we got a full house.
the kids are calling them "stone fruits." they start off small—think cherries. then they're hooked and they need a quick fix, they get peaches, maybe some nectarines. it's all they can think about. before you know it, they're trying the really hard stuff—apricots, plums. once they taste a mango there's no going back.
This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.

New story
Currently working on another short horror story for my anthology, here is a sneak peak:
It happened during a particular pop song, something sanguine and fast, released during my teenage years. It might have been my level of intoxication, it might have been the particular note in the air, but whatever the case, there was a moment that I looked up and my eyes landed on the beams embedded in the unfinished basement ceiling. Terror crashed down on me. The space above my head seemed to expand and mushroom, falling upwards into an enormous void. As I stood dumbstruck, the beams became enormous concrete monoliths, barely visible in the darkness. And beyond them, I could see hints of even more massive structures. Huge cyclopean walls, vaulted ceilings miles high, columnar pillars the width of continents, all residing in a total, opaque darkness who’s size dwarfed the empty night sky. From that tiny shadowed crevice in the ceiling, I saw a glimpse of a cosmically titanic structure, and it was bearing down on me.

Doing a final project in my stats class, we have to pick a subject and collect data on it. We need at least 100 data points, and I figured this blog is big enough that a poll on here could get to that pretty easily!
Doing my project on if it’s more likely to be born in certain months :]
I have gotten the OK from my teacher to collect data using a Tumblr poll, btw. I’m also going to have to send her this post as proof of where I got the data from / proof I didn’t just make up the numbers. So. Behave

This moment is so dear to me I want to cry. First of, Grace is so gentle with him? Something something kindness literally saves the world (two worlds, in this case). Also, you just KNOW that Grace is that teacher in whose classroom the kids go to cry when they feel like the whole world has turned against them.
But secondly, "I'm a science human"! Because yeah. None of them is the other's weird alien dog. None of them is the "smart one" (or rather, they both are). They can't do this without each other. They complement each other. They need each other to succeed, there's no other way. That's the whole point! Cooperation! Connection! Working together!
Hope core at its finest.
I love them, your honor.
science has always been political. what gets studied. what doesnt. who gets to do the studying. on and on and on.
scientists on this post: yuuuup 👍
people who aren't scientists: um actually ☝️
