Okay but like actually this is the most thoughtful gift IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
It might seem to make more sense to give Ron the precious family heirloom (remember that Mollyās brother Fabian died in the First Wizarding War; Molly has held onto his watch out of sentimentality since then). But Ron is the sixth son in his (canonically financially-struggling) family. Heās been forced into hand-me-downs his whole life. If heād gotten the watch with a dent in the back, he wouldnāt have appreciated it; heād only have seen the flaw. And if his mum bought Harry a new watch insteadĀ of getting Ron one, Ron would have resented that.Ā A new watch wasĀ a worthwhile expense to get Ron a rare taste of the luxury and individual attention he has always craved.
Harry, though. Harry has money; Harry has new things. What Harry does not have is family. Harry is an orphan. Other than one photo album and the invisibility cloak, he doesnāt have anything that came with family history attached. What Molly does here is give him that; she makes him part of the family, symbolically, by giving him an emotionally significant if physically imperfect item. She gives him love in a tangible form.
This is why I will fight anyone who insults the Weasleys.
Fucking fight me.
So I scribbled it. š¤·

Wherever I go, Iām gonna be better because of you. Youāll be in my heart. I promise Iām going to be the man that you thought I could be. I promise. Youāve made me so happy.

Quotes from the Harry Potter Books [28/50]
Can you imagine what it must have been like growing up for George and Fred. Notice how I said George and Fred because we always call them āFred and Georgeā as if they were one person - just like their mum. Their own family couldnāt tell them apart. They didnāt have perfect grades like Percy. They werenāt as cool as Bill or Charlie. They werenāt the youngest male like Ron and they obviously werenāt female like Ginny. So they created a niche for themselves - The Pranksters. Because if people werenāt even going to bother to tell them apart then they were going to make people pay attention by pranking people and acting out. Then some scruffy looking boy in their younger brotherās year (ickle Harrikins) can tell them apart.
Thereās a reason George Weasley and Fred Weasley never pranked Harry Potter - because heās the only one that bothered to try.
I SWEAR I WILL REBLOG THIS EVERY TIME BECAUSE OF THE TEARS WELLING UP IN MY SOUL
I like to thing that George and Fred thought of Harry as their little brother too way before Harry had any romantic interest in Ginny.
Harry was also the one who invested in their niche fully, rather than being annoyed by it, he celebrated them for it. Ā Thatās why they gave him the Marauders Map and then he gave them the Triwizard gold:
ā āTake it,ā he said, and he thrust the sack into Georgeās hands. āWhat?ā said Fred, looking flabbergasted. āTake it,ā Harry repeated firmly. āI donāt want it.ā āYouāre mental,ā said George, trying to push it back at Harry. āNo, Iām not,ā said Harry. āYou take it, and get inventing. Itās for the joke-shop.ā āHe is mental,ā Fred said, in an almost awed voice. ⦠āHarry ā thanks,ā George muttered, while Fred nodded fervently at his sideā
Itās why they agreed to his request Ron get some new dress robes out of it. Theyāre clever not just funny āthey always get really good marksā but as OP says theyāre not as good as Percy, Bill or Charlie. They helped Ron get him out of the Dursleys:
āBut you canāt magic me out either āā āWe donāt need to,ā said Ron, jerking his head towards the front seats and grinning. āYou forget who Iāve got with me.ā
They get him into Hogsmede , they (unknowingly) helped the trio break into Umbridgeās ministry office.Ā They liked Harry for himselfĀ
āThis is all your fault,ā George said angrily to Wood. āāGet the Snitch or die tryingā ā what a stupid thing to tell him!āā
And cheered him up when things went wrong, such as Harry being accused of being the Heir of Slytherin
āThey went out of their way to march ahead of Harry down the corridors, shouting, āMake way for the heir of Slytherin, seriously evil wizard coming through ā¦ā Percy was deeply disapproving of this behaviour. āIt is not a laughing matter,ā he said coldly. āOh, get out of the way, Percy,ā said Fred, āHarryās in a hurry.ā āYeah, heās nipping off to the Chamber of Secrets for a cup of tea with his fanged servant,ā said George, chortling ā
Or when Ron and Hermione were made Prefects and Harry felt left out:
āYeah,ā said Fred slowly. āYeah, youāve caused too much trouble, mate. Well, at least one of youās got their priorities right.ā He strode over to Harry and clapped him on the back while giving Ron a scathing look.
They tricked Dudley because they know how crappy Harryās home is:Ā
āWe didnāt give it to him because he was a Muggle!ā said Fred indignantly. āNo, we gave it to him because heās a great bullying git,ā said George
And of course:
āGive her hell from us, Peeves.ā And Peeves, who Harry had never seen take an order from a student before, swept his belled hat from his head and sprang to a salute as Fred and GeorgeĀ wheeled about to tumultuous applause from the students below and sped out of the open front doors into the glorious sunset.Ā
Harry frequently heard students saying things like, āHonestly, some days I just feel like jumping on my broom and leaving this place,ā or else, āOne more lesson like that and I might just do a Weasley.ā
Harryās relationships with George and Fred are some of my favourites
*sniffle*
