I remembered several dreams yesterday which is odd...
Well the first third had one of my friends and it was us just going to the mall not one I recognized. We were going to go into a pop up makeup store but we entered what was a closed clothing store which we werenât supposed to be in, everything was mostly sold out, but we took some decorative baskets baskets (5). And we where making laps trying to avoid a worker who was popping up and following us and showing us stuff with a perma smile and then I was left alone.
The next one had specifically an Asian guy who was doing that foreign exchange student thing where your family hosts them. But weirdly enough I initiate a relationship with him. Specifically remembered something about a first kiss on both our parts. And then in was dreaming of being on my phone and going to his Instagram where he had posted pictures of us and little stuff I had got him or what heâs gotten me. But then there was a new insta where he didnât follow anyone and posted a red envelope, a coin (silver, and the raised parts were colored red and blue) and red string (with a gold piece tied to the end) that I gave him.
The last dream I was prom dress shopping with my mom. I tried on my dress and it was gorgeous, my mom found a necklace that was dirty and she cleaned it up and handed it to me it was super beautiful, I could probably draw out the design, sliver and clear flat diamonds like white ones. And a woman starts coming up to me and saying that the necklace doesnât have real diamonds so sheâll buy it. I remember saying no thank you and coloring in the diamonds yellow and she left me alone. I remember my mom having a lot of money but disorganized and she started to hand me the 50s, 10 of them, when we heard over the loud speakers that they were calling my family urgently as something was wrong with my father. And my mom handing me the necklace and the dress to pay for it and Iâm stuck in line crying tears because Iâm looking at them and my old Spanish teacher runs up to them and says youâre the ideal picture of family crying while your husband is dead. Iâm up next to pay, I specifically have to pay $526 I donât have that much only the $500 and then he stares at me and then says well Iâll pay the $26 but you have to come back and show me you dancing with your father or Iâm doing to take everything back. And I say my fathers dead and I wake up.
The more I see pictures of girls in like dresses or skirts or in Tv shows and doing dance routines the more I realize how perfect their bodies look. And Iâm jealous. I have scars in some areas and stretch marks in others and a bit of discoloration...
Wooo
I got into various colleges including Boston College, NYIT, Quinnipiac, Clarkson & some state schools
Iâm waiting until the 28 to hear from Harvard, Yale and NYU,, but Iâm not too concerned I got into Boston college which is the one I care about the most
cats are so fake like theyâre theoretically related to apex predators and yet they weigh 8 pounds, sleep 20 hours a day, and scream if you feed them half an hour later than usual
I deeply sympathize because I also like to sleep an unreasonable amount and yell when hungry.
incidentally, you are also an apex predator
apex predators are over-hyped, weâre all just tired and whiny.
Reblog if you, too, are tired and whiny.

Sorry for being late. I made two ways of graphical explanation of Eulerâs formula. This explanation is the same as wikipedia. Another explanation post is here.
Fig 1 The N-th power of a (complex number) is located as shown, and all triangles are similarity. because the absolute values are multiplied and the arguments are added to yield the polar form of the product. the points are on a logarithmic spiral.
Fig 2 Put a=(1+i θ/N), and take a limit Nââ then the logarithmic spiral approaches the unit circle. The argument of a is equal to arctan(θ/N). This argument is approximately equal to θ/N in case of N>>1.
Fig 3 The N-th power of a is located as shown.
Fig 4 To sum up, take the limit Nââ then a^N approaches cos(θ)+i sin(θ).
Fig 5 Remember the definition of e^z, We obtain Eulerâs formula, e^i θ=cos(θ)+i sin(θ).
I split a bowl of rice and spent like 15 minutes crying about it on my bedroom floor.
And at work I got so sad I started crying for no reason for 20 minutes. But before that I was really angry at my sister
Momâs Work
Reboot to support this hardworking single mom
trained video game designers who get paid thousands of dollars for making video game: some things are way too difficult to create with this engine, you have to understand that we are very limited in our possibilities for this game
modders with a pirated version of photoshop who work full jobs outside the video game industry: hey guys I made 100 hairstyles and re-textures of 750 outfits during my lunch time. Also this female character now has proper armor and can be romanced by a female protag. I was kinda busy last night but here are 20 new complexions you can download for free
hi, resident games art student here! i am. bad at articulating stuff but let me explain why there arenât 100 hairstyles and 750 re-textures made by game devs! there are a LOT of misconception about the game industry, most prominently maybe that there is this Huge Capitalist Entity⢠behind them when in fact there is a team of hardworking devs. These people spend SO much time and work on these games, theyâre the last ones who want to release a shitty product. Iâm sure that at this point everybody has heard about how stressful making games is but let me tell you exactly HOW bad it is. Because this industry truly treats their people like crap. Like they literally made up a new term for overtime, âcrunchâ, so they wouldnât need to pay people extra. Let me add a quote from Blood, Sweat and Pixels, a book that follows the development stories of popular games such as Diablo 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, Stardew Valley, etc. âThe developerâs team had to spend the next few months âcrunchingâ, working eighty- to one-hundred hour weeks (âŚ) Some of them slept in the office so they wouldnât have to waste time commutingâ
So yeah. Itâs not really an issue of âdo we have the skill?â but more âdo we add another hairstyle or do we fix these game breaking bugs?â. When you literally have to decide which bugs you have to fix in time and which ones you canât there simply isnât enough time for adding more cosmetics. All games are released unfinished because it is simply not feasible to fix everything. Game development is brutal. Our lecturer told us that people in the industry usually work there for no longer than 8 years simply because it is so demanding and soul sucking. So why is crunch a thing, you may ask.
âI think it remains to be seen whether crunching actually works. Obviously a lot of literature says it doesnât. (But) I think everybody finds a time in their development careers where youâre going âI donât see what other options we haveââ (Aaryn Flynn) One huge part of that is because the games industry doesnât have something which almost every other industry has: unions. This has recently gotten more attention with the whole voice actor thing, but the simple fact is that as of now there are no unions for people working on games, something big publishers want to keep that way. Working in games still has kind of a ârockstarâ image, itâs a small industry and there are thousands of eager people who would take any kind of job. As a result there are no real actions that get taken against overworking as everyone is ultimately seen as replaceable. Not only that but individual studios are largely at the mercy of their publishers. Letâs look at Ensamble as an example. Instead of making the original IP the studio wanted to create they were told by Microsoft to make a game within the Halo franchise. Only to be told that after the release of what was now âHalo Warsâ the studio would be shut down. So while they might not add tons of additional content in form of cosmetics a TON of the work goes into the less glamorous systems like inventory, pathfinding or 3D modelling hundreds of assets only 10% of players are going to look at in detail. And donât make me go into the topic of 3D modelling because THAT is a whole other rant bc it is difficult AS FUCK and incredibly underappreciated. And lastly, it is a job. a not very well paid one so you can shove that âthousand of dollarsâ up your ass.
Last time reblog. Because THE COMMENTARY is important.
I legit love discussing games on here but seeing posts like this getting THOUSANDS OF NOTES despite its fallacies, misconceptions and outright ignorance of how our industry works is beyond frustrating.
as someone whoâs done both mods and actual game dev⌠game dev is so much harder you have no idea.
The gaming industry makes more money than movies or music. Itâs employees are also the last people profiting from that boom.
In less than 10 years, all these white bitches blackfacing, brownfacing, yellowfacing and otherwise taking EVERY element they can find from Black women, Latinas and Asian women to create a âbaddieâ persona, will stop spray tanning or whatever the fuck they did to their skin, theyâll leave the lip fillers behind, the overlining the lips trend behind too, stop frying their spaghetti hair with perms, theyâll take off the braids (and wonder where all their hair went), stop faking monolids, stop paying to get their nails done like that, stop wearing jewelry typical to lower class Black and Latina women that is so trendy on white women during this decade, theyâll stop getting their hips and asses enhancedâŚ
Then theyâll go back to their very white suburban house, theyâll say that now theyâre âclassyâ again, theyâll mock and denigrate whatever amazing styles Black, Asian and Latina women are creating and rocking. Theyâll go marry some also white dude, and start voting Republican like nothing ever happened.
I really wanna lose weight so Iâm soft and thin but Iâm afraid of the markings that are gonna come with it and like I want to lose 30 pounds and I donât know I feel sad
6 zoo myths that arent true
Most behaviors that you see keepers demonstrate at the zoo or aquarium are natural behaviors that the animals do in the wild. When the animals do them, the keepers give them a treat and pair it with a gesture or a word, so that they associate them, and eventually the word or gesture is enough to elicit the behavior because the animal knows that thereâs a reward. But hereâs the thing: most of those behaviors are encouraged because they help veterinarians and keepers do health checks.
Yeah, its cute when they nose boop the stick, but also keepers need to check their vision and depth perception and mobility. Sea lions are so cute when they wave! But vets and keepers need to check under those flippers to make sure that theyâre healthy and that they donât have any restrictions on their motion or cuts on their skin. Why do they ask animals to jump? Again, to make sure that theyâre healthy, and also because its fun and animals LOVE to move around and jump and have fun, its mentally stimulating.Â
This is the most important thing I will ever reblog and anyone who is still ignorant enough to think zoos are awful can fuck off my blog. Zoos are necessary. If you think otherwise please unfollow me because I donât want you here.
This is super important for people to see. I have worked at a zoo and I can not tell you how many times Iâve had to defend the zoo for the good they do. People need to learn that zoos are actually helping save endangered species.
Remember: Sea World is not a zoo and doesnât really care about animals unless they can make a profit. Fuck Sea World.
Alternatively, Busch Gardens does care for their animals.
Reblogging for the Sea World comment, since we wrote about it recently. Thereâs a difference between the abuses of Sea World and a normal zoo. A zoo is there for preservation and research, and not exploitation.
How Can I Justify This Deeply Unethical Purchase?
Why Did They Come?
TOO FUCKINâ phenomenal to NOT reblog!!!!
Tips for skim reading PEER-REVIEW ARTICLES, from your friendly public health scientist
0. Types of peer-review articles:
Research articles: I have a hypothesis, I did my own research to reject or accept the hypothesis
(Systematic) reviews: I read a whole of bunch of existing articles and wrote a summary of their findings
Meta analysis: I took data from a whole bunch of exisiting research to reject or accept a hypothesis (more data=more participants=more likely to represent real life=closer to the truth)
Commentary/correspondence: I have a strong opinion on something, usually to call for more attention in a research area (always topical)
Case studies/series: I found something interesting that maybe significant to a larger group of people but I donât have enough data to prove it, especially if itâs time sensitive
1. What am I looking for? (no, I donât mean the topic)
Depending on the outcome of your need, you may be only focusing on either the Methods section, the Results section, or Discussion, or Conclusion. For example, are you looking for how to measure PTSD (methods) or what is the rate of PTSD in a community (results)
Introduction/background: what is the topic and what questions will this paper answer (based on existing literature)
Methods: how I did my research (the measurement tools, type statistical analysis, who I did my research on)
Results: What I found (percentages, rates, odd ratios, relative risks, confidence intervals, regressions, etc.)
Discussion: Explanation for what Iâve found and how it compares to existing research (more existing literature which may or may not support the results)
Conclusion: Â What direction is my research and what should the next step be (the gap in research, limitations in the research)
1a. Narrow your scope of research
Have a simple inclusion or exclusion criteria
Is there time frame to when the research has to be published by (e.g. 2000-2018)?
Is it about women only, men only, children under 5 only, excludes people with A and B?
Specific language only?
At least a certain sample size (e.g. must have 400 participants)?
controlled or not controlled environment (e.g. fieldwork or lab-based)?
Locations specific (e.g. countries, districts, continents, counties)?
2. Read the goddamn abstract
If it describes what you are looking for, download the pdf. This ensures what you are looking for is in the article so you donât waste your time reading the whole damn thing. The abstract should describe everything in the first bulletpoint. DO NOT RELY ON TITLE
If the abstract doesnât give you a taste of what you want, skip it, itâs probably not worth reading
2a. Skip the intro/background
If you know what your topic is, skip this section, it will not give you any new information. If you are unfamiliar with the topic, read 1 or 3 introductions and skip it for the rest of the articles
3. Control + F
Sometimes abstracts can be deceiving, if you have key words or criterias that you must meet e.g. women who have PTSD, then please look up the word âwomenâ to make sure actual research was done about women and it was not just mentioned in the introduction section. Donât think you have to read the entire paper
4. Refernce and take notes
Youâre not going to remember what you read where so take notes! Open an excel or word doc and have one column be the title and the other one be the notes in bulletpoint form.Â
Fnd a reference software e.g. refworks, mendeley so you donât have to type each reference by hand. they are usually free (if you are in school)
SAVE THE GODDAMN PDF. Donât lose it. If you canât download a PDF, PRINT â> save as PDF.Â
Donât have the license or money to buy the article, try emailing the author, use any school/college/university library computer, email a nerdy friend!
5. Where to get started
Search Engines: Pubmed, Google scholar, Medline
Journal servers: they tend to have recommendations like âarticles you might enjoy,â click on those
References: bibliographies and references of articles youâve read are alway a good source
Search for authors in your interested field or of an article you found useful
A list of random tips I learned during college:
If you are in a new city with no friends, go out alone. It might seem weird but you will get to spend quality time with yourself + possibly meet some people. Just stay safe, be where there are other people, avoid sketchy neighborhoods and donât go out too late!
Carry your college ID everywhere and donât be afraid to ask if a store has college discounts!
Take. Notes. Of. Everything. You might think âeh Iâll remember thisâ. You wonât. Write it down.
Replace your morning coffee for green tea, it is less likely to give you an energy crash later in the day, and take coffee as a pick me up later in the afternoon
Take a break from studying every hour or so, but donât use your phone/computer. Go out for a walk, stretch, drink some water, shower. It will help you focus better
SKINCARE TIP: steam your face by boiling some water and putting some sage in it, then putting your face above the pot with a towel covering your head and the pot. It will help open up your pores and clean them
Things to always have around: coconut oil (for hair care, removing makeup, dry skin, cooking..) and baking soda (removing stains, face peeling, good for your gums..)
MEAL PREP!! Or at least shop for the following week so you are less likely to eat out, and eat crap!
Try new things, you might not be great at them, but you also might find something you are passionate about.
MEDITATE. If you donât know how, download a guided meditation app (like Headspace). Meditation is great for reducing stress and boosting productivity. Also a great thing to do on your study break.
Donât stare at any screens before bed, it WILL make you fall asleep harder and fuck up the quality of your sleep. Instead try reading, meditating, doing skincare, journaling.
Speaking of journaling, get a bullet journal. Write down your thoughts, plan your week, your month, write to do lists and shopping lists, and just use it as a creative outlet. You donât have to be a great artist, it doesnât matter, just let it all out on the paper.
