Listen it might already have been said but the thing that makes Knives Out and Glass Onion distinct and great compared to mysteries with Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot is that they are both very importantly not focused on the detective.

Benoit Blanc is an great character to be sure, but the journey is focused on the injustice towards the victim. The thing that drives the movie with the thirst and want for an answer is NOT in the pursuit of showing off how smart and intellectual our main detective is, but instead is driven with the pursuit of showing off the compassion and humanity of the main character WHICH is NOT just the detective, but also the victim.

The inherent cold, factual apathy that is present not only in many typical fictional detectives, but in the very nature of our obsession with crimes and mysteries–whether it be a TV show highlighting a detectives’ intellect by showing how little they care for emotions, or a documentary on the “insane brilliant psyche” of a real life serial killer. The FOCUS is always on the crime, on the murderer, on the unfeeling facts and sciences that “must always lead” to an eventual answer.

And that is why it is so refreshing when these movies subvert these tropes, not just on the surface level of telling you who the killer is midway through, or making a perfect crime look idiotic. No, it’s also that they change the very object of desire and that it is not just looking to see who the killer is, but to see who the victims are, and where the justice is. It’s about the victims and their pursuit of closure when the justice system fails them! It’s about the detective being a caring human being instead of a knowledge machine! It is about how there is more to the crime than just solving the crime! but also yeah the movies are good because benoit is gay with hugh grant that too

Inactive Twitter accounts will be deleted

So like I understand the need to free up usernames that were taken and then never used again, but what about accounts of people who died ?

Its unclear if the criteria for an inactive account’s deletion is both “No log in for years AND zero tweets made by the account as a whole,aka empty accounts”

It could very well be “No login for years and zero tweets made during this inactivity”

Which would sucks cuz theres a lot of cool stuff made from accounts who are inactive, and again, all that some families have left from their deceased loved ones is an inactive twitter account.

Back in 2019,this concern was brought up, and Twitter said they wouldnt delete accounts to free up names without making it possible to memorialize accounts of a deceased person first.

Now, Under Elon, i dont know if it will be made.

So if you know an inactive account you really loved.. make sure to save its tweets into the wayback machine, take screenshots, etc.

Just in case.

Also they dont even specify how many years. We’re left in total darkness regarding questions we have.

the most fucking annoying thing in US politics is, whenever there's a strike, people going "well MY working conditions are even worse and you don't see me complaining". maybe you should complain actually! maybe we should collectively drop the mindset that unnecessary suffering proves merit! how fucking brainwashed do you have to be to BRAG about being treated like shit. Whenever I talk with Europeans about my past work life in the US, they're horrified. A couple other American women and I were explaining PTO to a couple Germans in our knitting circle, and they were like, "wait, you get a limited number of days in a year to be sick? Or go on vacation? And they come from the same pool of days? What the fuck?"

And we were like, "yeah, and that's if you're lucky. You're not even legally required to get any paid leave from your job, sick or vacation. Like fast food and most retail, you just don't get paid if you take time off. If your boss even lets you take time off."

Meanwhile, my roommate started having abdominal pain one weekend and went to the doctor on a Tuesday morning. He told her she probably had appendicitis and should go to the hospital. So she did. She got surgery that same evening and was in the hospital until midday Friday. Then she was on sick leave (Krankgeschrieben, as the Germans say) the whole next week and half of the one after that. And if she still felt bad, she could have gone to the doctor for an extension of her sick note. She did zero work in that time. She played a lot of the Witcher and chilled out and rested while her abdomen healed.

In the US, she'd have been back to work the first Monday after discharge.

So, yeah, maybe folks in the US shouldn't be ~proud~ of their suffering and work to change it by unionizing and collectively fighting The Man. (Me, I just left because I could. And landed in the horrendous thicket of German bureaucracy, but here we are.)
