Iruka’s Ninjutsu
I was thinking about Iruka’s ninjutsu and what it could be, seeing as Iruka has had little to no opportunity to shine as a shinobi. But I’ve come to the conclusion that Iruka is a Barrier Ninjutsu and Fuinjutsu specialist:
His father wore a large scroll on his back during the Kyubi’s attack. While not exclusively used for sealing, they have been shown to be used for it fairly frequently (Jiraiya sealed Amaterasu into it for example, and sealing objects into scrolls for later use is the foundation of Tenten’s fighting style).
In the anime Iruka uses a barrier ninjutsu to try and trap Mizuki (during the arc where Mizuki breaks out of jail). There’s a lot of overlaps between barrier ninjutsu and fuinjutsu (and also space-time ninjutsu).
Also, when Iruka tries to stop Naruto from leaving the Turtle island he tries to restrain Naruto using String Light Formation which is both a Fuinjutsu and a Barrier Ninjutsu.
Iruka had also picked up his Allied Shinobi Forces forehead protector and had been given his war assignment at the Turtle Island and stayed there throughout the war - the only unit confirmed to be have been stationed there was Allied Shinobi Forces’ Barrier Unit.
Also, for the record I wish they’d make his echolocation jutsu canon, cos that was pretty cool.
@sufferthesea
I really like this! I feel like Iruka gets overlooked a lot, especially in the fandom. His strength, knowledge, and jutsu are pushed to the side so he can be the “short-tempered Academy teacher” (and most of the fandom looks down on him for teaching at the Academy instead of going out on missions; I assume they believe he’s weak, when he’s shown to be quite strong).
Iruka seems to be the ninja everyone forgets is a ninja. He went through the same training as everyone else, he passed the chunin exams, and he used to go out on missions but felt he was more useful at the Academy (and quite honestly, better suited there because his kindness on missions was dangerous, but empathy and compassion in a classroom are necessary).
Iruka isn’t weak!! He isn’t someone to pity! He isn’t someone to look down on! He’s a ninja! He could frikk you up!! He’s so strong!! And brave!! And I love this analysis a LOT because his ninjutsu (*cough cough* he himself, really *cough cough*) never gets ANY attention!
Iruka is ‘just a weak chuunin teacher’ is one of my biggest pet peeves in the fandom.
The first databook, Rin no Sho, says he is ‘excellent and blessed with talent’ and that he earned the respect of the higher ups by completing multiple A-rank missions. He was listed as doing 11 A-rank missions in that book. For comparison’s sake, Ebisu was listed as doing 1 and he is a tokubetsu jounin. They would not have put Iruka on 11 A-rank missions if he were weak and dragging his team down. He knows his shit.
His stats are also really respectable. In the first databook, he is listed at a total of 24, but he improves in ninjustu, taijutsu, intelligence, and hand seals in the second book, putting him at 26. Anko is at 25, Ebisu is 25, Genma is 27. So as far as levels go, he is right there with those guys. If you want to say Iruka is weak, you need to say all tokubetsu jounin are weak too.
He is also damn smart. His intelligence stat in the 2nd book is 4.5. Geniuses like Kakashi and Shikamaru are 5s.
I really wish more would have been done with him, because there is a bunch of stuff there to explore.
Also, seconding the wish for his echolocation jutsu to be canon so hard.
Your addition to this post made me cry. I’m so happy.

my cat hates taking his pills. the only way we can get him to eat them is to turn it into an elaborate pantomime - we take the packet out of the cupboard slowly and hold it up, saying “oh!! what’s this? what’s this? a TREAT? a TREAT for louis????” while making surprised faces. we offer him a pill… then, before he has a chance to sniff it, we wag our fingers at him and replace it in the packet so it becomes a Tantalising Forbidden Mystery. we continue doing this until he’s so confused and excited that he will eat the pill as fast as possible, just so he can find out what it is before we can take it away from him again. as soon as he’s eaten it he looks utterly disappointed and betrayed, like a child who just ate a delicious sweet only to find it was a chocolate-coated brussels sprout. it never gets old
Op this is the funniest thing I’ve ever read
op how could you just hide this from me in the tag this makes this objectively 10000000% funnier
It’s so funny how everyone is doing LITERALLY every extra unnecessary and unhelpful thing for essential workers except advocate for us to be better paid or paying us directly. Like it’s hilarious to me in the most depressing way how out of touch middle class/non-essential workers are about what people actually need.
But we sang you a song, we made you a comic calling you heroes, we posted a “thank you!” graphic on FB! And when the news story broke that you died from Covid-19 we sad reacted and commented something like: “True patriots of America! Deserve to be more appreciated.”
If you appreciate us so much why not just straight up give us money? Raise money to pay for the medical bills of sick workers? Raise money for immuno-compromised workers so they don’t have to die on the job? Like! What’s not clicking, what’s not clicking!
I do not know how to break it to people who claim to care about essential workers but “thank you,” is the most useless thing you can do for us, aside from actively making our lives more difficult or idk purposefully trying to get us sick. You actually and really, truly care? Again, advocate for us, or pay us money. It’s really that simple! 🤷🏻♂️
So you know how you love me because you haven’t had a single meeting with anyone since I became your assistant? That’s because every time someone calls and requests a meeting with you, I always schedule it for March 31st.
just putting this here so everyone will make the right choice!!!!
Really excited to see people doing rent strikes the right non-reckless way: well prepared, lawyered-up, with everyone in the building/block.
April’s getting close so here’s a reminder: - You never strike alone & people online don’t count. You need to work with the other tenants of the same landlord. - You never strike without a plan on how to deal with retaliation. - A strike isn’t a protest, it’s a fight. Expect your opponent to fight back. Make sure you have a plan for how to win.

Bibbity bobbity boo!
I had my own fairy godmother this weekend at comic con. So magical.
I slowed the actual transformation down 200% so you can see just how brilliant it is… From the first sign of the ballgown to completely changed takes less than 3 seconds. That is some epic-level crafting.
@justhere4coffee thank you! Wanted it to be as quick a transformation as possible!
Thinking about that guy that created a cleanroom in his local makerspace and built an entire gene therapy from scratch, making a virus that supposedly delivered the ability to digest lactose and then SWALLOWED IT LIKE A MAD SCIENTIST AND CURED HIMSELF OF LACTOSE INTOLERANCE, EATING TWO CHEESE PIZZAS TO PROVE IT
The balls on this guy
Anyway we need more of these people
To reiterate, this guy created a virus FROM SCRATCH to change all of the cells of his stomach lining. And then he SWALLOWED it!!. And it worked!!! Amsmzkdkejshdmxidkdhdjwjdodjfh I could never
The craving for Cheese unhindered is a powerful thing
this guy: if i had lactose intolerance i would simply cure it
this guy, eating a block of cheese: rip to y’all but i’m different
