people might think that even though you are an idol, you dont take part in being fans of other idols. which is furthest from the truth, you would faint if red velvet walked into the same room as you right now. but recently, you had taken a liking to a new boy group from hybe that just debuted little over a month ago, BOYNEXTDOOR.
promotions for your comeback are a success! itzy has been working very hard and you as a group couldn’t feel prouder of yourselves, always giving 110% every comeback. you had just finished a performance of ‘cake’, exiting the stage and getting touched up by your staff, ryujin and chaeryeong feeding the cameras content for your behind the scenes segments. one of your staffs walk up to you, “y/n! in a second come with me, we are going to have you do a collab with jaehyun and sungho from boynextdoor for a ‘cake’ tiktok!” you shout back in agreement. after getting touched up, you follow the staff into a hallway where the two other idols mentioned were also getting touch ups. you were excited honestly, you just found this group but you loved their music and their talents so far.
“hello!” you greeted, the boys turning to you and almost immediately bowing, almost shyly introducing themselves. you bowed as well, introducing yourself and shaking their hands. you figured out who was who, and realized jaehyun was looking a little flushed as you taught the two how to do the challenge. “awesome! are you ready for the first take?” you ask, and they nod. you all go through a few takes, and once you can all agree on one, you part ways. you bow and thank them endlessly, giving them words of encouragement as they hand you a signed album of theirs, which you take with a big smile. you hand them one of yours, and they bow and thank you like you just gifted them with endless life.
that was the first time you have ever met myung jaehyun, and for some odd reason, it was not your last time thinking about him.
you started seeing each other at award shows, giving the typical respect to each other as idols. when boynextdoor performed, you couldn’t help but stare in awe. they were so energetic, born to be preformers, and jaehyun continuously caught your gaze. he looked out to the crowd, and he looked like he belonged up there, this was his realm. you admired that, you admired him. as an idol! of course..
backstage when you would cross ways, (totally due to coincidence) he smiled at you, but it wasnt the same confidence he had on stage. he nervously jerked his hand as a wave (as least to you), and he would awkwardly bow still like 5 times before he finally pulled himself away from your magnetic field. you thought it was cute honestly, you didn’t realize you had so much impact on someone like him. granted you were his fan, and you liked knowing he was yours.
after boynextdoor had released their HOW? album, itzy followed up with their japanese single ‘Algorhythm” shortly, which was your favorite japanese release so far. you seemed to have shared that with jaehyun, as you saw him reply to a fan on weverse asking for a song recommendation, and seeing him list your song. your song. something in your fluttered, and it made you shake your head in denial. no, feelings in the idol world was almost like public execution, everyone would rip you to shreds if they found out you liked myung jaehyun. it wasnt possible, it couldn’t be possible. it had to stay that way.
at inkigayo one day, you so happen to run into boynextdoor when they are filming something for a behind. you accidentally walked into a shot of jaehyun, wide eyed as you try to leave without bringing attention, but jaehyun turns around at the last second. “sunbaenim? ah, hello!” he stumbled on his words, bowing, which you returned. he walked closer, the camera following, which made you panic since you werent exactly camera ready yet.
“onedoor, look who stopped by! y/n sunbaenim, you guys should all go support her and itzy’s music! fighting!” he smiles brightly at the camera, and you smile as well and pat him on the shoulder, which makes him flush. “thank you jaehyun! onedoor, boynextdoor, fighting!” you and jaehyun make eye contact, and for a second it feels like you both are sending sparks to each other telepathically. you clear your throat and look away, bowing to the staff and walking away. jaehyun resumes his normal antics, and you place a hand over your heart that somehow seemed to be going 70 miles per hour.
jaehyun turns to the camera with a slightly flushed face, quickly changing topic. after filming his behind, he went to the dressing room for boynextdoor, walking in with a sigh. but riwoo knew that sigh from anywhere, turning to jaehyun with a donut in his hand, “let me guess, you caught a glimpse of y/n?” he said, jaehyun shushing him as he frantically looks around. “do you want me to get killed? but if you must know.. yes! and more, she touched my shoulder, and wished us good luck, that means something, right?” jaehyun giggles, actually giggles, making riwoo shake his head.
“i just wish it was possible.” he whispered softly, riwoo nodding. “well, we just started our career, let it marinate a bit longer. we have our lives ahead of us, jaehyun.” riwoo clapped him on the back, jaehyun nodded in agreement. the two rejoined the other members in the middle of chaos, but what else was new around here?
you had no way to tell if jaehyun felt how you did, and unfortunately you didn’t know when that day would come. he didn’t know that you lay in bed and day dream like he did, you dont know that he streams your music and stays up for every comeback to see you pop up on his phone screen. you both will never know how the other feels, yet you both wish on a star for that one day where everything was normal, and you can fulfill a love that you both crave from one another.

the one time sungho let himself be open with someone landed him in the hands of fate, you. he let himself be someone he forgot existed within himself, yet, you were the last time he was ever going to make that mistake again.
sungho was a workaholic in college, he couldn’t tell you the last time he got a good night’s sleep to be completely honest. but when he met you, you taught him to relax, to let loose, and he will never forget the night you took him to your—as you called it, “special place”— eulwangni beach. even now as you’ve left him, he goes there to talk to you, always bringing a polaroid of you both at this very beach, holding it in his hands as he wipes away the tears that are landing right onto your face.
your first official date was to an art museum, somewhere sungho had wanted to check out for a while now. you surprised him with tickets to an art gallery viewing, which to this day he has pinned onto his wall. he remembers how he couldn’t peel his eyes off you, no matter how beautiful the art next to you was. you were the real art in his eyes.
at graduation, you both loved to brag you made it as college sweethearts. he kept your cap and gown, he thought that when you look down and watch him as a guardian angel, he wants you to remember that you made great accomplishments when you were gracing this earth with your presence. he also keeps it neat and tidy, you shouldn’t look wrinkled on your guy’s special day right?
sungho never had a sweet tooth, occasional cookies and chocolates, nothing too much. you introduced him to your favorite snack, chocolate covered açaí blueberries, and he swore he saw heaven open up. he still eats them, and everytime he does he wishes you were still right next to him to share with. that’s the only sweet thing in his life now that you’re gone.

a/n ~ hello my amazing people my babies hi!! sungho would never act like this just to clarify... NOT MY SUNGHO!!! though i hope you guys enjoy this nonetheless, i love when my midnight ideas make my heart hurt!! (also sorry if you are reading this in light mode.. this probably looks odd and the colors prob look crazy..) anyways hopefully this grind continues i wont starve you guys again i promise. this was a lot shorter than i wouldve liked but alas my brain wasnt working anymore so unfortunately this is what we have to work with. ~ 🍄.
“are you SERIOUS?!” you exclaim with the brightest smile sungho has ever seen on your face. “wahh, its almost as if you want me gone!” he playfully complains, crossing his arms as you gently smack his arm. “not even, but you have worked so hard for this sungho! like, you havent left me alone when ranting about it. but you finally got your shot!!” you say with a smile.
you recall all the nights he has showed up on your doorstep with his body on auto pilot, almost like he would collapse then and there. all the hours of calling, listening to him degrade himself just for you to build him back up because, in your words, “you deserve this and so much more.” if you had any other kind of reaction, sungho wouldve been a little concerned. “i leave next week for seoul, to start my training. i.. dont know when i will be coming back, but i do know within time i technically have to for school. dont miss me too much!” sungho shoots you a wink, as you nudge his side. “impossible, you’re my bestfriend! we are supposed to be attached at all times!” you joked, both holding your stomachs in laughter.
after sungho left for his training, seeing him around school was rare. granted, he was away, so it wasnt out of the blue. you were lucky to catch a glimpse of him outside the front office when discussing his absences, school work, graduation requirement, etc. he never missed a greeting, even a quick hug before he was ushered away by a staff member who always seemed to be attached at his hip.
you missed sungho, you really did. your day were, sorta.. empty without him. you didnt realize that even though you teased him about how much he bothers you, you’d miss it. a lot.
you spotted sungho in the halls, no staff in sight, and rushed to take the chance. “sungho!!” you squealed almost, and he turned around to greet you, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. “oh y/n! what’s up?” he asks as he adjusts his backpack. “what’s up? i want an update! let’s get food soon hm? are you gonna be free?” you ask as he slightly sucks against his teeth. “that’s..debatable. see, part of the idol life i can’t really be seen in public, especially with a girl, it would ruin my reputation before i even had one.” he laughed a bit, you tilted your head but did the same, more tight than his. “okay… so no then?” you push. “not yet, i’ll talk to my staff and let you know! i swear.” he said as he pats your head and then was off on his way.
okay, weird. he just, blew you off.. he’s never done that before. you shook it off, maybe this idol stuff really was this strict. that’s a little extreme, but with the way you see how idols are treated now, you understand. you continue on with your day, though this weird feeling never leaves your body, and you feel paranoid for no reason. you manage to tell yourself you were being crazy, that it was nothing and you need to focus on studies. that was until the next time you saw sungho about 2 weeks later.
“sunghoo!!” you say, walking up with a bright smile. but this time when he turns to you, his face looks.. bored in a way? like you’re taking up time of his day. “yeah? do you need something?” he asks, his tone sharp and almost mocking in a way. “oh, i just wanted to say that we agreed to hang out today! at the arcade like we used to?” you say, and you suddenly feel small under his gaze. he hisses a bit, like he forgot. “oh yeah, about that, i forgot to tell you but i cant make it. i am going out with my members later to celebrate our debut. have you listened yet?” he asks, and now he’s suddenly more interested in talking about himself and his group.
“uh yeah i did!! you sounded and looked great!” you complimented, and its as if sungho had life in him again. “thank you so much, really. now i gotta go, you know idol stuff.” sungho laughs a bit as he walks by you without a goodbye or anything, just simply leaving. this was getting weird, sungho was changing in front of your eyes. no way being an idol is this serious?
not like you’d know but, regardless, you wanted your bestfriend back. you missed the nights where you both would have movie marathons, staying up until 4 am sick with junk food and drinks in your systems. you missed when all you two worried about was when you would go back to the arcade again. suddenly that life felt so ideal, and so out of reach. but you reminded yourself that this was sungho’s dream. this is what he’s been chasing for years now, and he has it. you had to he supportive of him no matter what.
you told yourself that you could get use to this. it wasn’t like sungho was your only friend. no, never, you had other people who could fill that void. while this thought satisfied you for a while, you started to become angry. because no, people didn't fill that void, nobody understood you the way sungho did. and at this point your communication with him was rare. you’d text him, tell him about your day, rant about interests you both had in common, all for one word responses, “seen at 1:56 pm”, and sometimes no response at all. and soon it just… stopped. you didn’t try to text first, and he never bothered to reach out anyway.
you’d pass each other in the hallways, everyone knew who sungho was. everyone knew his face on a poster, his name on a billboard, yet when you would make the slightest bit of eye contact, he didnt feel like park sungho from “boynextdoor” , he felt like park sungho, that one guy who came up to you in freshman year and asked for a pencil, then never left your side. if you were given one wish, it would be for a time machine that took you back to the days where you were each other’s everything. before he became obsessed with the fame and the attention, and before you realized just how much he meant to you.

everyone told jaehyun his head was in the clouds, and he believed it. he always dreamt too big, and that realization came crashing when his perfect life was shattered.
you met jaehyun in one of your university classes when he was presenting, after class you complimented him on his knowledge and skill. he didnt know what to say because just like anyone else, he half assed this presentation. but he took your compliments as fuel to try, and he switched his entire school motivation around. he remembers how cute you looked in your big, square glasses, it’s an image he cant erase, but now it haunts him everytime he passes by the pair that rots at his desk.
jaehyun spoiled you rotten, you almost got mad. but he showered you in so much love and affection, looked at you like you hung the stars. which you did in your mind, nobody loved stars more than you. it’s what prompted jaehyun to decorate his roof with glow-in-the-dark stars. now everytime he goes to sleep, he wishes upon them that he meets with you again in his dreams, going to sleep with a sad, yearning smile on his face.

taesan was never a hoarder, not until what he was hoarding was fragments of himself that were falling apart. trying desperately to hold the pieces of you that were in him together.
taesan was such a wannabe nonchalant. so when you gifted him a teddy bear with your voice recording in it for his birthday, he loved it on the outside, showering you with kisses while everyone groaned and shouted “get a room!”, but when he was alone? he would loop the voice recording of you saying “i love you, han dongmin.” while he cuddled it to sleep. nobody prepared for him to have to do this to help him sleep after your passing.
after the realization of you were gone, actually gone, taesan threw himself into the studio and locked himself in there for days on end. he wrote his feelings on paper, how mad he was at the world, but never at you. how much he wishes he would turn back the clock to prevent this from happening. he started using your voice as his producer tag, throwing in a little “t-time!” he had asked you to record for the laughs. now everytime he listens to his work, he cant help but smile and ignore the tear’s blurring his vision.
“hyung, you’re making it worse for yourself. quit going through their instagram profile.” woonhak says as he snatches the phone from taesan’s hands, who whines in protest. “i’m literally fine!” he says, and woonhak just glares at him, taesan wiping his glassy eyes. what? he just wanted to see your pictures of you two together. he never realized how hard he smiled when you were around, and woonhak realized he hasnt seen that same smile ever sense.
“he’s fucking done for.” jaehyun whispers to sungho as they watch taesan hop onto the tattooing chair. “so, anything specific?” the artist asks, and taesan holds out a sticky note with “i love you” in your handwriting. "just this across my forearm?” he asks. this is absolutely the craziest idea he has ever had, but he wanted you to be with him always. you already were in his heart and mind, but this was his final step, the fact that you would never leave his side again.

“you’re just saying that, there’s no way.” you shake your head, and he begins to pepper his kisses up your neck, along your jaw, ending at your lips with a cheeky smile, he knew you couldn’t resist him. “i fall in love with you all over again, everytime.” he whispers, and you give in, kissing him softly just like he wanted. “now, what would you like to eat for breakfast, beautiful?”

“one year next week, isnt that crazy?” you shift the subject, and he follows. “i know! one year ago i asked the most beautiful and amazing girl to be mine, and i dont regret it one bit.” he coos, eyes admiring you like he sculpted you himself. “you’re so cheesy, i like it, dont change.” you say as you kiss his cheek and the look down at your phone as you get a message from your mutual friend jaehyun. “oh! i’ll be back later baby, i gotta.. run an errand.” you say, standing up and gathering your belongings. “huh? we always run errands together, where are you going?” he stands, and his sulky mode is back.
you smile and pat his cheek. “you cant come on this one, it’s.. secret!” you kiss his cheek again, and then the pout on his lips. “i’ll see you tomorrow okay?” you walk to the door and he follows, practically dragging his feet. “what is it?” he tries and you just shoot him a glance, and he cant help but smile. “fine, you hate me.” he crosses his arms. “not true, bye baby. i love you~.” you say and he folds almost immediately. “i love you more. bye baby!” he exclaims as you walk out of his apartment.
riwoo was getting anxious, you had never been this secretive. why were you scared of him going into your phone all of a sudden? why did he notice inside jokes you had with jaehyun? he told himself he was scaring himself, no way you would cheat on him with jaehyun of all people. you wouldn’t right?
it was the day before your anniversary, and you noticed riwoo was being very.. on edge. he was skeptical around you, even dodging your pecks and kisses, he never did that before. “riwoo?” you call from the doorway of the bedroom as he lays on the bed. “hm?” he asks as he almost barely spares you a glance. “what’s up with you today? we have barely interacted.” you say as you walk in and sit at the edge.
he sits up, turning his phone off and staring down at the covers, tracing the patterns with his fingers. “are you cheating on me with jaehyun?” he asks suddenly, ripping the bandaid off somehow. your eyes go wide, with both shock and disbelief, “huh? where the heck did you get that idea?!” you say as you turn your body fully to face him. “you’ve been hanging out with him a lot! you guys have inside jokes and i dont know..” riwoo trails off with a shrug. you sigh, scooting closer and pulling his hand into your lap, which makes him finally look at you.
“there is a reason for it, and it’s gonna ruin my plans but i cant handle you being like this with me anymore.” you start, and riwoo furrows his eyebrows in confusion. “plan-?” he was about to interrupt before you kept going. “jaehyun has been helping me plan a really big date for us to have tomorrow for our anniversary. he’s helped me buy something for you, and he’s helped me plan out all the places we are going to go to tomorrow.” you squeeze his hand softly. “there is nothing going on between us and there never will be. you are the one i love and the only one i love, riwoo.” you whisper, and riwoo’s body visibly relaxes.
“i.. i’m sorry. i shouldn’t have assumed, i should’ve asked instead if acting like.. a child.” he sighs as he pulls you into a hug. “i’m sorry, i love you.” he whispers, and you only tighten the hug. “i love you more, dont apologize. i know i was being sneaky but it was for a good reason.” you say as you glance at the clock on the nightstand, 12:07. “happy one year anniversary.” you whisper as you pull back, riwoo smiling. “happy one year anniversary.” he whispers as he pulls you into a gentle kiss. you pull back after a few seconds, tilting you head. “would you like your gift now?” you ask, and riwoo nods.
you stand up and go over to your drawer, pulling out a box. you walk back over and place it in his lap. “go on.” you say, and he opens it to reveal a pair of matching rings, a simple gold band, but a thick one at that. “look inside,” and he does, seeing your name engraved on his with the date you both got together, and checks the other to see his name and the date as well. “y/n.. i love it. thank you so much, i love you.” he says as he hugs you again and plants a bunch of kisses all over your face. “not sulky anymore?” you giggle and he just nods, stealing a kiss from your lips.

figuring out your sexuality was difficult, and middle school was a weird time when this was happening. at first you felt off, something just didnt seem... right about it. it took you a minute to come to the conclusion this was in fact okay, this was who you are.
and you had to thank your bestfriend at the time, chaeryeong, for surviving all your crash outs, midnight calls to just rant your mind off, she was there every step of the way, and you wondered constantly why she stuck by you. little did you know, she was a bit more fond of you than you thought.
“y/nnie!!” chaeryeong exclaims as she runs up to you from down the hall, smiles and waves galore. had your heart always beat this fast when you saw her? “hi chae!” you say, closing your locker. “i have a question, my friend cancelled on me for a concert this weekend. i have their extra ticket, would you like to go? its for the marias! i think you like them a bit dont you?” she asks, tilting her head.
“i do a little bit, but im not as big of a fan as you are. though, i wouldn’t mind going at all!” you say, smiling. her face brightens, doing a little dance you know all too well when shes happy. “awesome! we can meet at my house, and go from there! my mom can drive us!” she continues. “of course, i’ll see you then! i gotta get to class.” you bid her a goodbye as you walk off to your next class of the day.
the night of the concert, chaeryeong practically begged you both to dress up, which was out of your lane, but you both ultimately decided to at least match color schemes. anything to make chaeryeong smile, right? apparently you’d do a lot to make her smile..
“girls! are you both ready?” chaeryeong’s mother calls from the kitchen, as you both come running down. “aw! you both look so cute! pictures come on!” her mother continued as you posed. your hand rested around chaeryeong’s waist so easily, and her arms around your shoulder. it was as if you both just fit into each other without question.
the drive over to the venue was more like a listening party, chaeryeong playing you various songs by the marias to prep you for the concert. the more you listened, the more you fell deep into the band, they were definitely your vibe. chaeryeong had a big smile on her face as her mother bids you both her last goodbye, and drives away.
“come come come!” she takes your hand in hers like nothing, making you gulp a bit as you follow her closely through the crowd of people to get into the venue. you both squeeze through the door, hands intertwined because neither of you bothered to let the other go. the only thing you could think about was how soft her hand felt in yours, how it fit so easily with yours.
she led you both to your seats somewhere in the 100s sections, both of you sitting down. it was close to the showtime already, chaeryeong buzzed with excitement next to you and it was contagious for sure. “look look! we are so close!! well as close as we can be.” she smiled sheepishly. you shrugged softly with a smile, nudging her. “girl, dont worry about it. i’m here to see you happy.” you say, and you swore you saw chaeryeong’s cheeks become pinker than they were earlier.. maybe it was lighting, you dont know how makeup would work in these situations.
her attention turned away from you as the light dimmed, jumping out of her seat with cheers. you stood as well, doing the same. chaeryeong had claimed you to be her personal camera, so majority of what you did the concert was record the band as well as chaeryeong herself as she sand every word at the top of her lungs.
you didnt mind doing that for her, seeing the smile she had made your heart swell. at some point, you forgot about recording sometimes, more like the band itself. your eyes stayed on chaeryeong for majority, and she would turn to you and sing like she was serenading you, like it was just you both in this stadium. your eyes took in every part of her face, from the slight sparkle in her eyes, to the moles down her face, to her lips that looked way more tempting to kiss than you remember.
to set the mood even further, the song “All I Really Want Is You” just happened to be playing in the background, the faint sound you both were hearing that just kept getting more muffled the more you stared at one another. until, chaeryeong did the honors of leaning in and kissing you at the perfect lyric. it was as if fireworks went off in your brain, as you cupped her face and pulled her closer.
after a few seconds you pulled back, chaeryeong clearing her throat as she looks away, seeing that the band had gone off for a break before their next set. “so..” you started, making chaeryeong look over at you. “how long have you been wanting to do that?” she asks before you can, making you blush. “a while.. if we are being totally honest. you?” you usher with a nudge. “..middle school?” she admits, making your eyes widen.
“seriously?” you question as she nods, rubbing the back of her neck. “i would’ve said something then, but the era was weird for you, and i didnt want to startle you with new feelings and stuff.” she says as she fidgets with the hem of her skirt. you smile softly, leaning over and kissing her cheek.
“well, in the wise words of the marias, all i’ve really wanted was you, chaeryeong.” you whisper as she turns to you with a laugh, pushing you back gently. “you’re so stupid.” she complains as you just giggle as well. “stupid enough to make you fall for me anyway.” you tease as she looks at you and kisses your cheek.
“so, i dont hear the question.” chaeryeong teases as she crosses her arms and looks away. “ugh, how dare me.” you play as you smile. “miss lee chaeryeong, can i be your girlfriend?” you ask as the band starts another love song coincidentally, chaeryeong smiling. “of course you can.” she says as she kisses you once again, before turning back into her fangirl state. “get up, personal camera!” she teases as she stands you both up, and you lift her phone to record her excitement.

you and sunghoon were attached at the hip when you were children. typical quiet and outgoing duo, you were his voice for many occasions when growing up. he appreciated you for that, you spoke for him and you always knew exactly what he was thinking, you knew how to form words that he couldn’t even think of in the moment.
before he knew it though, that appreciation formed into admiration, and that scared him. he told himself he was insane, he remembers you being this sweet with everyone! you gave everyone hugs, leaned against them occasionally, you gave them gifts, the whole thing! so.. was his mind playing tricks on him? were your hugs tighter when it was him? did you only cling to him? did you pay attention to when he said he liked things, what he wished for?

“y/n, you called me your other half. who says that to a FRIEND?” he looks at you with.. disappointment, hurt, betrayal. you’ve never seen him look at you that way, and for a moment your heart stops. “i didnt realize that comment would have such underlying tones! i didnt mean to, lead you on?” you say, voice pitched with question because you had no intention of doing something like that. “i said that because i think of you as.. my person. but, platonically, my person. i hold a lot of care for you, and i do love you, just.. not in the way you love me.” you finish, and sunghoon can feel the knife in his heart twist.
he didnt know how to feel, what to say, what to do. he couldnt stop the tears forming at his eyes, but he held it in as he glanced to the pavement ground. “but…” he starts, but gets choked up. “how could i be so stupid..” he mumbled to himself as he sits at the nearest bench. you stand in front of him, torn between comforting him, or leaving. this was your bestfriend, your partner in crime, your other half. though that last label hurts both of you now.
“i understand if you want me to leave. and.. i understand if you never want to see my face again.” you say with a small voice, embarrassment and shame running through you. “no. dont ever say that.” sunghoon says without looking at you as he wipes his eyes. “i cant bear the thought of never seeing you again.” he leans back with a sigh. “no matter how hurt i may feel.” he finishes, looking at you with a smile that just holds something that feels.. like he’s disappointed.
you return this smile with one of your own, a sad and apologetic one. you sit next to him and look down at your lap. “you’ll always be the closest person to my heart, you know that right?” you say as you look at him, and he looks away with a bitter laugh. “okay, now it’s like you want to break my heart.” he teases, though it feels like he’s coping more like it. “dont be like that!” you pout, and he just laughs again, but this one feels more genuine. “okay, i’m sorry. cant i sulk a little~?” he nudges you with his shoulder.

2 years had passed since you and jungwon broke up, safe to say you were shattered. you had to get dragged out by friends and family to even remember what the outside looked like, but eventually your spark came back. you felt relieved, moving on with life as if nothing happened.
until, because the universe loves to stir the pot, you bump into a shoulder that felt all too familiar.
“oh! my god i'm so sorry-“ you say as you turn to meet the pair of eyes you had nightmares about months after the breakup. “..jungwon!” you say, almost breathless of shock.
“y/n..” he trails as he tries to be subtle when he takes in your appearance. you’ve changed, in a good way of course. you look.. brighter. he doesn't know if he should be happy about that or not. “been a while. how are you? how’s it been?” he asked, stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets as he turns his full body to you, attentive.
hm, where was that undivided attention when you two were together?
“it’s going, for sure. just taking it one day at a time. and you? how’s your life?” you ask, tilting your head. “not bad! i’ve been just practicing a lot, preparing to go on tour soon. also, random but would you want to get lunch soon? i’d like to catch up, if that’s okay with you..” his voice shrinks, almost as if he’s embarrassed to ask this.
if jungwon had anything, it was definitely audacity. yet, you were very hard headed, he should’ve known that (though you wouldn’t doubt if he didn't). and you would be lying to yourself if you said you hadn't been thinking about closure for a while, you just wanted answers, was that so bad? “sure, how's tomorrow after i get out of work? at the pizza place in the town square?” you suggest, jungwon taking up the offer a little faster than you thought. “okay, i’ll see you at 6.” you say, monotone like you meant business, then turned and walked away.
jungwon smiled, and he didnt even catch it, before he was brought back to focus by his now girlfriend, the ex who had his heart on lock. “baby, do you like these bracelets i found?” she asks as jungwon drapes his arm around her, clearing his throat like he didnt see you. “of course my love. theyre perfect!” he says with a bigger smile as they go on about their day.
you walked into the restaurant at about 6:15, the walk from your workplace was a bit longer than you thought. jungwon waved you over to the table near the window, walking over as your take your seat, the awkward silence made you both wish the other didnt agree to this. “so, how are you and her?” you start, and jungwon almost physically winced.
“hm?” he plays dumb, and you lean forward a bit, eyes slightly squinting. “you and your girlfriend, jungwon.” you say, your words dripping with sarcasm, and suddenly jungwon felt the hairs on his neck stand. “look, y/n i said i'm sorry. i don't know what else you’d want from me.” he says as he fidgets with his fingers under the table. “that isn't the point jungwon, me now doesnt need the apology as much as me then did. frankly, i'm also at fault in a way, for pursuing a relationship with someone who wasn't ready.” you spit, crossing your arms.
now jungwon felt a bit of annoyance, anger even rise in him. “how do you know i wasn't ready? i did love you! that wasn't a lie, you have no right to tell me if i was or wasn't ready!” his voice got louder, glances started to shift to you both as he calms himself down with a deep breath. “jungwon, think for a fucking second. tell me this, when you talked about me, were you ever smiling? was your heart ever skipping a beat when you thought about me?” he freezes, his eyes darting away from you like he was caught doing something he shouldn't have been, you've seen that one before.
“exactly. you weren’t ready. even when we were at that awkward stage of getting to know each other, i could tell you still loved her. your eyes spoke a lot different than your mouth did.” you continue, feeling defeated at just the thought. he was silent for a few moments, sighing. “i did love you.” he whispered, looking back at you. “but you weren’t in love with me how i was with you.” you finish for him, and he just stares at you with silent agreement in his eyes. “at least we are both to blame like you said.” he said with a bit of hostility behind his tone, making your eyebrows furrow.
“excuse me?” you retaliate. “is that not what you said?” he tested. “alright, when i said that, i meant it in the way of the fact i let it happen to myself. what happened to the saying ‘love makes you do stupid things’? i let something stupid happen to me out of the fact i loved you and wanted to stick by your side through anything like i had promised. i attempted to keep us together more than you did, so don't you ever paint me out like that again when you know it was you who let it rot and decay.” you say sternly, like you were getting upset at a child or something. how could he say something like that after the fall out was practically in his hands?
“i didn’t want it to go that far, i didn't realize it sooner.” he tries to justify, but you just return it with a scoff. “yeah right, you hung out with her more in a day than i’d see you in a week sometimes. you knew where your heart was, and it wasn’t with me. even i knew that, but i loved you too much to come to terms with it. think about how i felt when i couldn’t even get as much as a glance from you some days, let alone a kiss or a hug.” you glance to the side, just thinking about the neglect made you disgusted with yourself, and angry at jungwon.
“i was always told you were too good for me. and now that you’re gone, i realize that too. everyone was right.” jungwon said with a small laugh, trying to lighten the tone as he messed with his jacket zipper. “realized too late, obviously.” he said a bit quieter, to himself. you would've let that get to you, maybe give a little smile, but you were too ticked off by what he said to you to care. you glanced at the time on your phone. “i’m going, i got what i needed to off my chest. thanks for that, i suppose.” you say, standing up as jungwon just watches. part of him wanted to stop you, but even he knew he’d cross some sort of boundary if he did, so he just nodded and stayed put in his seat as you walked off without saying goodbye, or anything along those lines.
okay, he knew deserved that, but it still hurt. maybe you did have part of his heart still. it definitely wasn’t love, but a reminder of what he had done to you, and it was a cut that would leave a scar on him for the rest of his life.

typical you, fallen off your skateboard once again. sungho at this point had only gone to care for you, while yes you impressed him with your tricks and your cute skating style, he was always wary you would hurt yourself in some way. which leads you to now, sitting on a bench as he knelt down to patch up a piece of your skin that was cut open a little deeper than your normal mess ups.
“okay, don't move. this will hurt a bit.” sungho coaches as he cleans up the wound, causing a hiss to escape you from the stinging pain. “ow ow ow!!” you groan through clenched teeth as sungho apologizes and hurries his process. after a bit, he wraps your leg up with gauze, and looks up at you. “you feel okay now?” he asked as you nod, with a small smile.
“never better! what would i do without my sungho!” you say with that cheerful tone if yours, and for some reason the subtle possession you proposed made sungho’s heart skip a beat, more than he would like to admit. “uh- you’d probably be.. dead, in a ditch somewhere? i don't know, come on lets go home.” he says quickly as he stands up, looking down to his side as he attempts to help you up while hiding his flushed cheeks.

“y/n! are you coming to my competition tonight?” riwoo asked with a certain excitement in his voice you don’t hear often. “i invited a lot of other people too!” he continues. “that's a dumb question, of course i will! front and center to support you, riwoo!” you say as you ruffled up his hair a bit.
just as you promised, there you were front and center as riwoo performed with his group. he glances around for his other friends, some family, but he cant find anyone else. but knowing that you of all people kept your promise and came to see him, made him feel like he was still on top of the world.
after he finished, his group exited to the side, meeting you with excitement. “riwoo! you did amazing out there! oh my god, i loved the part where you-“ you stop mid sentence as riwoo basically wrapped himself around you, which you returned. “riwoo? everything okay? do you need water?” you ask, but he shakes his head. “no no, just wanted to hold you for a second.” he says breathlessly before pulling back, were his eyes always so full of admiration for you before?

it was almost 7:00 pm when jaehyun called you while you were the middle of a game. you paused to answer, and resumed to keep playing. “hi jae! bro i have to tell you about today, so-“ you pause when you hear a faint sniffle from his side, pausing your game again. “jaehyun?”
he sniffles again, clearing his throat. “sorry. but, can you come over? i need to take my mind off things.” he asks weakly, you had never seen jaehyun break like this. you shut your pc down immediately and throw on the closest pair of shoes. “i’ll be right there okay? i’ll get you your favorite snacks and foods and we can just watch movies, good?” you ask, as he agrees and then hangs up the phone.
the thought of you rushing to his side eased his mind, wiping his dried tears. he looked down at himself and changes out of the clothes he was crying in, wanting to feel fresh when you came. this usually isn't a big deal, so he wondered why it was now. thinking about you, a smile spread across his face involuntarily, yet it was something he didn't mind happening more often.

taesan never had a good rep in highschool, but for some reason, you haven't detached from his hip since you both met in your junior years. but, you brought him a wave of peace he didn't know he could find in a person. going into college, his reputation followed, you both were from a small town anyway, he should’ve expected that.
but you continued to find him after every class you had, you brought him lunch because you know he isn't going to eat on his own, and you never changed or turned your back on him. he didn't know how to show you his appreciation, but he hoped you felt it. you didn't know it, but taesan would be lost without you.
it wasn't until you said a certain something that he realized he loved you, it felt like his missing piece, or sign. “i’ll never leave you, taesan, no matter what happens.” he wasn't sure why his heart started pounding, but all he knew was if there was someone he wanted by his side forever, it was you.

you and leehan had met through a project for an elective class, which so happened to be astronomy. you had been a space lover since you were in elementary school, you even used to say your dream was to go into space! as a senior in high school, you were pretty quiet, and so was leehan, so starting conversation was awkward.
“so.. what do you want to do the presentation on?” leehan asked as he spins his pencil between his fingers, his eyes glancing between you and his laptop screen. “well, there's a lot of different things! but i think the life cycle of stars is pretty interesting to think about.” you say as you start setting up the design of the presentation.
“really? like how?” he pushes, turning his body to face you a bit. “well, did you know the hotter a star is, it turns blue! and the cooler it is, it turns red! which is sort of weird since to us we are so used to the opposite, you know?” you continue, looking at leehan, just to see him staring at you with wide eyes, because no, he didn't know that. but the fact you answered this so quick, no stumbles or stutters, his heart leaped out of his chest. while you aren't a fish nerd like he is, you're a nerd for something that makes you who you are, and he admires that.

you saw woonhak from down the hall, his shoulders were slumped, and his feet dragged across the floor. something was off, and you sped up your pace to catch up. “hak!” you shout and make him turn around, were his eyes red? puffy even? “hak? what's wrong?” you ask as he just shakes his head and hides his face. “nothing. dont worry.” he answers almost stern, nothing like his usual self.
“woonhak, i know you, what's wrong?” you ask again, pulling him to the quieter part of the hall. “its stupid.” he argues, which makes you cross your arms. “clearly it isn't if you're so affected by it, talk to me.” you usher once again, and woonhak slowly spills how a teammate was talking behind his back about his skills in basketball. this was something you didn't let slide at all, because who were they to talk?
the next day, woonhak walked up to you with a brighter version of himself from yesterday, which made you smile, before you acted normal. “did you have something to do with this?” he asked, handing you a paper with a sincere apology letter. “maybe. did it work?” you ask as you close your locker and turn to him, as he nods slowly. “thank you y/n, nobody has ever cared that much before.” he says almost astonished. “well i do, and it’s going to stay that way.” you say, your words final. woonhak swore his eyes turned into hearts right then and there.

it slipped between your fingertips. your perfect life, perfect boyfriend, perfect everything, just gone. in a blink, in a snap, like you didnt break your back for this relationship. like it wasnt you being the glue this relationship needed, because jungwon had given up ages ago.
you noticed it when his usual habits disappeared. no coffee made, he never sent you random ‘i love you’ messages anymore, no random updates about his day. hell, he never even hugged you anymore, let alone kiss you. it was like you went from a relationship to being roommates overnight, you dont get it.
it started after your 1 year celebration. he had taken you out to your favorite steakhouse, even took you both on a night walk along the prettiest beach he could find, hand in hand as the salty wind blew against both of your skin. you both were smiles, giggles and kisses like you always had been. he looked at you like you held the world in the palm of your hand.
well, like you were someone in his life who did.
you dont know what changed after that. suddenly he wasnt talking to you as much or staying the night as often. you thought he just needed space, which was fine! you understood everyone has their limits, but it was different when he started to tell you he just wasnt feeling up to being, “lovey dovey” as he called it.
you’d hug him from behind, “not now.” he’d say as he shrugged you off.
he’d leave for the night, you attempt to kiss his cheek goodbye and he dodged by picking up his bag from the ground. “bye.” he said, just turning and leaving without an ‘i love you’ or even a hug.
but what really solidified the fact he changed was the way he spoke about your relationship to others.
“i mean, we’re fine i guess. nothing exciting.” he said to his members, who all just nodded along, not bothering to question. everyone had their bumps in the road right?
but that wasn’t it and you know it.
one night after he came home from a long practice, his muscles screamed for rest as he lugged himself into the apartment. you sat at the couch, coddled up in a blanket with a mug of tea, watching a movie.
“hey baby, long day?” you ask, your voice was as sweet as it has ever been, which made jungwon’s heart clench a slight bit. “mhm.” was his only response as he staggers to the bedroom. you make no effort to move until a few minutes later, putting down your mug and gently padding over to the bedroom.
you were met with a shirtless jungwon, his back to you as you lean against the doorframe. “are you hungry?” you ask softly, making him turn to you as he puts a lounging shirt on. “very, uh.. did you make food?” he asked, almost hesitant. “no, but tell me what you want, and i’ll do it for you.” something about your request makes jungwon wince internally. “hm… i just want miyeok guk, please.” he says, watching you nod and walk away.
he sits on the edge of your bed, sighing and scratching the back of his neck. his phone lights up next to him, and for the first time in a while, he smiles a little bit, picking it up. meanwhile you start in the kitchen on his stew he requested, moving around your own kitchen almost as if it was foreign to you.
he comes out of the bedroom once he smells the stew almost finished. you glance at him, and with just a second of eye contact, you see he seems a bit more refreshed. you serve him a bowl and set it down as he sits, and you decide to test your luck. an arm wraps gently around his shoulder as you lean in to kiss his temple. he feels your lips ghost his skin as he then dodges it like it burned him. “y/n i… not right now.” he whispered, making you pull back with a defeated nod.
he shrugs your arm off like he doesnt know you, like he isnt sitting in your apartment, eating what you made for him at his ask. you just walk past him, starting to tidy up, nothing but the low volume of his phone on tiktok between you both.
to you, the air feels almost taunting, suffocating in a way.
to jungwon, the air just feels empty, but he doesnt bother to fill it.
you finally turn around and lean against the counter, taking in a deep inhale. “jungwon.” you say, making him pause mid spoonful of stew, looking at you, silently questioning you. “what’s going on with us recently?” you ask, the words almost catching in your throat.
he raises his eyebrow, almost as if hes playing innocent. “what do you mean? what are you talking about?” he straightens up, about to keep asking questions before his phone vibrates and he glances at it. the smile that spread across his face again was enough to tip you over.
“who is that?” you ask again, your eyes falling onto his phone as he looks up at you. “oh, nobody.” he states, clearing his throat. “you never listen to me, jungwon. what’s wrong with us? you havent kissed me in weeks, and i cant even remember the last time you actually spent time with me. what’s going on?” you keep going, your voice slightly raised with annoyance, maybe anger. you step closer and jungwon shields his phone from you.
your eyes squint, looking at his protective stance. “jungwon.” you push, his eyes darting everywhere but yours in shame. he gulps, his spoon clinking against the bowl. “it’s.. my ex. remember uh..” he trails off, the lump in his throat growing.
your body froze, your hands shaking with anger. “…that ex?” you say, your voice now sounding defeated. he just nods, eyes stuck to the table.
of course it was, you could never compete with her, why did you even try? said ex was jungwon’s first love, you remember him telling you all about her when you guys were talking about your love lives, and he swore he was over her. you should’ve pinned that down when he told you he could talk about her for hours. it should’ve been wraps then and there.
“y/n?” his voice snapped you out of the trance your mind left you in. he was standing in front of you now, his hand brushing against your forearm, but you flinched like he was a stranger, clearing your throat and walking around the island.
“why is she texting you?” you ask as you start to clean up the bowl and utensils he used, back turned to him as you spoke. “she just wanted to catch up, like old times. nothing more than that, i promise.” he pleads, like he knows exactly what you are thinking, the story you are putting into your own head. “what is ‘old times’ in this context, jungwon?” you ask again, and he hesitates this time. “just.. hang outs. getting lunch, going to the mall..” he trails off, because now he can hear exactly how it sounds to you.
“right, and all those times you had practice late? had to raincheck our dates for work? how much of that was true?” your hands pause mid rinse of the dishes, your voice starting to tremble as you did your best to hold it in. “i did have late practices! y/n, just because im tired doesn’t mean i dont love you, that’s not fair.” he says as he starts to round the island towards you, but stops knowing that youll step back again.
“but you dont love me as much as you do her, because you still do, dont you?” the words felt like poison leaving your mouth, and his own went dry. “if you were so tired, jungwon, you wouldnt have put this much effort into seeing her. she wouldnt be making you smile that hard when i can barely get you to kiss me anymore.” you say as you finally turn to face him. your face was flushed with anger, and embarrassment for letting yourself even believe you had the advantage against her. your eyes were watery, already dried tears tracks stained your face in the light, and your hands were trembling so much you had to fist them to keep them still.
jungwon took your look in, and only then did he realize what he was throwing away. his shoulders slumped, and his hands came up to rub his face a bit with a deep sigh. that gave you everything you needed to know alone. “jungwon..” you start, his attention drifting back to you slowly. “please just go.” your voice drops to barely above a whisper.
his body suddenly feels too heavy, like he cant move his own limbs. “wait wait y/n, slow down-“ he starts, but you just shake your head. “no, jungwon. i’m tired, i’m done. i cant compete with her, and i’m done trying. you know what you want and it doesnt reside with me anymore.”
the words hang heavy in the air, and now you’re both suffocating in it. your eyes pierce through him, and he feels the lump in his throat only grow. he takes a few steps back when he realizes you arent backing down on this decision. “i’m—“ he starts, before you turn around and walk away into your room, closing the door. “—sorry.” he whispered to himself, though he couldn’t tell if that was for you or him. you hear his faint footsteps carry to the door, then it open and close, and only then did you let your body fail on you. you collapsed onto your bed with rage and sadness coursing through you, your sobs sounding heartbreaking to the next door neighbors who could probably hear you.
jungwon walked away, each step heavier than the last, as he rethinks everything he caused all because he didnt think twice. the state he left you in broke his heart, it really did, but you weren’t going to let him fix it. not after you pulled twice your weight all while he let it rot around you both.

mornings with seunghan always start slow.
not because either of you are tired, but because he refuses to let go of you long enough for either of you to actually get up.
today is no different; your alarm goes off, you groan, and before you can even reach over to turn it off, he snakes an arm around your waist and pulls you firmly back into his chest.
“five more minutes,” he mumbles into your shoulder, voice thick with sleep.
“you said that ten minutes ago,” you say, though you don’t exactly try very hard to escape.
his grip tightens, warm and solid. “yeah, but i mean it this time.”
you sigh dramatically, reaching behind you to pat his cheek. “you always mean it.”
“because you’re comfy,” he argues, as if that’s the highest scientific truth.
eventually he loosens his hold just enough for you to roll over and face him. his hair is a mess—like, a work of modern art level disaster—and his eyes are still puffy. he looks unfairly adorable.
he blinks at you. “hi.”
you kiss his nose. “hi.”
seunghan immediately hides his face in your chest. “don’t do that right when i wake up.”
“why not?”
“because you know it kills me.”
you laugh softly and slip your fingers into his hair, brushing it back the way he likes. he relaxes instantly, melting against you like you’re his personal charge station.
“okay,” you say, “we actually need to get up.”
he looks up with the most betrayed expression known to man. “why would you say something insane like that?”
“because you have practice. and i have class.”
he groans loudly, flopping onto his back and throwing an arm over his eyes like he’s in a tragic drama. “i vote we skip both.”
“we can’t just skip life.”
he peeks at you. “we could. for, like, a day.”
you’re so tempted it’s ridiculous. but someone in this relationship has to be responsible, and spoiler: it’s usually not him.
“how about,” you offer, “we actually get up now, and tonight we make ramen and watch that dumb dating show you pretend to hate?”
“i don’t pretend.”
“you literally screamed at the tv last episode.”
“they were making horrible choices,” he says defensively.
you raise a brow. “so you love it.”
he scrunches his nose. “i tolerate it because you love it.”
you lean over and kiss him properly this time. slow, gentle, warm, the kind of kiss that says thank you without needing actual words. he kisses back immediately, hand sliding up the curve of your waist, thumb brushing soft circles against your skin.
when you pull away, he’s smiling in that tiny, shy way that still gets you every time.
“fine,” he says quietly. “let’s get up.”
you both eventually drag yourselves out of bed, bumping hips while brushing your teeth, stealing little glances while packing your bags, him tugging on your sleeve every time you walk too far away. he ties his hoodie drawstrings around your finger and laughs when you flick his forehead.
on your way out the door, he pauses and tilts your face toward him.
“hurry home today,” he murmurs.
“why?” you tease.
he presses a soft kiss to your jaw. “because i like you best when you’re here.”
you pretend to roll your eyes, but he sees the smile you’re trying to hide—and he grins, satisfied, before lacing your fingers together and walking you out like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
