Chat, how do we feel about fics that have no structure whatsoever? I’m talking random scenes, random lengths (of ch), random posting times/days? I tried to do structured and it’s kinda hard for me 🤨 I feel like in the past, random posts and random thoughts/ideas have worked the best for me. I’d usually just post whatever whenever
you know what to do 🤪
Do you prefer to read fanfics that are super structured or do you vibe with random ones?
I prefer structure— plot, chapters, etc
I like random— just throw me into the story anywhere!
I like both pretty much equally
I’m more of a mood/vibes reader
I don’t really care as long as it looks/sounds interesting
Remaining time: 2 days 14 hours
I already have some ‘random’ ones in my recycle bin tbh. I kinda feel like I’d have more interactions if I could stick to one thing (at a time) but that has always been so hard for me!! 🫠😵💫
I ask this mainly because I kind of want to write something for my mermaid Nessian AU but I kinda wanna feel out the vibes first 👺
You know what I’m thinking about? Nessian Mermaid AU. I had previously started a Lucien x Reader mermaid fic, but I never wrote more than the prologue.
But right now, I have a vision of Nesta staring up at Cassian from the water and Cassian seriously considering drowning for her (he can’t swim).
you walk into their room without knocking: ✨acotar boys edition✨
rhysand: he’s trying on his 20th outfit of the day— he needs options— and as he looks at you in the mirror, he smirks. “were you secretly hoping that i’d be naked? because, i mean, that can be arranged.” wink, wink. he also asks you to help him decide between #13 and #9 (and he models them for you).
cassian: he’s either flexing in front of the mirror, listening to music and talking to his muscles (no he is not the least bit embarrassed about it) or he’s knocked out (he’s one of those people that never gets mad when you wake them up).
azriel: he’s either reading or he’s working (on his computer). very rarely, if he’s really focused and doesn’t hear you coming (his hearing is really good), you’ll catch him sketching on his ipad (no, he will not show you what he’s drawing).
lucien: hair mask, skin care, self care— i mean, he is absolutely gorgeous for a reason, right?. he’s either reading (i feel like he reads classics the most), or he’s watching tv (it’s usually a documentary, but sometimes it’s reality tv). idk why i’m getting a crafty vibe from him. i’d go to his room the most tbh.
26. “Just play along, please”— Office romance AU, you and Azriel are work rivals (Azriel x Reader)
X
You turn the corner and feel your lip curl up into a sneer as soon as you see him. You’ve never really been the type to hold grudges but even though it has been years, you just cannot let go of the anger you feel in the pit of your stomach every time you see Azriel.
What started as somewhat of a misunderstanding turned into a heated rivalry— it’s been years of competing for promotions, tallying late days, sick days, and you trying to remove screws from his chair when he is not looking in hopes that it’ll crumble under the enormous weight of his ego (and his giant bulging muscles— seriously what the fuck does he eat?).
He glances up at you over the shoulder of the person he’s talking to in the hallway and you internally kick yourself for standing there enough to be noticed. Your eyes lock and something in his face shifts almost imperceptibly— is that… relief? You fumble for your key card and turn to the door nearest to you and start trying to open it.
“___, wait!” You look at him over your shoulder, still trying to open the door, furiously swiping your card.
He’s walking towards you now and you give up on the door turning on your heel and walking back the way you came.
“Sorry, Azriel, I have to—” He catches your elbow and pulls you back towards him, gently but firmly.
“Sweetheart, you didn’t forget our date tonight, did you?” he says, loud enough to be heard by the woman that is still standing in the same spot Azriel came from. And then quieter, “Just play along, please.”
You open your mouth to say hell no— or something along those lines— when suddenly, one of his hands goes to your waist, pulling your body flush against his and his other hand cradles your head, almost tenderly. He looks into your eyes for a long moment, perhaps giving you a chance to pull away or push him, but you can do nothing but stare back.
And then he is kissing you.
At first it’s a gentle brush of his lips over yours— the kind of rushed kiss couples give each other as a greeting or as a goodbye— and then it’s a gentle nip at your top lip. He’s warm and soft and strong and… why do you hate him again? He starts to pull back, and something in you snaps. You grab his face and pull him back towards you, crushing your lips to his. He’s still for all of a second before his tongue brushes over your bottom lip and you open your mouth, gasping softly. He deepens the kiss, tilting his head to the side, and you melt into his arms as you explore his mouth, licking into it with what can only be described as hunger.
He pulls away, and you whimper softly, eyes still closed. You feel his arms slide over your blouse as he untangles himself from you, and open your eyes to find him smirking down at you.
“Good job making that believable.” His voice is low, but you can tell it’s a little gravelly.
He turns back towards the other woman, keeping a hand loosely at your waist and you start to think you made a huge mistake. And then your mind is spinning and you’re wondering what the hell just happened. You don’t want to look up at him so you start digging around in your purse, pretending you aren’t reeling from the single best kiss you have ever had in your life— and with Azriel, no less. And then you tune into what he is saying and a record scratches in your brain.
“Yes, this is my girlfriend, actually.”
This asshole just kissed you in front of his girlfriend? And just when you couldn’t think any worse of him, he turnes out to be a cheater. You look up, an, apology and an explanation on tip of your tongue, when you notice that he is gesturing at you. You look at him and then back at her.
The other woman looks at him and then back you as well, her smile wavering slightly.
“It’s nice to meet you,” you say, shaking her hand.
Azriel’s hand tightens at your waist, and you glance back at him. “Okay, we have to go, baby.” At your confused look he speaks again, jaw slightly clenched. “Reservations, remember?”
“Right.”
As you’re walking away, after looking over your shoulder to make sure the other woman is out of earshot, you turn on him. “What the hell was that?” Your voice comes out a hiss and a corner of his mouth quirks up. “And never call me ‘sweetheart’ or ‘baby’ again.”
“You totally kissed me back, ___. You kissed me back real bad.”
i reallyyyyy want to do an ask game!!! i started one before but took it off because i wasn’t really feeling it— and now i want to make another one but do prompts instead 🤔
🌙 acotar boys as how i think they’d confess their feelings to you ✨
rhysand: after a grand gesture— he just seems like the type. you have been friends for a relatively short time, but it feels like decades. in just a couple of years he has been able to open you up and know you in a way nobody ever has before. you never expected to fall for your best friend’s brother, and yet here you are. neither of you says anything for a while (even though you both feel the same), too afraid to ruin the most beautiful friendship either of you has ever had. but one day, rhysand decides to take the leap. there’s music, dancing, delicious food, a night under the stars— a lovely party just for you. “just because,” he says with a soft smile. and when it’s just the two of you, slow dancing under the stars to a song only you can hear, he finally tells you.
cassian: a bit clumsily— he’s never really been good with words or with feelings. but with you he feels things he’s never felt before, sees things in a completely different light. his feelings for you catch him so off guard he finds himself at a complete loss for words anytime you’re near. you think something is wrong— suddenly he’s so different around you, almost withdrawn. when you get a job offer out of the city, you decide to take it. as soon as he hears, he’s knocking at your door, desperate. “it’s two in the morning, cass, is everything okay?” “i just, i—”. he stumbles through a blurted confession at your doorstep and gives you the sweetest kiss you have ever had in your life.
azriel: a little shy— azriel has never really been shy. quiet, yes, but never shy. that is until you came into his life. you are all smiles and sparkling eyes, soft words and friendly teasing— he finds himself blushing often around you (though he plays it off coolly (he thinks)). he has always been one to listen more than speak, he likes to observe, but with you he wants to speak. he wants to but… he finds it hard to focus on anything other than your lovely eyes and dazzling smile. he is the first to make a move. he confesses his feelings to you shyly at first and then confidently as he sees you blush a pretty pink at his words for a change. his shyness melts away, though, and your first kiss is something of a dream.
lucien: spontaneously— his feelings for you came out of nowhere. what started as a fiery rivalry that melted into a tentative friendship suddenly became so much more. as he became more comfortable around you, he realized just how wrong about you he had been— you were nothing like the idea he had made up in his mind. you won him over without even trying. he found himself looking for excuses to be with you, reasons to brush his hand against yours, anything to be close to you. when the thought hits him, that he might be in love with you, he says it. he turns to you, suddenly, and “i think i love you.” you’re surprised for all of a second before your lips pull up at one corner, your voice playful, “you think?”. you never thought you’d ever be friends with lucien when you first met him, much less that you’d be the one to kiss him first (but you are).
eris: desperately— i just want him to beg ok? betrayal always hurts— but it hurts so much more when it’s your lifelong best friend that does it. when you heard about it, you first wanted to believe it was a lie. and then you wanted to burn him to the ground. you confront him, “tell me it’s a lie”, “i can’t.” he never meant to hurt you (how could he ever?), but you hurt him first. it’s a whirlwind of emotions— yours and his— and in his frustration and desire for you to just listen and understand, he kisses you. you’re both stunned for a moment before you push him away from you and he blurts out his feelings. he wanted to do this a different way, but he is losing you. in his desperation he tells you right there. he tells you everything.
You’re on a blind date and you bump into your ex, oh no. (Xaden x Reader) [A]
X
You walk into the restaurant, smoothing out the skirt of your dress as you follow the hostess to the bar. You order your usual drink and try your best to look like you don’t want to run out the door and back home. You take a shaky deep breath as the bartender brings back your drink. You’re taking a small sip and looking around when a familiar, sultry voice has you turning sharply to the left.
“Alone, or expecting someone?” Xaden murmurs, taking his own drink from the bartender and sliding his card across the counter.
You roll your eyes and turn your body so you’re facing away from him. He lets out a low chuckle, holding his glass up to his lips as he speaks again. “Right. Not on speaking terms. That’s okay sweetheart,” he takes a swig of his drink before settling the glass down.
He’s quiet for a moment, but just when you start to think he’ll leave you alone—
“Hello, Xaden. Actually, I’m waiting for someone.” he makes his voice slightly higher, pretending it is you answering him. You bring your glass to your lips and take a long swig. “Woah, slow down.” He says the last part in his normal voice.
You turn to look at him then, glaring over the rim of your glass as you drain its contents.
“Don’t tell me what to do, asshole.”His voice is high again, his eyes playful. You stare, face impassive, and he smiles softly— the kind of smile that used to bring you to your knees.
You set your glass down and reach for your bag— this was a stupid idea. You shouldn’t be here. You never should have accepted your friend’s offer to set you up on a blind date, it’s too soon. You slide off the stool and take one step before a hand at your elbow stops you. You look down at Xaden’s hand and then up at his eyes. Something in them feels so painfully sincere that you have to look away.
“I’m sorry, ___. Stay. Please.” His voice is soft, the way it had always been when he talked to you.
You stay in place, not moving to take your seat but not leaving either. You are frozen, the string that you’d always imagined went from your heart to his pulls taut and your heart gives a miserable lurch in your chest towards him.
It still hurts.
You glare at his hand, squaring your shoulders and taking a seat again. You wave at the bartender and gesture another drink. Maybe you should have ordered something stronger. When the bartender sets your glass on the counter, you grab it and throw it back in one swig. This time Xaden simply watches you. You knock back one drink after another— as many as it takes to forget that he is next to you. As many as it takes to forget what he did.
Sorry to be the one to tell you, ___, but he was with me last night.
You blink fast, trying to erase the memory of that message, trying to hold back the tears you had been so sure you were done crying over him. His warmth reaches over the space between you, caressing your arm. He’s too close. You try to shift your seat but your mind is hazy and you feel as if you’re moving through syrup.
His hand automatically comes up to steady you as you sway in your seat and when your eyes meet his you want to scream.
Because no amount of drinks could ever make you forget him, or what he did to you.
X
Xaden pushes a strand of hair behind your ear and smiles softly when you swat his hand away.
“I’ll take your car home for you, okay?”
You’d refused to get in his car or to let him drive you home in your car. But he needed to know you were safe, so he got you a cab.
You stare up at him, blinking, and tears he wasn’t sure you could even feel rolled down your cheeks.
“I loved you, Xaden.” You said, and somehow your voice didn’t slur that time.
Then you pull the door closed and he wonders if you’d actually been as drunk as you seemed, or if his touch had somehow sobered you up. As the car drives away, your words lodge themselves in his heart.
I loved you, Xaden.
All the way to your house and then back to the bar for his car, your words play over and over in his head. On the way to his apartment, he wonders if it had been a good idea to show up tonight, knowing you had a blind date. But he just needed to see you, to touch you, to hear your voice.
I loved you, Xaden.
Xaden locks his car and pulls his phone out of his pocket as he makes his way to his apartment. He has a text from Liam that he never opened.
Let her go, man. Let her be happy.
The thing is. He’s just not sure he can. Xaden steps into his apartment, not even bothering to turn on the lights, and goes to bed.

Roommate AU: Random scene 005– Xaden had a long day at work (x Reader)
X
Xaden sits in his car for a long moment before he finally gets out and makes his way to the apartment. He stares at the front door for several minutes, silently wishing that you’ll be asleep already so you won’t see him like this— you don’t deserve to suffer because of the horrible mood he is in. Xaden actually loves his job, and most days he goes home with the satisfaction of knowing he does what he does very well.
Today just sucked. With a heavy sigh, he puts his key into the lock and opens the door.
You’re facing the fridge, wearing a pink pajama set, and humming to yourself quietly. He drops his keys in the teddy bear dish you put for him on the table by the door— his dish is next to yours, which is a bunny— and starts removing his coat.
“Did you finish my ice cream?”
He closes his eyes and groans internally— he meant to replace it, told himself he would as he put the first spoonful in his mouth. His silence must confirm your suspicions because you let out a grumpy growl.
“Xaden! You know I’m on my period! It’s on the calendar!” You point angrily at the calendar on the fridge, your back still to him.
He knows this— of course he does. He is allowed to eat your snacks at any time as long as he replaces them, except around your period (which you graciously notify him of ahead of time). But he really thought he would get to it and that you wouldn’t notice before he replaced it.
Could this day get any worse?
He is quiet for so long that you finally turn, hands on your hips. But you quickly drop your arms at your sides, tilting your head to the side slightly.
“Are you okay?”
Those three words are too much— he looks down at his feet, shakes his head, and walks over to the bathroom for a quick shower, locking the door behind him.
He walks back out almost an hour later drying his hair with a towel and already feeling a little better now that he is clean and out of his suit. He hears noise in the kitchen and decides he should go and apologize to you, but when he turns the corner he finds that you have dimmed the lights, poured that fruity wine you like into two glasses, and made popcorn.
“Come here,” you say softly and the gentle domestic feeling of it all makes his heart clench as he steps towards you. You take the towel from his hands and gesture at the couch. “Sit, I’ll be right back.”
He sits on the couch, reaching for the glass at his side and takes a sip before leaning back into the cushions. He doesn’t realize he’s closed his eyes until they fly open at the sound of your voice.
“I know a shower always makes me feel better too, but I have something else.” You climb onto the couch next to him and the scent of your shampoo and perfume are actually rather comforting. “Close your eyes,” you murmur, and he obeys, thinking you might kiss him. And thinking that he would like that very much.
“Ah!” A very unmanly yelp escapes him as he feels something cold and slimy on his face. “What the f—” You cut him off with a soft ‘tsk’ and swat his hand away as he reaches for his face.
“Sit still, and close your eyes,” You grumble, smoothing your fingers over his face, spreading the slimy thing.
After several seconds you tap his shoulder and he hums a reply. You giggle, “Open your eyes, silly.”
He opens his eyes and laughs— you’re holding up a mirror to his face where he can see that he is wearing a teddy bear shaped face mask. He looks over at you and finds you in a matching one, and it makes him laugh again.
He spends the rest of the evening laughing with you as you both watch tv, carefully eating popcorn and sipping wine, and soon he forgets completely about what happened at work. Somehow, spending time with his roommate that he does not have a crush on always seems to recharge his emotional battery.
