This Suede show was even more special: it was a Pretenders/Suede co-headline show titled 'Brandaid', a fundraiser for long-time crew member and associate John Brandham. As it was a show with the Pretenders, we were all hoping we'd get to hear Suede do their cover of 'Brass in Pocket', which they'd recorded oh so many years ago for the 'War Child' charity album. Chrissie did her original version with her band and totally rocked it - she was fierce. When Suede came on, about 3/4 of the way through their set, Brett gave an ode to Chrissie and the band, noting how he'd been watching their set from the side of the stage (it's true! I'd seen it), bopping away to some of the finest pop songs of the past few decades. He said they may as well pay tribute and he came up towards my side of the stage to sing this one. It was dead sexy to see and hear him singing these lines live: "Gonna use my arms Gonna use my legs Gonna use my style Gonna use my sidestep Gonna use my fingers Gonna use my, my, my imagination..." Oh my.

A few weeks ago, I flew to Murcia early one morning after the Lloyd Cole the night before. I went to the south of Spain to what I thought would be Suede's last European show of the year (the Brandaid benefit in London has since been announced). For just over 24 hours, I ingested some vitamin D through the beautiful Spanish sun and saw Suede...in a bullring!

As is the way in Spain, this show was extraordinarily late. As the headliners, Suede came on after midnight! All the UK residents were exhausted! But we hung on and clung on and still felt every emotion thrown at us by our favourite band.

"We'll be the wild ones, running with the dogs today..."

I'm always dancing, jumping, singing, grabbing so much at Suede shows that settling down long enough to record a song is rather challenging. I'm sure I've filmed 'Sabotage' before but there is always something special to capture that's different. Here, see Brett crawling on his hands and knees from the edge of the stage towards his microphone at the start of the song before his vocals come in. When they do, he's on his stomach, face down! One strong diaphragm.

The stage at the Kelvingrove Bandstand was low and very close to the barrier so we were easily in touching distance of Brett and also heard Mat's stomping perfectly.

Last week Friday, on a very rainy and consequently very muddy day in rural Buckinghamshire, I sat and stood all day at Pennfest waiting for the headliners, my beloved Suede, to play in the evening. I knew they would focus mainly on their well known songs, their chart toppers, rather than album tracks and b-sides, but I also knew they would be just as intense and ferocious.

This song came on, a breather in between throwing myself around, so I decided to film it. What I didn't expect was that this would be the first song in which Brett came off the stage *and* he came to me! I had to stop filming so I could squeeze him and sing along with him and everyone so the video isn't the entire song. Check out in particular those backdrops, which I'd never seen before. Have you? All the other songs had artwork I recognised. These photographs were *really* erotic and a nice unknown surprise.

A beautiful moment I captured here. I don't know if 'Blinded' is a new song that's not been recorded yet, or if it's been recorded as part of 'The Blue Hour' sessions and could technically be described as a 'b-side'. I've not seen available anywhere. I'm so glad Brett sang this to us as it was on a set list in Manchester and he didn't. We get these sort of rare gems and previews in Suede's own shows - how precious they are.

Then the guitar morphs into 'The Wild One's and as soon as he starts singing, the audience does too in recognition and Brett smiles hugely. He knows this is his best and we all hold this song dear to our hearts too. We all sing along, reaching the high notes of the chorus when Brett's tired voice (last night of the tour) cannot. I found this singalong really beautiful and not at all annoying, which I may have at other times or with other songs. It felt like a real connection, slow and tender, with energy and love flowing clearly between Brett and the audience.

There was some love for Head Music-era songs last night and I videoed this one. I've liked this song but didn't think much of it. Last night, hearing the lyrics so clearly, I was really moved at its sense of loss and loneliness - definitely big feelings I can relate to as of late. Lyrics that rang out like, "Tears on a pillow, eyes on the phone / you pour all the love that you keep inside into a song.." really hit me.

There was time for plenty of slow Brett moves in this song too. At @ 1.50 I love the way he raises his hands above his head, clasping his hands together before bringing the mic down to his mouth (it reminds me of a yoga move). Then @ 3.20, I love how, from his kneeling position, he throws his front nearly to the stage. So fit, so athletic, so flexible.

The quiet, foreboding riff begins and I think it's 'Pantomime Horse' (it's not). Oh, *wow*, it's 'Breakdown'. Musically, it starts so quietly but that's how opuses do. It builds and builds and I was worried about Brett's voice. This was the second last show of a 2-week tour. When Richard's guitar goes into overdrive and Brett has to wail, 'Does your love only come...?', he struggles to hit those soaring high notes but it doesn't matter. The song still is so powerful and crushing, we are there with him.

I never video songs when Brett comes to the audience. I want to *engage* with Brett in those moments, not hold a bleedin' camera in his face. I recorded this acoustic version of 'Everything Will Flow', thinking Brett would stay on the stage with Richard, as he has done with all the other acoustic songs I've seen him do. But oh no! Off the stage he came and onto the barrier to reach out to us. Gah! Well, here he is, beautiful Brett and his big beautiful voice that needs little amplification. Come to me!

'As One', the absolute BEAST of a song that opens up 'The Blue Hour' and the song that Suede have begun every show with since they released this album. The demonic choir/orchestra preamble of a song they play before they come on. The lights go down. The fog kicks in. The chanting begins. The band - all but Brett - walks out in darkness. Everyone goes insane. Neil takes his place. Watch him count down until Richard can come in with his squalling guitar. Soon after, our lord and saviour Brett emerges from the shadows to screams of adoration. The photo pit is also going crazy and Brett is working it, giving them stunning photographs like no other. Suede have really created a masterpiece with this song.

Here's a song that Suede haven't played live too often. I think it was the first time they played it on this April UK tour too. It's 'Mistress' and here it's just Brett and Richard, but that means you can hear these delicate words even better. It was sweaty at Albert Hall and we all needed to chill out for a bit and catch our breath. We did that, while ruminating over past lovers. Listen...

The last show of Suede's tour, 2018. Devastating. But oh did they go out with such energy.

Here I filmed another of Brett's beautiful acoustic numbers that he treats us to every night. Even though it was a Sunday night we got 'Saturday Night'. Sung without amplification and with only a bit of acoustic guitar, this song sounds even more tender and romantic than it does with the full band. It got me thinking how I'd love someone to have this feeling for me.

After Brett's solo number that he's done every night on an acoustic guitar and with unamplified vocals (though the song changes every night and it is magical), Brett handed over lead guitar duties to the one and only Richard to start this heartbreaking song off. Neil added some keys to it too. I know a lot of audience members were extremely moved during this beautiful, bittersweet song and many were in tears. I was certainly fighting back my own tears. This song gave pause to the ferocity that had overtaken much of the show and reminded us how Suede are equally good at the quiet, tender moments.

I'm gutted that my phone ran out of memory before the whole song finished as it finished with a flourish, with the entire band coming back on and Richard switching to electric guitar. It was truly momentous and oh so moving in full.

I was running out of songs to video at Suede shows in which I'm not throwing myself around like a woman possessed! So I decided to capture the dark and creepy 'Roadkill', which Brett performs on his own with some keyboard accompaniment by Neil. I like when Brett does his sort of hypnotic, almost middle Eastern dancing and chanting bit in this spoken word piece. The line about 'unskilled workers' always stands out to me.

Suede have been beginning every show with the ominous and Blue Hour opener 'As One'. They perform it from behind this 'gauze' and their shadows slowly appear after they walk out onto the stage, assume their positions and the lights hit. Before they do this, a very strange version of the song is played - all dramatic strings and children's choir. But I love this foreboding song and the gauze, lighting and shadows that ensue just add to the dark atmosphere. Suede are the ultimate performers.

The show at La Cigale was utterly spellbinding. Besides this magnificent song, my highlights were 'My Insatiable One', 'Cold Hands' off the Blue Hour and an acoustic version of 'The Big Time'. Wow.

So, like last night in Brussels, I filmed another of Brett's acoustic songs. I really love these wonderful, special gems though. I never saw Brett when he was a solo artist and I feel these are little glimpses into that. Sure, he says that he's not 'the guitar player' in Suede but his talent knows no boundaries.

I love that he performed a Blue Hour song acoustically tonight. This song is very laden with keyboards on the album. It contains this really intriguing line that I find so sad and beautiful - 'Of all the wild places I love, you are the most desolate'....
