Why must my feelings be "rational"? Is it not enough to sit quietly in my hawaiian shirt, deranged?
LMAO the attorney general took most of the supplies that profiteer hoarded because price gouging in times of emergency is illegal. the rest he donated to a church after heavy criticism and the authorities getting involved. i dont think he realizes that allowing it to be taken doesn't let him off the hook for gauging in thr first place though

Joe Biden’s boosters want to sell him as the safe bet against Donald Trump. But running a man in clear cognitive decline against a mean-spirited bully who relishes the exploitation of weakness is anything but safe — it would all but hand the election to Trump.
After a year of stages crowded with flash-in-the-pan phenoms and forgettable faces, the race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination is about to yield a totally new kind of debate: Joe Biden versus Bernie Sanders, mano a mano.
That’s bad news for Biden, and his team knows it. We know they know it because they won’t accept Sanders’s offer for a one-on-one debate about health care policy; because they’re lobbying to make the debate format less demanding; because Biden is refusing invitations for extended interviews on cable news; and because he was recently spotted handing out leaflets to reporters after an event instead of talking to them directly — clearly a workaround designed by his staff to prevent him from putting his foot in his mouth.
His staff are right to be worried. The elder statesman is prone to lapses in coherence, to put it politely. The signs have been there for months: when Biden asked supporters to “go to Joe 30330 and help me in this fight” in the August debate, the Guardian called it “one of the most cryptic gaffes of his career.” But it was only the beginning.
In his bid for the nomination, Biden has forgotten Barack Obama’s name repeatedly, proclaimed he was running for Senate, declared that over 150 million people have been killed by gun violence since 2007, confused his wife with his sister, confused Angela Merkel with Margaret Thatcher, and confused Theresa May twice with Margaret Thatcher. He’s issued an endless litany of baffling and embarrassing statements, including, “Tomorrow’s Super Thursday,” “We choose truth over facts,” “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids,” “Why, why, why, why, why, why, why?” and “We hold these truths to be self-evident: all men and women created by the, go, you know the, you know the thing.”
Biden’s allies have attempted to explain all this away by pointing out that Biden has long struggled with a stutter. It’s true that Biden stuttered as a child, but it is not true that he’s always labored to verbally convey his ideas. For decades Biden’s speech was lucid, convincing, at times even charismatic. In 2012, he was lavished with praise for verbally eviscerating Paul Ryan during a vice presidential debate. Less than ten years ago he was confident, composed, funny, and alert when he spoke in public. Nowadays, his campaign makes a concerted effort to limit his exposure to prevent the likelihood of verbal slip-ups, confessing that they tend to happen “late in the day.”
You know what I’m BEYOND sick of? The shifting of blame for problems caused or perpetuated by a system onto the individuals affected by it.
It’s EVERYWHERE and it drives me CRAZY. Because it’s all purposeful and yet people still spread it like wildfire for a sense of smug superiority.
Classic example is the environment. Like, all this focus on stuff like “don’t use straws!” and “take one less flight a year!” that all mean nothing in comparison to the literal tons of waste that the companies running those campaigns are dumping into the sea every year.
But it also extends so far into cultural stuff. ESPECIALLY against Americans. And this isn’t a post about defending America or something. I live here. I know that a lot of people here are awful and we have a lot of problems with racism, classism, etc. But the issue is that people start equivocating these problems with BEING American. As if there’s a fundamental difference in the DNA of the average american that causes them. Which not only unfairly shifts the blame away from the real issues of the system in this country, but it also creates a false sense that it’s contained to this country because of that fundamental difference.
Like, there’s all this stuff floating around about subbed films and the fact that there are so few in America and almost every one of them has that stupid meme like “Americans are not intelligent, to put it lightly” or whatever. Try to see a foreign film in America. Try to find a theater who offers you a movie with subtitles. I dare you. You can’t. They’re not offered. You can find them at film festivals and tiny artsy theaters in bigger cities. They are not available to the general public. And the few times foreign film does become mainstream enough to get to general theaters, THEY DO WELL.
Songs in other languages will top the charts. Movies in other languages will rake in big ticket sales. And yet we ALWAYS see a crappy “american” version that is largely agreed upon to not be as good spit out and the access to the original severely limited.
The problem is not and has NEVER BEEN that the american audience won’t accept non-”Americanized” media. The problem has ALWAYS been that the enormous super corporations of the American media don’t want to let a single dime go to any other media makers! Corporations that never want to take risks! So they find something that’s already popular, wrestle the rights from the original makers, churn out a soulless “americanized” copy filled with big names, and make sure that’s the only one available anymore. Try to go to a walmart or other general place to buy movies and buy subbed versions of anime. Try to find the Swedish version of “The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo”. or the UK version of “Being Human”. If it was an issue of “Americans won’t read subs”, why would we also get so many american versions of UK shows? It’s not as though you can say that Americans won’t watch anything from the UK. Dr.Who alone is HUGE. They just want to make an easy buck!
“Why won’t americans ride trains?? It must be because they REFUSE to because they won’t accept anything slower than a plane!” or maybe because we don’t have a train system because it would take money from the plane and oil industries. “Why do americans not talk about news from other countries???They must truly only care about themselves!” Or maybe because our media severely restricts any news about other countries. “Why do americans not watch subbed films? They must be too stupid to read! Or too ignorant to accept other cultures!” or maybe because our media industry is so bloated and controls so much of what we can consume that the option is almost never given to us.
And yeah, it makes me mad because it’s insulting, of course. It makes me mad because it shifts focus away from the actual issues and makes it less likely to have those actual issues addressed and fixed. But it’s also dangerous! Because it creates this idea that the issues in our country are caused by us just being american and americans are so dumb and racist and yada yada. Which leads people to believe that it’s not something that can happen other places. “we’re not dumb like americans so X could never happen here!” except it can and it probably already is.
Like, that one tweet about how 38% of americans think you can get the corona virus from the corona beer (which of course was a total made up statistic that was entirely untrue) and that that explains why Trump was elected. Because we’re all so dumb. That’s so dangerous! Trump’s rise to power was the result of a LONG building presence of white supremacy left unchecked in our country. It’s the culmination of an issue that’s been gaining traction for a long time. And one that’s gaining even more momentum in places like the UK and Germany since his election. The moment you shift the view of the issue to “well it’s only because americans are so stupid”, you stop believing it could happen where you are even when it already is.
Nothing is gained by pointing the finger at the individual person except the self centered idea that you’re better than that person. Because YOU can read subtitles. Because YOU wouldn’t refuse to ride a train. Because YOU didn’t use a straw. Meanwhile the same amount of turtles are choking to death in fishing nets discarded by the industry funding the “no straws” campaigns to distract attention away from the fact that they need more regulation.
But good for you, I guess.
All of this, and I’d like to add that an oft-forgotten factor in all of this is that large swaths of our population exist in rural, geographically isolated communities. It’s nigh impossible in these areas to access any form of media that isn’t mainstream. Even if you wanted to see that foreign film, traveling for an hour and a half to go see it in theaters isn’t practical.
I think people tend to forget how it wasn’t very long ago that the majority of our population lived in small, remote communities, and that continues to have a huge impact on our culture.
Who could have possibly foreseen that organizing the entire service economy around low-wage workers without sick leave or reliable access to a doctor might someday backfire.
LITERALLY!!! the media is acting like coronavirus is a death sentence when 98% of people who get infected recover perfectly fine...
the danger is not that it's particularly deadly, it's about as deadly as the flu (not very). the danger is that it's super infectious, and CAN (like the flu) be deadly to people with compromised immune systems (the elderly, young children, people with health conditions like aids). stop fearmongering, and just wash your hands to protect those who are vulnerable / to be safe if you are vulnerable
Sure wish I was seeing this one circulating more than the other ones without the information literacy component.
So here I am, circulating it.
“Cars” reboot in the style of the movie “Cats” and all the cars are just humans walking around naked but with a metallic sheen and they have wheels at the end of their limbs. Their faces are human faces but with car headlights instead of eyes.

What the expect & how to prepare
In 2016, there was major flaws with in-person voting in states like Arizona. This election is exactly the same, with states like Texas and California having people in line waiting past midnight LONG after polls were supposed to close. This is blatant voter suppression and is meant to discourage you from voting. If you don’t have mail-in ballot in your state MAKE SURE to prepare for the worst: wear comfortable clothes, bring water, bring snacks, and get ready for whatever fuckery they might try to pull so bring an extra ID.
If you work on the day of your primary or caucus HERE IS A WEBSITE that allows you to check your state’s laws on time-off voting. This will tell you info on the following:
How long your job is required to give you?
What exceptions there might be?
Whether or not it’s paid time off.
If you have to give advance notice.
Do you need to show your employer proof of voting?
How to volunteer
You can also phone bank, text bank, or canvas for Bernie. Even if you’re in a state that already voted you can still do all these things! You ARE allowed to canvas out of your home state. Check your area, there are events happening everywhere or you can host your own. ALSO!!! volunteer as a poll worker if you can
AND!! if you’re fluent in multiple languages you can really help to get the vote out in communities that often get overlooked by campaigns.
