I mean, in some very interesting Technically Correct ways, they didn't actually die? Now, they're very much no longer alive. But the forces involved are such that they didn't get any of the usual cellular processes of death, they simply went from biology to physics in less time than it takes a signal to travel down your optic nerve.
if you go from biology to physics without dying first you don’t go to heaven the uber driver went over this
you know how it is
it's chew on her fin chewsday
Me when I GET YOU
Sous La Glace, Georges Leonnec for La Vie Parisienne, 1926
The caption is a little fuzzy, but I think the meaning is “Has the Parisienne become economic? You see a lot less panties this year!” :D
youre becoming part of this post @18-1-9
This tweet means a lot to me.
It’s probably a really cool and good sign that this post I made in 2014 is going around again, right?
we’re all still broke af
so many articles online 'here is how become support worker,' 'here is how bathe disabled/elderly person,' 'here is what NDIA says you need before you qualify for personal care.'
None on 'so you became disabled in your twenties and it has progressed to the point you need support with personal care to cope with the fatigue and you're nonverbal and autistic. How do you navigate this new dynamic with strangers and communicate important things like wants and consent? And how do you not feel ashamed or embarrassed because you 'don't really need it'?'
(would genuinely like advice or hear other people's experiences if comfortable sharing. can be on anon if want or ask for Radio not to publish ask)
As someone who has had multiple carers over 20 years and more or less verbal abilities, I gradually labelled everything and made lists.
Essentially turning my life into a routine similar to what it would be like to be in an institution but on my terms.
Detailed menus for food (how I want it cooked, salted), grocery list (which meant cutting down and simplifying how I eat and eating repetitive food with emergency meal options).
List of chores and their days: a day to pick up the groceries and put them away, a day she cleans the bedroom, a day she does the floors. once a month collect medicines... All suited to give them lots of time and account for unexpected needs.
Instructions sharpied on the washing machine, labels written on the cupboards and taped above the microwave
My clothes are basic: all machine wash and no iron, can be mixed and matched, my bedsheets can be mixed and matched
I do meds once a week and have a proper weekly pillbox with a list taped to it. I hated accepting this signifier of illness.
My bath days are on days she's not here which is a recent luxury because I used to need help there.
Boundaries
My bedroom is off limits unless it's bedroom day. Weight and romantic life are off limits.
I have not found a way to communicate that I'm not a psychologist in 20 years of this. Carers are often in the process of being broken by the job: they vent (a lot), they get burn out, they find it easier (and make more money) to do any other job.
It hurts the ego every single time you meet a new one and initiate them to your routines. Those stupid house management binders like seen in mormon influencer households actually do streamline your life even if they feel dehumanizing.
A lot of this stuff was really hard. I felt like if a baby could feel shame. My brain screams the R word at me every now and then for not being able to safely cook or lift things, for not being able to explain myself then sitting through agony rather than seem impolite.
The urge to do the chores yourself is massive even after a hundred energy hangovers and injuries. Write those down because you think you don't need it until you notice you haven't taken care of yourself in weeks trying to keep up with other things or you repeatedly get ill.
What did help was treating the carer's job as dignified: them cleaning for me is not degrading, it's their job. Them witnessing me in distress is not degrading, it's their job and they rise to the occasion and feel proud they got to help someone.
Try and remember that you're providing a respectful, safe work environment for people who would otherwise be unseen or mistreated when working in cleaning/catering or in care homes. Holiday gifts and setting up options for their holidays in advance help. Checking in about balancing their work load over the hours they're given is an important use of your limited social time/energy so it feels more like teamwork to them.
It will feel very weird at first but if you're upfront about communication difficulties and needing time to write things out for example, that can help. The big hurdle in time will be getting enough hours allocated (unless you pay for extra under the table) and not losing carers to their agencies being gigantic soul-sucking body-breaking machines.
(this post is more about things you can do to feel more control over your situation and facilitate your carer's work. I can't help much with how to feel about this nor how much polite smalltalk or guidance you can manage. It won't fall into place nor make sense overnight. Grieving a stage of life or loss of abilities can take upto 10 years, adapting happens sooner than mentally adjusting. )
Very detailed & informed much thank you
👏👏👏
So--when I was in my mid-twenties and the Disaster Ex tried to make me kill myself, the local mental hospital didn't have any beds open in the usual ward for attempted suicides.
What they did have was a single spare bed in the small, comfortable, quiet, wildly expensive facility for girls with eating disorders.
They asked each of the young women currently living there if it was acceptable that I might occupy a bed in one of the rooms for a while, just the long weekend while I was waiting for a doctor's evaluation. I hadn't been violent, I had gone with the cops without putting up any fight at all, and I was still and I was small and all those things were sufficient for me to be deemed safe. So up they sent me, to somewhere high in Western Psych, above the smells and sounds of the denser-packed wards, above where the care workers were harried and frustrated, to a gentle space with seven or eight young women in it.
I was five foot three, and I weighed about 115 pounds. I was underweight for my frame, as a fair amount of that weight was martial arts muscle; I would probably have been ten pounds heavier if I were healthy, with the amount of activity I got.
I was at least two inches shorter than pretty much every other young woman there, six or seven inches shorter than one of them, and I had at least thirty pounds on several of them. The tallest was not allowed to walk, she had to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around, because her condition was so advanced that the motion would undo what good her hard work had done.
And over the course of the four or five days I was there, multiple of them came up to me alone to quietly tell me that I had the *perfect* body, and they wished they could be as skinny as I was. That I needed to live, because I was beautiful, and if they were as beautiful as I was, they wouldn't need to be here.
Their eyes were on me all the time, in the hours that I wasn't sleeping. I spent a lot of time sleeping, and we took our meals separately (I not needing to be monitored while I ate, and not having my food weighed), but we spent a fair amount of time sitting around in the little shared living room space, talking about movies and magazines and books we'd loved, talking about our families. I didn't talk about my family; they didn't pry.
They were all so fucking nice.
And I could have broken any one of them over my narrow knee. They each thought they were bigger than I was.
Their brains lied to them, every time they looked at a mirror. Every time they looked down at their own thighs. What they saw was not what I could see. They had bright, beautiful eyes in dark hollows, and I could count their vertebrae, could see their ribs winging when they breathed, could see the motion of every tendon on the backs of their hands.
They weren't celebrities. They weren't being paid to have particular bodies, nor were they deep in the toxic sea of having strangers take photos of them to sell to gossip rags if they stepped out of doors in old jeans. They had families and loved ones who were doing everything that they could to protect them, to uplift them and help them be healthy. They were just everyday people--a nurse, a couple of students, a couple of recent college grads, a young woman who had decided it was time to really get help because she wanted to be a mother--and still they'd been so injured by the neverending fucking deluge of body-image bullshit that they were dying of it.
That was in 2009. Things are worse now. I think about them still. I hope that they're all right.
And in case some people aren't aware: anorexia is deadly. There is a point at which your body looses the ability to digest food and you are no longer capable of improving.
Ahh, it’s back
i have disproportionately strong feelings about this.
widowtracer kinda funny in that it was uber popular yuri that lowkey got nuked by one of the parties being confirmed gay and getting a canon slop gf in the background
Hello friends we need to talk about this twitter account:
You might know him from a thread where he was getting wowed by free appetisers in a Mexican restaurant.
Firstly: He is doing a bit pretending to be a wandering samurai. It's a joke and his posts are all made up. This is very obvious if you actually look at his account and website:
He does purport to be Japanese but based on some of the other content he posts there's reason to believe he's British.
Which brings me to my second point: his Samurai content is interspersed with posts like this:
And this:
He is not cute or funny. Stop platforming him.
The chips and salsa thread went viral in June and his website seems to have gone live in July. This confirms what I suspected which is that said website with it's explicit disclaimers was made in response to the big viral hit.
Consequently, back when he first blew up it was potentially a bit harder to figure out that his stories are fictional. That said, the New York Times worked it out so I'm comfortable accusing outlets who ran the story describing him as a Japanese world cup tourist of legitimately terrible journalism.
of course, the best part of any character's corruption arc is their cool new outfit
i thought this was a post saying bart's new outfit (one tophat) was a result of his new capitalist corruption
out of my way. i need to claim my free milhouse shield
fun fact: this mobile game (Monopoly Go) has the second (or third) highest budget of any video game. As of last year, it's made its budget back 5 times over.
It's only beaten in cost by Star Citizen (a crowd-funded money pit that's been in progress for 14 years) and possibly GTA VI, which some estimate might cost up to two billion USD to develop.
im sorry i just checked wikipedia and it's SPENT ONE FUCKING BILLION IN MARKETING SPENDING??? IT GENERATED 5 BILLION DOLLARS. WHO IS PLAYING THIS GAME
If there are ever time travelers from the Regency period they will be so confused by our robot butler discourse.

Imagine being one of the parents for the kids in the Magic School Bus class. Getting those field trip permission slips home every single night.
Like what, another one? Doesn’t she teach? This just says Inside a Dog
Ms Frizzle sending you one (1) permission slip at the beginning of the year to cover all the field trips and you’re like huh that’s a little unusual but I guess it’s efficient at least and then you open it and it’s written like This

The reconstructed face of the “Cheddar Man” (c. 7,000 BCE) compared to his living descendant, Adrian Targett
The Cheddar Man is a Mesolithic skeleton that was recovered from England’s Cheddar Gorge in 1903. At around 9,000 years old, the Cheddar Man is the oldest complete skeleton ever discovered in the UK, and has long been hailed as the “first Briton.” DNA analysis on the Cheddar man from 2018 indicated that he was lactose intolerant, had light-colored eyes, dark brown or black hair, and had a dark to black skin tone. Although the discovery of the Cheddar Man’s dark skin tone was surprising for both scientists and the public alike, it corresponds with recent research suggesting that genes linked to lighter skin only began to spread about 8,500 years ago - approximately 32,000 years later than what was previously believed.
In addition to the development on his skin tone, the Cheddar Man surprised scientists in 1997 when DNA analysis revealed that he had a living descendant - a retired history teacher named Adrian Targett. Targett and the Cheddar man share the same mtDNA, which is passed down from mother to daughter. In other words, they share a common maternal ancestor. What is even more remarkable is that Targett lives in Cheddar, only a half mile away where his 9,000-year-old ancestor was discovered.
Targett was not invited to the initial reveal of his ancestor’s new facial reconstruction, but he has since seen it and has commented on the family resemblance. “I do feel a bit more multicultural now,” he once joked in an interview “And I can definitely see that there is a family resemblance. That nose is similar to mine. And we have both got those blue eyes.”
The development of the Cheddar Man’s skin tone has generated resistance, especially among far-right and white supremacist circles. Targett, however, is unbothered by it, stating that it is “marvelous what scientists can reconstruct once they sequence the DNA.” When asked if he thought whether the findings affected the way people think about race, Targett responded: “Yes, I do think it’s significant. Not many people in Cheddar mind it. But the lesson is that we’re all immigrants, whether you’ve been in a place for 10 minutes or 9,000 years. We’ve all come from somewhere.”
