Ever mentioned in a post that you’re looking for artists to commission and suddenly everyone’s in your DMs saying they can draw anything you like including comics? Sadly those accounts tend to be people stealing art, using Generative AI without disclosing it, or even passing off traced art as their own claiming the client wanted that specific pose. These accounts also target fanfic writers so beware! Never trust anyone who randomly DMs you trying to pressure you into a commission and won’t take no for an answer.

I also do commissions by the way. If you repost this on a funny meme blog for monetary gain later on you better pay me.

WHY WHY WHY......

Why does this keep happening?

Every time I DM someone about commissions, I end up getting ghosted. Most of the time by the time I reach out they've already found another artist.

I keep asking myself: why is everyone ignoring me?

Maybe it's because they think I'm a scammer or a bot.

If that's true then it's heartbreaking because it means genuine artists are paying the price for the damage scammers and bots have done. We have to work twice as hard just to prove that we're real trustworthy people who simply want a chance to do what we love and even after all that effort we still don't always get the opportunity to work.

Or maybe the people I message are just too busy to reply.

I don't know which explanation is true. I just know that constantly being left on read or ignored starts to make you wonder if you're doing something wrong even when you're trying your best.

Has anyone else experienced this? Why does this keep happening?

I’m honestly tired of watching AI generated content and bots flood creative spaces while real artists are ignored or pushed aside.

It feels like people are more impressed by fast, automated outputs than by actual human effort. Real artists spend years learning, practicing, failing and improving. They deal with burnout self doubt and the pressure to keep creating yet their work is often treated like it’s less valuable than something generated in seconds by AI or boosted by bot activity.

Bots and AI can mimic styles and produce endless images or text but they don’t understand struggle, emotion or lived experience. They don’t create from passion they generate from patterns and yet the internet keeps rewarding speed and volume over meaning and effort.

Supporting real artists matters. Human creativity matters. Art is more than automated content and artificial engagement.

I miss when originality, effort and the person behind the work actually meant something.
