I think almost everyone would prefer DADA over History of Magic. It’s a lot more active. Though I tend to like the books for that class too. And the suggested and not required reading too. It just adds to what they’re teaching.
“Plus the reading in DADA is a lot lighter. I agree, I have yet to meet a person who likes History of Magic out of all the courses, especially with those essays that we have to write.”
“Most likely not.” Ethan looked at Faryn for a moment. “Are you going to tell me his secrets?” He gave her a small smile as he said this.
“Nah, there’s no benefit in telling you anything, unfortunately.”
“I’ve heard that good students are like that.”
“Maybe. Well, I appreciate you having faith in me, whether I’m a true ‘good student’ or not.”
I know, I feel like a lot of people forget about that. I mean without books most of the information that we learn wouldn’t be available to us.
“Exactly. We definitely take them for granted. I mean sure, I prefer Defense Against the Dark Arts over History of Magic, but both are important.”
Yeah I guess that it does. Though despite being boring, it’s still good information to know.
“I completely agree. Sometimes studying from a book is just as useful as using a wand.”
“If you’re getting that much pressure from your parents then you need to have a conversation with them. They’re usually willing to listen. And if they aren’t… then you still just need to do what is best for you. I think the issue is that we get so caught up in what we think other people want that we don’t think about ourselves.”
“I’m not getting any pressure from my parents,” she said a little too quickly. “I’m not... It’s on me, and I need to learn how to balance.” But nevertheless, she knew that Luka was right. The problem was that Faryn wasn’t completely sure what she wanted at the moment. “What a relief that would be, to only have to think about ourselves.”
“You’re just stressed,” Rory said, shrugging her shoulders. “It happens. At least you know that you’re a little crazy,” she said with a small smile, hoping to get her to laugh. Everything was too sad lately.
Faryn smiled back and laughed softly, nodding her head. “I’ve been more than a little crazy,” she admitted. “I just want things to go back to normal. You know... when I cared less.”
“Well that sucks...”
Adrian shrugged “Yeah i could, but then maybe i will just keep ding it. I mean i’ve never been caught yet. Better to ask for forgiveness than or permission in this case. Plus im sneaky. I’ll figure it out.” he said hopefully “They don’t strike me as people who would care much about anyone’s rights or views.” he scoffed.
“That’s true, if you ask for permission and they say no then there’s more of a chance of them patrolling you,” she rolled her eyes. “Anyone who doesn’t care about people’s rights or views shouldn’t have authority over people, in my opinion.”
Yeah, that’s why I stopped taking it, though Ancient Studies isn’t all that helpful in the not being boring department, though some of it is pretty interesting,
“We all need that one slow class, I suppose. It tests our motivation. Yep, Ancient Studies sounds just as boring.”
“Try cracking your neck if you fall asleep on your books again. It helps a little.”
“Sounds painful, but if you say so.”
“Maybe, but she’s also got that look that I’m pretty sure could turn someone to stone, if she wanted.”
“She’s a strange one. But I guess she’s prevented death or permanent damage for many of us.”
“Man if only your father told you things.” Ethan gave Faryn a small smile. “Make sense that he doesn’t though.”
“Yeah, but what would a muggle know about patronuses anyway?” she shrugged. “I have managed to find out some of his secrets.”
“No I definitely won’t be bored, which I enjoy.” He looked at Faryn then nodded his head. “It does make you something though.”
“Dragons are great, I hope that career path works out,” she said, nodding with encouragement. “Yeah, it makes me a student who’s trying to pass her classes,” she joked.
“Nightmares?” Hannah asked. “Me, too. Makes it hard to even want to go to sleep at all, and yet that seems to make them worse.”
Faryn nodded in response. She usually didn’t like talking to anyone about her dreams, but she trusted Hannah enough. “I think that’s why I’ve been doing so much extra work. I’m trying to keep myself busy.”
“Tea it is. Follow me to the kitchens.” Amelia started to make her way to the kitchens, deciding that she also could use some tea. “I always have tea when I’m stressed.”
Faryn gingerly closed her book, realizing that she teared a part of one of the pages, and followed Amelia out of the library. She nodded in agreement, “tea is the greatest invention.”
“You looked like you needed the rest.” Briana relpied, ot looking up until she heard the sounds of agitated pages rustling. “Merlin, take it easy. What’d that poor book ever do to you? You know, besides putting you to sleep.”
“No... I don’t need to rest, I need to work,” she said, suddenly irritated. “This ‘poor’ book isn’t giving me the information that I need,” she replied, groaning.
“If it was easy, we’d learn earlier,” Nadya responded with a small shrug, hoping to be reassuring. “It just takes practice.”
“Okay, okay... I’ll get it eventually,” she said, feeling a rush of determination.
