I’m really tired of seeing people broken up into labels of absolutes.

People are not just “good” or “bad”.

People are not a list of labels. 

People are complex, situations are complex.

I know, that makes it a lot harder when you want to just write off everything someone’s ever done as bad – but that’s not how people actually are, and it would do everyone good to stop pretending they are.

I am tired of hearing about the fear people have in putting themselves out there. And it is a scary thing! Putting yourself out there means subjecting yourself to people who want a really good reason to tear you down, who will jump at the first chance to feel “good” by labeling someone else as “bad”.

I reject this. I reject the idea that there should be fear in speaking up and talking about experiences and trying to reach an understanding of a situation.

I’m unhappy to see people spitefully urging others to cut off ties with their friends under the guise of “well, that person’s just inherently bad, so if you talk to them you’re bad too.” That is fucked up. You definitely have the right to let the friend know you don’t want to hear about whoever troubles you, but you do not at all have the right to decide who their friends should be. This includes guilt trips.

Anyway, just try to be more aware of others. Everyone else is a person like you. They might not have the same experiences as you. They might not understand how their words are harmful, or how what they’re doing is wrong. They certainly won’t if you never tell them.

Most people are trying to be good, but they’re going to mess it up sometimes. Try to keep that in mind. Even when people do really fucked up shit, sometimes they are trying to do good. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” and all that.

Nothing gets solved, no growth happens when you put people into a box from which you’ll never let them escape.

Yes, you absolutely must be careful about people who have tendencies and patterns that are harmful to you. Sometimes people try to overcome those patterns and they fail, and you have to distance yourself from them: that is the sad reality of life. Sometimes though, they can overcome it. But they certainly won’t if the first thing you do is write them off after a fuck up. 

Be sincere. Use your best judgment.

Pushing the idea that people are morally/ethically binary and permanently on one side or the other doesn’t allow room for growth. OP is correct. From a pure logic standpoint, this is indeed hypocrisy. Specifically it’s a double standard.

The logic of “whitewashing” is Black -> White = Racist. And yeah, I can see it. It’s making an unnecessary change to something that someone put time and effort into designing purely for the sake of the editor’s personal preferences.

The problem is, and this is what OP is pointing out. This is not being treated as a two-way street. For some reason, everything that I described “whitewashing” as entailing doesn’t apply in the other direction. Somehow, “blackwashing” is not “an unnecessary change to something that someone put time and effort into designing purely for the sake of the editor’s personal preferences.”

By their own definitions of discriminatory behavior, they are engaging in that very behavior. But it’s acceptable because… a white person is the target? That just… doesn’t make sense to me.

If you are going to take a stand that a specific action has discriminatory connotations, then it stands to reason that all flavors of that action, regardless of the identity of the target or any reasons as to why it’s being done, is equally discriminatory.

Video games in Destiny

A friend of mine on discord talked about Cayde-6 filling his vanguard terminal with old video games from the golden age. And while it was an awesome take it ignited this whole idea of old video games and ROMs and how they fit into the world of destiny.

Like, video games are a huge part of our culture, and (to me at least), are pieces of art, so it makes sense to assume that they would reach even greater heights during the golden age. And it’s not a stretch to believe that, post-collapse, Cryptarchs who specialise in recovering art from the lost ages of humanity would revere video games as well, and have whole troves of old ROMs of great games.

But it gets even better than that when you think about how this interacts with other races. We already know that the Cabal have a battlenet that they play games on to distract themselves before battle. Imagine the Cabal gaining a new respect for humanity as their dataminers find old war games like first person shooters and RTS games - while the legionaries enjoy shoot-em-ups, the Psions deeply enjoy the tactical edge of games like Starcraft, and often play multiple games at once with each other.

And then you have the Eliksni - given that their golden age was said to be even better than humanity’s, it’s not hard to imagine that they would have valued games - play is a universal thing, after all.

And then, post-whirlwind, you have Eliksni coming across old caches of human video games. And, given that we know that the Eliksni have a knack for technology and programming, it’s easy to imagine them figuring out how to make their own ROM hacks of these games which are then passed down from generation to generation.

But can you imagine this all culminating with humanity allying with the Cabal and Eliksni? Caiatl commenting to Zavala on humanity’s history of war games, and concluding that it was only natural that a race with such an affinity for combat that they turned it to sport would prove themselves equal to the Cabal.

House Light sheltering in the Botza district with their meagre possessions, including a few ROM hacks of old earth games. After the Vex attack, the Vanguard makes sure that at least one fireteam is patrolling the Eliksni quarter at all times. Which leads to a Hunter spotting a young Eliksni playing what looks suspiciously like Mario kart.

One thing leads to another and it turns out that the Eliskni have a whole trove of ROM-hacked old earth games that have deviated further and further from their source material until they’re their own thing. The Cryptarchs absolutely wet themselves as they recognise several ROMs previously thought lost to time in House Light’s stash and marvel at the intricacy of Eliksni code, and Mithrax is delighted to learn that Human and Eliskni culture has intertwined in yet another way and they have another connection between them.

It goes without saying that Eido has been playing these games since she was a hatchling and wipes the floor with everyone, Guardian or otherwise, foolish enough to challenge her to Ronaldinho Soccer 64.

There's one thing that has urked me about the whole Lakshmi-2 situation, an I'm sure other's have caught it as well. And, no, I'm not referring Lakshmi-2 being a probable bigot, or Savathun's influencing her, it's something that, if anyone gave it a few seconds of thought, would result in people calling her a fucking idiot.

What I'm referring to is her, and by extension, future war cult's use of vex prediction technology... in the last city... that is currently under the affects of a massive vex simulation...

Sure, that might not effect the use of that technology, but we dont know that. Thus, any use of it would, and should be suspect.

I’ve idly noticed that all of Shaw Han’s armor is/was player obtainable. Same goes for the color scheme.

What really stands out to me though is the Leg Armor. Those are the Strides of the Great Hunt.

Those things are only available from the Last Wish Raid. I wonder if that means Shaw in-canon was one of the six Guardians who went after Riven alongside the Player Guardian.

Also, since we're on this topic, people always say Shaw didn't "earn" his Last Wish strides because he has an idle line where he says that he would like to visit the Dreaming City some time, as he's never been there. So if he's never been to the Dreaming City, how was he able to do Last Wish?

And in my opinion, riding up to the Last Wish only is not exactly the same as "visiting" the Dreaming City. He could be referring to the fact that he hasn't been anywhere outside of the raid location which is mostly inside of a singular building and various trips to the ascendant plane. I think it's perfectly possible to have done Last Wish and still think you haven't really been to the Dreaming City because honestly, Dreaming City is so much more than just the locations of the raid, most of which are interiors.

Just wanted to add that because people have been commenting on that point all the time whenever his leg armour is mentioned. And calling him names because of course they do.
