Was reading the lost boys movie script and realized a lot of moments that didn’t make it to the movie / weren’t ever filmed made it into the musical! It was never mentioned in the movie that you can have hallucinations when you start turning into a vampire I guess that got cut. Also, Michael talking to the lost boys about their parents wasn’t in the movie but made it into the musical. The last thing is the scene where star actually pierces Michael’s ear never made it (which is kinda strange I think it’s quite important) was a VERY important scene in the musical. I’m gonna go through the entire script and maybe take notes on it. I really like that they did this :)

so I finally watched the lost boys musical…

so as a longtime fan of the lost boys I was very much looking forward to this (had to watch it from somewhere else I am nowhere close to New York) and safe to say I loved it!!! even if I had some little issues with it I think it is a wonderful display of the story with a lot of added parts to it I really like.

my main favorite thing is how they kept in a LOT of important quotes and lines from the movie. anytime I was kind of expecting it it happened and put a smile on my face. the second thing I am a lot happier with is how queer it was?? like more blantantly compared to the movie where stuff was hinted on but David felt 10x more gay in this I love it. Also the frog brothers and Alan yelling anytime someone said “brothers?” because yeah she IS a frog brother who gaf!!!! Give me more woke lost boys!!!

ok so now to the little problems I have with it that’s bothering me a lot

first off. GRANDPA! THEY FUCKING KILLED HIM HES DEADDD!!! this genuinely made me so sad like I knew they didn’t cast anyone for him but them showing his ashes and saying he’s literally dead is so heartbreaking he was so important in the movie i felt like we were very much missing him. I know he kills max at the end in the movie but I think them changing to Lucy doing it is okay too honestly it’s powerful for her. gave her more of a character in it. ok so also talking about missing characters, no laddie or nanook… I mean you can’t get an actual dog on broadway but there’s always puppets but that could’ve been hard so I see why they would cut him but idk abt laddie maybe he just wasn’t important enough for this version of the story. star did have more of a character arc on her own which I think was pretty cool compared to her really just “being there” in the movie taking care of laddie. she doesn’t have to be like an older sister or motherly figure she deserves her own things. I love you star!!!

so my last actual problem was I felt like Sam and Michael’s relationship wasn’t. All there honestly. He was a lot ruder to Sam in this and in the movie they were such besties messing around with each other constantly and it’s one of my fav things im kinda sad they changed it. but for them to add more stuff abt their dad makes it make a little more sense because they bonded in the end more- Sam not knowing everything that happened with their dad but Michael feeling like he doesn’t belong anywhere and he’s still traumatized was heartbreaking and I relate to that on a personal level. I think it’s interesting they added more onto that when it was kinda vague in the movie, not super important. also another thing important to me is I didn’t really like the rest of the vampires. the casting was weird and too off for me, and I get its kind of a different adaptation but paul, marko, and Dwayne were not similar to their movie counterparts at ALL. I just wish they tried to make them all give the same vibe as their ogs? like at least the same color hair it just throws me off so bad, costume design and stuff is fine I just don’t get why everyone else was allowed to look the same BUT them. Also no hounds of hell in vampires everywhere I completely forgot max didn’t have thorn either. no nanook no thorn… no nanook pushing Paul into the garlic holy water filled bathtub sigh… at least we got Dwayne dying by death by stereo…

Anyways, back to things I loved. A lot of the sets and stuff stayed pretty accurate to the movie’s visuals. The house still had the freak taxidermy, no tv (with the tv guide of course.) the comic book shop and Sam saying talking about the Superman and Batman comics word for word from the og script, and ofc my fav Sam line “my own brother! A goddamn shit sucking vampire! Oh you wait till mom finds out-“ There’s so many quotes they kept that made me so happy… I could just go on and on. im kind of really mentally ill about this movie and anything lost boys overall it means a lot to me in general. I love the lost boys. this will probably not be the only time I talk about this. more fanart soon I promise…
