Your Ex-Mormon Holiday
Tell me how you're spending the holidays as an Ex-Mormon!
Priorities... You're getting them wrong.
For the record
The church’s new stance on homosexual couples is not fucking okay. I am so, so sick about it and I can’t even tell anyone that I know because they don’t know that I’m not a member.
One of the articles I was reading defending it literally said. “My daughter’s husband chose to be gay rather than staying with his family.” I get it, I get it. It would really suck to have your husband or son in law come out as gay. That would be a fucking hard adjustment for the kids. But this paints it so black and white, so much as though he was making a frivolous life decision. You think he didn’t suffer with the decision? Think he wasn’t torn between those choices?
Think he doesn’t feel guilty now?
Of fucking course he did. Every emotion possible must have gone through his head. But you’ll never get his side of the story. You’ll never see the pain of living the life that was chosen for him, suffering in the lie and self hatred. You’ll never see the love between him and his boyfriend. Never see the moments when they are teaching the kids together to love themselves despite what any church says.
And it makes me sick because now these kids who are stuck in this fucking cult are going to associate their gay parents with not being able to get the most important thing you can have in a cult - acceptance and conformance. So that will make those kids alienate those parents. Pushing them deeper into the religion. And they’ll be taught that their parents are sinning, evil, monsters for choosing ‘satan’s lifestyle.’
God I’m so annoyed.
I metaphorically pray that this will open some people’s eyes. I pray that those kids can see the love their moms or dads have and understand that a god who teaches that that cannot possibly be real love, or that it must be wrong, is not a god they want to follow.
Fuck you guys.
Flowchart #Facebook #repost. In response to the #Mormon #Church’s ban on children from parents of #sameSex couples. #familiesAreForever? #lol. #exmormon view.
Idea: Church leaders/PR waited all day to see what arguments members used on social media to defend the terrible handbook changes, and then they staged an interview to tell members exactly what they wanted to hear.
Except that the kids of murderers, rapists, and adulterers can get baptized. The kids of same-sex couples and polygamists can't. There is no love here. There is no excuse for treating people like scum.
Highest of all the states in sex abuse. And these are just reported cases...
“It is the duty of a woman to be obedient to her husband, and unless she is, I would not give a damn for all her queenly right and authority…”
- MoMo Apostle Heber C. Kimball
In the temple women promise to obey their husbands. They are also ordained to be queens and priestesses... To their husbands. A woman in the church is nothing without a husband. Especially a non-obedient one.
Sure, Kimball isn't alive today and no Mormon leader (at least the ones at the top) would dare utter such harsh words in public now. But the temple wording still reflects this view, as does the proclamation to the family. From personal experience, there are plenty of men in the church that prescribe to this authoritative sexism.
Covert misogyny just means that it's not as apparent to outsiders (and even most in the LDS church) that women in the church are being oppressed and abused.
I am absolutely sickened and disgusted by the Mormon church corporation right now. These new policies will only drive a wedge further between faithful members and their LGBTQ family members. BUT IT’S ALL ABOUT FAMILY, RIGHT?
Note that murderers and child molesters (I have both in my extended LDS family - neither were excommunicated, the known child molester became a bishop) aren’t considered apostates, nor are the children of such barred from joining the church. Apostates instead are those in legal same-sex marriages. The children of those in same-sex relationships are also targeted, who will have to disavow a parent if they want to join the church. The hypocrisy here is astounding. If I wasn’t already a resigned Mormon, these new policies would have me FLEEING for the door.
If my gay and bisexual children ever marry, I doubt my parents or any of my other Mormon family will attend. They certainly wouldn’t want to risk their temple recommends and their place in Mormon heaven.

Can we say organizational abuse? Do not let anyone or any organization treat you like this... Please. Just leave - for the children. Trying to hold back some nasty words, but this kind of treatment is really really not okay. Ever. Children deserve better. Humans deserve better.
A Texas pastor talks to an Ex-Mormon couple about their deconversion and decision to be atheist. They talk about their values for their family and dispel some stereotypes. This came after their family was bullied and harassed by several people for asking a local principal not to lead kids in prayer or religious events at school in his official capacity. The backlash was brutal, but this kind pastor and their congregation decided to practice what they preach and extend fellowship to them. I had the privilege of attending. It got heated a bit at the end, but most were very kind and respectful, and there were good conversations afterwards even about the hard questions. Now if only we could all get along like this!
Ex-Mormon missionary work: This attorney is helping people go straight to confidential records with their resignations. No chat with the local leadership, no 30 day waiting period. Just your name taken off the rolls in record time so you're not another tally mark on the membership numbers of the church that isn't really growing all that fast. Plus, there's the extra perk of no home or visiting teachers bugging you, or the clerk hounding you to set a date for tithing settlement! Or if you're one of the lucky ones like me, no more bishopric trying to bring you in to a disciplinary counsel... oh I mean counsel of love for apostasy!
I realize I criticize the church on several points on this blog. This speech by Oaks is one that I won't criticize because it's one of the more balanced, reasonable things I've seen from the church in a while. And his talking points iterate something that I care very strongly about: separation of church and state. Policy that reflects this sentiment helps those of us with different beliefs to live together peacefully with mutual respect. And at the end of the day, that's what matters. More of this please!

Secrecy, an elaborate plan, millions of dollars, and election fraud. All to promote homophobia. This is the true church.
