Eridian Grace, as in culturally Eridian, not the species Eridian, is so important to me.

Grace who does jazz hands and taps when he's asking a question and says some words three times like Rocky. Grace who makes chirps and trilling noises when he's happy.

Grace who starts thinking and dreaming in Eridian, who sometimes has dreams that are just sound, no visual. (Grace who, if he ever goes back to Earth for whatever reason after years on Erid, forgets some words in English and speaks in the sentence structure of Eridian because he has to translate from Eridian to English when he speaks outloud).

Grace who does scarification (even if Rocky protests at first) - I've read some fics where he does the Voyager pulsar map, or dots and lines showing his route from Sol, to Tau Ceti, turning around towards Sol, and then the line going all the way back to Erid. Even though he already has the scars from Rocky saving him, maybe Rocky's family crest. A scar showing his rank as Captain of the Hail Mary - maybe something to represent her, too.

Grace who wears Eridian gems, as earrings, in a chain for his glasses, in strings draped over him that clink together when he walks - the most important ones, like the earrings he wears all the time, the color of the blueish-green gems (or spots?) in/on Rocky's carapace.

Grace who wears a bracelet on each arm that have ribbed marks like on Rocky's arm so he can properly say goodbye (not something he had to do, but something that felt right to do, something that made him feel more like himself), sound included.

Grace who considers himself an Eridian!! Grace who IS an Eridian!!

guys I am genuinely all for every single portrayal of grace and Rocky’s relationship. Purely platonic? Amazing. Romantic? Wonderful. Grace, Rocky, and Adrian polycule? Yes, sir. Such a strong and powerful indescribable bond between Rocky and Grace that it is unable to be labeled by either of those terms? Absolutely monumental. God I love this movie.

i wanna see more of rocky calling grace pet names that grace doesn't understand and nobody can call rocky on it cause there's no other eridians on the hail mary. and then once they touch down on erid someone overhears rocky calling grace the eridian version of "baby", freaks the fuck out, and starts spreading rumors. and suddenly all manner of eridians are asking grace about his and rocky's big intergalactic love story, meanwhile grace has been pining from - well, not afar, pretty up close actually - for the better part of five years. and you're telling him him and rocky have apparently been romantically involved this whole time?!

The emotional whump potential of GraceRocky post-canon is underestimated. Rocky returns to Erid as a changed person, both good and bad. He has been MIA for over 400 [Eridian] years. There is a good possibility that Adrian pulled a Dear John on him. And if they didnt? There is an equally good possibility that their relationship falls apart. Not due to whatever it is that he and Grace have going on, although it contributes (I don't believe monogamy would be as strictly enforced culturally as on Earth), but simply because Rocky kinda Came Back Wrong from the perspective of Adrian. Their break-up would be on par of that with a couple who divorced due to child death or tragedy. An amicable and complicated end that just, sucks. One that you can remain friends with and have a deeper connection, enough for Adrian to even remain present in helping Rocky with the biosphere development, but that romantic tie is damaged irreperably.

Meanwhile, Grace is watching this unfold with his Earth biases and assumes he homewrecked. Grace feels guilty and, somewhere deep inside, terrfiied of his precarious position on Erid. If he and Rocky have a falling out, will the plug get pulled on him? Little does he know that he is the only thing keeping Rocky from having a catastophic breakdown. He is the only thing keeping Rocky afloat admist the post-mission debriefings, the bureacracy, the inevitable divorce, the crew eulogies, the PTSD. Co-dependency at its finest and manifested in every way.

When I first read the book, I cried my eyes out. Not just because the story is beautiful (which it is), but because I'd never seen love like this represented in media before. A love like what I experience. A soul-encompassing love that can't exactly be called romantic, but that is undeniably and desperately real. What do you call a platonic soulmate? 🎵🎶🎶🎵🎵

If you haven't read the book but you loved the movie, I highly suggest reading it (or listening to the incredible audio audiobook narrated by Ray Porter!) There is so much depth to their relationship that couldn't be explored in a 2-hour film. Please, treat yourself to it <3
