@fayanora
many such foolish cases of things left unsaid :)
Samara Weaving
you'll feel like a total dipshit train wreck and no matter what some girl is gonna see you and think "role model". you can't kill yourself you have to go be clocky in the gas station so a 14 year old can have the trajectory of her life altered forever
as annoying as it is to work fast food, at my previous job one time a kid recognized the theta delta pin on my hat and was so fucking excited because i was the first other therian they had ever encountered offline.
"hey....are you a therian?" "yeah!" "what kind of animal?" "eh, some kinda dog" "😲😀 im like a wolf coyote hybrid" "that's fuckin awesome"
to be weird is to cast lifelines all around you

what really drives me nuts is that like. this happens an average of x times per year as a visibly weird person, but we only get made aware of it a small fraction of the time. you can't kill yourself you have to be clocky in the gas station.
Being clocky when i was working as a barista was one of my big joys. Being clocky when i was teaching high schoolers how to play the marimba was my reason for being for half a decade. It sucks how scared I am to leave the house I live in now. But I still need to try and be clocky at the grocery store. I wish i had a job to be clocky at. Being visibly me is one of the most radical acts I'm capable of, and I hope that one day we live in a world where it isn't radical at all.
that's exactly what I was feeling when I wrote this. we all find ways to defy our fear, love is an excellent motivator.
Me: "Oh yeah, I have accepted that I am a system!"
Also me:
• Is afraid to let others front, despite trying it before and knowing people don't care
• Suppressed out individuality in fear of... something
• Panics when I don't remember something, because "omg, what if I acted weirdly and people are weirded out"
• Is afraid of even being openly plural to myself, since "what if I am making it up?", despite other headmates yelling at me that I am not
• "Oh, I should stop talking to myself."
• "Oh, I should stop being weird."
The problem with the previous host is in the past.
He no longer exists (at least in his former form), but I hope that the acceptance of the system is now much better with our current host.
I like the idea of creatures having intelligence when they're not supposed to be according to "science" like yeah they have small brains but doesn't mean they couldn't invent tools. Our computers chips are small too but it can do every thing!
That's how I feel about dinosaurs......
There's this particular cutesy minimalist-but-highly-stylized art style very popular with anarchist zinesters and pamphleteers when I was in high school that really does it for me. Like if your book about how to grow vegetables in your apartment or w/e has an oddly-proportioned ballpoint pen drawing of a smiling punk riding a wibbly bicycle on the cover, it'll make me think "Oh, this one's probably very good."
Like this <3
"Remember when [evil thing] happened and no one cared??"
Actually, many people cared. Thousands if not millions of people cared a whole lot and talked about it and tried to help. Sadly, [evil thing] was drowned out by ten other calamities or crises or human rights violations within a week. And I'm genuinely sorry, but I only have so much energy to give for every new horror popping up constantly these days.
JUNE THE THIRD, AN EXCELLENT DAY!
hey you. teenage girl writing in her diary. quit talking about the boy you have a crush on and start writing about the current political situation, the valuation of currencies, and the level of technology your people hold. your diary might be the only piece of evidence our society existed after nuclear war fries all of our data backups. future historians don't need to know about damian, they need at least a secondhand accounts of the great water wars and whether or not your leaders truly did worship a deity called "the free hand of the market"
Keep writing about your crush Teenaged Girl. About your clothes, and how that other girl wore the same dress as you. Paint me a picture of what you were like.
Historians are going to hear about Damian and they're gonna LIKE IT
Make those future Historians reverse engineer the socioeconomic hierarchies of the 21st century from dreamy descriptions of Damian's current fashions. It's giving them enrichment.
Talk about the things you want to talk about. You never know what mysteries your diary might solve in future generations bc you are the only person who talks about something that other people thought was too obvious to talk about, like whatever that third condiment dish that used to be on the table with salt and pepper was for.
Somebody should sell a product where you can write by, I dunno, etching onto ceramic plates or something that has a fair chance of surviving to be read by the archeologists of the future.
Because you know a minimum of 50% of people would be deliberately pranking those future scientists.
"Dear Diary (and future scientists, hi!) - how i wish I could sneak out to meet my secret boyfriend Damian tonight, but it's June 2nd and of course everybody has to stay home tonight with a whisk broom because of the carapaces."
These things do exist. :)

THE BIG MAMDANI
Fantastic idea
Article about it here.
what’s important to note and missing from the “headline” tweet is that they simultaneously constructed additional good public transit to the public transit already in the city (bus rapid transit, train stations). Just removing highway alone isn’t going to make traffic better, the bigger part of the story is that they improved public transportation. And the current mayor wants to do more - cyclist lanes and reinstate a tram system
edit: someone’s noted that the current [2022] mayor is backtracking on support for public transportation. so. anyway love undated articles talking about good things from the 2000s
