So on a podcast that discussed vomit, feces, the potential neglect of children and pets, Dan telling people to be determined and pursue their dreams no matter how unlikely is where some sort of line was crossed? Simply because Dan is in a place of privilege and it's a bit easier for him to say? I'm sorry I generally respect and often agree with your opinion, but that's the most absurd tumblr-ass reasoning I've seen on this site in a while.
The core of what Dan said is absolutely fine. Perseverance is good. Not giving up is good. Working hard is good. That’s fine advice for everyone, everywhere. But, coming from a straight white guy who, by his own admission, went to college (something that many people, both privileged and not, have to bust their asses just to get into) and didn’t do jack shit while he was there and who, based on the things he publicly talks about, doesn’t seem to care about, well, anything but video games, wrestling, and getting drunk…
It’s insulting to people who are playing life on a harder difficulty than him, to hear him dispense this sort of wisdom without any sensitivity to other people’s experiences. Yeah, he worked to get where he is today. Yeah, we should all work hard to follow our dreams.
But, Dan Ryckert is a public figure, and his audience extends well beyond the people who are like him, other straight white males like himself. He needs to be more thoughtful when he steps in front of a microphone.
You literally admit open racism and sexism in this post. "his advice is fine but because he is a white male fuck him."
