pan people: you are not responsible for other people misrepresenting pan.
i know the anxiety when a show or celeb or article poorly explains pan, because i know it’s going to be used to justify panphobia.
as if we were involved in what they said. as if misrepresentation doesn’t hurt us. as if we aren’t always explaining what pan means, only for panphobes to claim otherwise in order to justify their hate.
but other people’s ignorance has nothing to do with you. it’s not your fault. you didn’t feed them misinformation. they don’t speak for you and their ignorance does not represent your identity.
the definition of pan is very easily found, if people don’t look for it or talk to us before speaking on it, that doesn’t fall on our shoulders.
misinformation is panphobia. misrepresentation is panphobia. people using those to justify their hate is panphobia.
and you are not responsible for panphobia.
2021 Pride Month Celebration [11/30 LGBT+ Characters] Klaus Hargreeves “Ok, well, sorry. I’m just gonna go murder mom really quick. I’ll be right back.”
whenever i see a blog i like and they're bi, i feel automatically unsafe until i figure out if they're panphobic or not - and it's scary because a good 80% are. and if they do not ever mention pan people (like if you search their blog) it makes me even more anxious. i need to clearly see they are pan supporters before i follow. someone said i'm an asshole for this despite my bi friends saying it was good online self care
i'm sorry you worry so much about this. but you're definitely not alone. i don't think i know any queer person who doesn't do this, regardless of the identities in question. there is so much queerphobia in queer spaces online that not checking to see if someone supports you or others, especially when you personally have had a lot of bad experiences with certain groups, before following or interacting is a bit odd to me. and it is good online self care!
honestly, i hate when people say it's biphobic for pan people to check if a bi person is panphobic before following or interacting. i don't know what anyone else's experience is, but the majority of panphobia i personally see and have experienced comes from bi people or is in the name of bi. do i think all or most bi people are panphobic because of that? no. but enough of them have been in my experience that it's understandable if i check for that. i mean, "battleaxe bi" is a fucking thing. give me a fucking break.
since some of y’all want to act like pansexuals are some sort of debate topic I decided to make a nice info graphic about it
[image description: an info-graphic on top of a golden background where the first bubble says “do you support pansexuals?” then it points down to two answers bubbles which are “yes” and “no.” if “yes” is chosen then you follow the next arrow to a bubble that says “great job” and if “no” is chosen then you follow an arrow down to a bubble that says “please re-evaluate your harmful ideology.”]
Long post warning lol
Just saw a post that made some good points about bi/pan discourse but also included some absolute bs takes that I wanted to talk about because I see them a lot:
[Image description: a screenshot of a tumblr post reading And to see celebrities like Miley Cyrus straight up saying “I hate the word bisexual because it’s putting me in a box.” Kehlani saying “I’m not bi, I” it cuts off the rest of this quote]
Hmmm okay. That’s not a take I love but i can see it being irritating to have someone feel that way about a label you feel connected to but let’s see what else they had to say
[image description: a screenshot of a tumblr post saying seeing all these pride merchandise for unnecessary “mga” ids like polysexual/omnisexual. Inaccurately redefining]
Hmmmmmm....interesting take. Maybe we should take a look at the bisexual maifesto y’all always tell us to read.
[image descriptions: two screenshots from the bisexual manifesto
The first image is a full page with the title Anything That Moves printed on the top left of the page.
The second image is a close up of part of the page from the previous image. It shows one paragraph that has been highlighted in light blue and purple. The part highlighted in light blue reads “Do not expect a clear cut definition of bisexuality to jump out from the pages. We bisexuals tend to define bisexuality in ways that are unique to our own individuality”.
The part highlighted in purple reads “There are as many definitions of bisexuality as there are bisexuals. Many of us choose not to label ourselves as anything at all, and find the word bisexual to be inadequate and too limiting.”]
This is not to say I agree with the idea that it’s acceptable to say that people who don’t identify with a term or find that term “inadequate” are still that thing, cause that’s incredibly disrespectful of their experiences and not how identity works. But it’s likely phrased like that because bisexual was the only term at the time that people knew to describe attraction to multiple/all genders, but it’s not anymore. And I just find it really interesting when bi people who have an issue with the pan lable, or the way pan people talk about ourselves, try to say “you don’t read the history! You’re ignoring the manifesto” while ignoring the manifesto themselves. The manifesto states that people who are attracted to multiple/all genders may find the term bisexual too limiting and choose not to use it. But apparently that is actually just internalized biphobia nowadays /s.
Similarly, I find the “we define bisexuality uniquely” part of the manifesto very interesting considering how hard so many people are going to say that all people who prefer other terms are “redefining bisexuality” as if the manifesto doesn’t say there is no clear cut definition. If labels can change and language can evolve overtime why are so many arguments against identities other than bisexual “you’re ignoring the history/definition/defining it wrong/we don’t need other labels”? Maybe you don’t need other labels.
I get that there are a lot of shitty definitions of bi and pan floating around but that isn’t the fault of pan people exclusively. How many bisexuals over the decades have defined their sexuality as “attraction to men and women”? Approximately a metric fuckton. Even if that’s not the only definition of bisexuality, you cannot blame only people outside of your community for that definition being spread.
And most people who panphobes are mad at for using terms like pan/omni would probably just call ourselves queer or say we don’t want labels otherwise. Like this shit always reeks of “all afab nonbinary people are actually just gnc women who don’t understand women’s history and have internalized misogyny” style logic and I’m so fucking sick of this conversation getting bogged down by it. It’s possible to talk about the parts of these terms history that have contributed to biphobia without being a hypocrite in order to shit talk pan/mspec people for not identifying the way you want us to.

This is beautifully written 👏
Well Isn't That Interesting...
So I wanted to look up the bisexual manifesto since so many panphobic bi people keep telling me to go read it. I figured "you know what? Why not. Let's see what they think is so important that I need to read this".
Turns out, panphobes, I think you need to reread your own manifesto.
This is a picture of the full manifesto, as published in the original magazine. I'd like to highlight a few things.
This is the part that everyone always references and tells pans we need to read.
But, you forgot the next paragraph:
'Many of us choose not to label ourselves at all, and find the word bisexual to be inadequate and too limiting.'
The Bisexual Manifesto itself supports the existence of other mspec identities.
That is all.
as a pansexual who has been saying since the beginning that the bisexual manifesto does not say or imply anything that supports or validates panphobia, i love winning
Just gonna...put this here.
There’s no reason to fight about this. Bisexuality is valid, so is pansexuality and omnisexuality. They are just different terms to underline different traits of bisexuality and everyone is free to choose their own label or no label at all. No one else has the right to decide which description fits you best or makes you feel best. 💗💛💙
My pansexuality isn't "a trait of bisexuality". I'm not bisexual. I'm pansexual, and that is a whole, independent identity that is valid and good in it's own right.

Okay, Klaus. You can do this. You fought in Vietnam. You survived a family of seven.
Being gay is natural? Okay.
You have three islands. Divide them into groups of one. The straight island, the gay island, and the lesbian island. The straight island is going to reproduce and keep going strong for millions of generations to come. The gay and lesbian islands will both wipe out in not even one century. This isn’t just about religion or morals, it’s just simple common sense. Being gay is unnatural, and not just because God said so, but because you yourself wouldn’t even be born without a REAL natural man and woman. And no, there is no such thing as a lesbian bone marrow “thing” to have children. That’s a biased fact that came from a lesbian scientist who has false opinions. If it’s not a real penis or vagina, then it’s fucking false and you’re just opinionated by dumb facts. I’m done here. Read over what I said and if you still think that being gay is normal and natural, then I hope you achieve some common sense one day. Bye
Where is this gay island located.. asking for a friend
I just have SO MANY questions. Why were we all separated onto different islands? Did the government sanction this? If so, why? Why didn’t we revolt against this tyrannical government? Where are these islands? How were they chosen? Are the continents of the world abandoned? What kind of resources are on each island? Are they the same or different? Does each island have a right to form its own government or does the government that segregated us still rule? If so, what island do they rule from and how do they communicate with the other two islands? If they can communicate with the other two islands, can all three islands communicate with each other? If the straight people keep reproducing, won’t their island become overpopulated and their resources depleted? Islands only have so much space right? Do straight people stop having gay kids? Isn’t it a fact that, to date, straight people are the largest manufacturers of gay kids? If a gay kid is born on straight island, do they get sent to their appropriate island? Wouldn’t that aid in the re-population of gay and lesbian island? What about people who are attracted to more than one gender? Are they just lost at sea, floating aimlessly? Is the ocean full of listless pansexuals, floating nowhere? Or are they trapped in some sort of purgatory because they don’t fit on any one island? Are there trees on lesbian island? Is it conceivable that if there were, a large group of lesbians could build a boat? Have you ever seen lesbians around timber? If they built a boat, could they travel to gay island? How far apart are the islands? If they could travel to gay island, would they be able to collect semen, return to lesbian island, and repopulate the island? Would they be able to send some of those children to gay island? Do trans people exist in this world? If so, wouldn’t they be able to aid in repopulation? If the lesbians decided to declare war on the heterosexuals, would they be able to reach their island? On the way to heterosexual island, could the lesbians pick up the gays and scoop the floating bisexuals from the sea? If so, would they all be able to go and attack heterosexual island together, wiping out its people’s, stealing its children and taking all its resources? Does this fantasy world get you off at night? Please write back soon!
Speaking up from the pansexual archipelago: I too have these questions
Checking in from bisexual bay: The boats are nearly complete and are equipped with a special invisibility function. We attack at dawn
Fuck the questions, lemme on that boat, I’m coming with you
*random ace just floating away into the sky like a balloon*
I am so here for an asexual sky nation. We live in floating cities and master the wind currents. Newly minted ace youths are sent up to us in baskets suspended under hot air balloons. We breed giant birds to bear us through the skies, or else build ourselves wings and gliders to fly in their midst. The only land we know are the tallest mountain peaks and the world is a bright blue gem spreading out beneath us.
(And we will of course be providing air support for the impending attack on Straight Island)
OP’s nasty-ass post got turned into a goddamn sci-fi dystopian adventure and I’m so here for it.
oh my god Bisexual Buccaneers from Both-Ways Bay is both a porn tile and my new life goals
i’m an asexual homoromantic does this make me our young heroine torn between worlds
You spend part of your time on lesbian island, learning the stories, and traditions, and part of your time in the vast floating asexual cities, training with your eagle so that you can one day become one of the chosen few: the messengers, who carry letters and passengers between islands, jumping the heterosexual blockades. When you enter this select group, you’re assigned the job of collecting reports from spies pretending to heterosexual on straight island, flying in at the dead of night, risking discovery to collect vital intelligence. You fall in love with a pansexual girl who’s chosen to hide her orientation so she can aid the Resistance. At the climax of the novel, you swoop down from above on your giant eagle to rescue your lady love from a frenzied mob. As straight island burns in the background, you share a chaste kiss and cuddle while discussing the possibility of a mountain-top pansexual outpost.
IT CAME BACK AROUND AND IT GOT BETTER!
Saw this in a OneTopic-video, had to find it. I volunteer as a pansexual air pirate, where do I sign up?
