anyway, in a "benders do both" au I feel like Sokka, as a relatively fem-coded man (appreciating stereotypically fem-coded things like shopping and fashion, etc) (once he gets out of his sexism phase at least) would have some Feelings about being the only member of Team Avatar who 1)does not experience menstruation and/or 2) will never even have the possiblity of getting pregnant, because he's a nonbender. Like I feel like there's some delightful opportunity to explore Sokka's gender identity as being wrapped up in his nonbending identity, whether you interpret that to be gnc Man or NB or whatever floats your fancy.

you know that one criminal minds episode about the lady who kills her husband and cleans up before the police arrive because he'd be furious with her if they saw the house so dirty? that's zuko. some kind of modern au, presumably, and he doesn't necessarily have to actually kill ozai, but just. procedural fic with the gaang interrogating zuko and realizing just how far the distorted reality goes when he tells them that his father was kind and merciful for burning him and giving him a chance to learn and return home.

You've seen those fics where characters played by the same actor end up as reincarnations of one another? Well, you know what my very first thought was when I watched BBC Merlin for the first time and saw Gili?

"Wait a second, that's DUDLEY!"

So. fic in which Gili gets reincarnated as Dudley, meaning of course that this is a Magical Dudley au, and he and Harry have a very different childhood when Vernon and Petunia's number one enforcer outside the home instead grows up with a head full of memories of being oppressed in Camelot.

you know those fics where zuko is secretly pregnant during the events of the show for angst reasons? that except that instead of having the baby during the day of black sun or after his agni kai with azula, instead it's a cryptic pregnancy and the baby comes on the ferry to ba sing se, meaning that he and iroh are settling into the outer ring with an infant Izumi and zuko's iroh-or-azula question during crossroads of destiny comes down to whether or not his one-month-old will be safe in the fire palace or not (which. she may or may not be, but zuko DEFINITELY won't be as a 16 year old returning from exile with an infant)

there's a scene in my head that I have 0 plot and 0 additional context for, in which somehow the Gaang ends up confronting Ozai with Zuko being there Ba Sing Se style but instead of just struggling internally and then flipping sides, he both genuinely knows his father is wrong and is too scared to oppose him, leading to the back and forth between the Gaang and Ozai/Azula trying to convince Zuko to their side resulting in Zuko collapsing to his knees, crying, saying "I'm loyal, I'm loyal, I promise I'm loyal" over and over again

Ozai held the flame at Zuko's face with such intensity for such a long period of time that Zuko has permanent brain damage. Iroh, who promised to kill Ozai if Zuko didn't survive his injury, takes this as sufficient damage to take revenge, challenges his brother to an Agni Kai, kills him, takes the throne, and begins the long, hard process of settling peace.

Chief Hakoda of the Wolf Cove tribe arrives to a peace summit with other world and military leaders where the new Fire Lord has requested representatives of neutral Kyoshi island to act as moderators to help settle questions of withdrawal, reparations, and treaties going forward. His children weren't supposed to come, but he finds himself surprisingly grateful that they snuck aboard when they somehow manage to make friends with the Fire Lord's spirit-touched nephew, inadvertently easing the way for some of the more difficult negotiations.

those delicious fics that have these four be soulmates? that, but every time Zuko gets caught with writing from his soulmates visible he has to write "I am a loyal son of the fire nation" on his body 100 times. Bonus points if injuries/scars also become visible (even if only temporarily) and the others can see that he's being punished in other ways too. (they start writing on their thighs pretty quickly.) Bonus bonus points if it turns into a "zuko joins the gaang early" fic where he's super reluctant and absolutely refuses to admit that that's actually what he's doing but he's also finding ways to slip them intelligence and heads up when he can, and every time they comment on it he insists that's not what's happening because he's LOYAL*

a few years after the events of atla, an ancient avatar visits aang in a dream to inform him that there's an entire society of energy benders who left the world in vessels of spirit a very long time ago. Now they are facing the end of their existence, and in order to preserve them, the spirit of the universe itself is crying out. It can pull them away using the same power that sent their ancestors out in the Tho Yor, but it needs a place to put them.

Aang is the Avatar. Aang is an air nomad, who seeks to preserve life wherever he can. Aang offers up the air temples.

aka, Force Usage is energybending and the Force (i.e. the energy of the universe) has just gotten permission from the Avatar to transplant all the Jedi from the moments after Order 66 starts (after the order has been issued but before anyone has actually died) to the Air temples. They all appear pretty much at random and nobody knows who's alive or not until communications can happen-- which is both harder, because this world doesn't yet have radio transmission, and easier, because there's so much less darkness in the force that mind-to-mind communication is suddenly a lot easier than it was in a galaxy so many galaxies away from the one they now find themselves in.

Then he meets Bruce and realizes that actually, cass is the one who has adopted him and Bruce is going to claim responsibility for both of them regardless of how old or nominally adultish Clint is Cass drags him to the manor and presents him like a puppy she found in a ditch Bruce can only sigh and approach it with the same kind of attitude: “You can only keep him if you can take care of him”
