a creature that knows it should not exist
despite the fact it's dressed like the boring guy you avoid at office christmas parties in every ad, it does not, in fact, arrive at your home khaki'd up and ready to go.
he's 5'7" so i hope you just have clothes for an adult man just laying around. and yes, his name is Puffy.
anyways the naked photos further cement his horrid homunculus status.
all of the information provided about this thing make it seem like its creators only have a passing understanding of human beings.
i mean like yeah. that is true. teddy bears are usually shaped like bears and this one certainly is not.
kill the ones you love. puffy is enough.
puffy is enough.
hey! don't be scared, okay?
puffy is a milky brown!

Sometimes I see some variety of North American Little Guy (opossum, raccoon, etc. ) and Iโm like โokayโ
BUT THEN I start thinking about how excited somebody from not-North-America would be to see this Guy. Like, would an Australian be excited to see the only marsupial not from their country? Are there raccoons in zoos on the other side of the world that are regarded as unique and exotic creatures? Idk but itโs made me more excited to see Guys in my area.
it's me, i'm the person described in the tumbl
I went to a zoo in England this past summer, and there were crowds around the skunks, raccoons, and coyotes.
So, as an Australian, going to the zoo in China with a USAmerican and a Jamacian was an experience.
The first thing you should know about this experiences is I'm a fairly bush-raised child. Not entirely, but the vast majority of my school holidays were spent camping or on a property or otherwise out in the bush. (Not the Outback, although sometimes, but definitely the Bush. The great south-west forests, to be specific.)
I have seen more than my fair share of actually wild Australian wildlife. I am severely immune to snakes, spiders, frogs, kangaroos and wild foxes, rabbits and pigs (those shouldn't be in Australia, but they are. Also, if you ever see evidence of pigs in the bush, you leave immediately.)
So here we encounter jarring moment of dissonance the first.
We were walking past the kangaroo paddock and I'll admit I didn't even give it a second glance - it was a case of "Oh, kangaroos, how normal," And moving on. Didn't even register that they would be something to get excited about. It was literally like seeing a bird or the neighbour's cat.
Anyway, after awhile I noticed that I was no longer with my fellows because they were amazed by the kangaroos. They were staring, they were laughing, they were paying money to feed the fucking kangaroos like they were some sort of weird, special, exotic animal.
"Oh for fuck's sake, guys, they're just kangaroos!"
And then I realised I was with non-Australians and felt properly shamed.
We spent some (far too long of a) time with the kangaroos and moved on.
Anyway, as we were leaving we were walking through the American animals section and I've stopped dead in my tracks and squealed with excitement and raced over to an enclosure to coo and generally be a weird, animal-obsessed little moron. I'd never seen this animal in real life before but it was adorable and lovely and the cutest thing ever. And my Americas friends were looking at me like I'd grown another head because the animal that I was enamoured with and had never seen in person before, the animal that I was most excited about out of any that was there (including the baby tiger that I actually got to hold, guys)
The animal was a raccoon.
Your trash creature is someone elseโs treasured encounter
When my father visited a Zoo in Germany, he was amazed to find people eagerly watching what appeared to be a large patch of dirt with holes in it. It took him a minute to realize that the exhibit was for prairie dogs and everyone was waiting to hopefully see one pop it's head out. Dad, who went to school in Eastern Oregon and regularly harassed the local prairie dog population there, had long known how to call them. So to amuse himself, he gave the high whistle he used to use at school and, sure enough, about 15 little heads popped up to see what was happening. What was happening was the local German patrons all losing their god damn minds
