yeah it was a monumental collaborative project. I realised I could never get 24 words out on my own but the concept was so special to me that I chose to take a gamble on it. I reached out to his representation and after about eight months of negotiation over rights, fees etc we reached an agreement where he would develop nine words in-studio (first instance of 'of', 'four or five pints of cider' which was later edited down to what you see in the release, second instance of 'my', and 'kebab'). I drafted the rest of the post with support and oversight from his publicity agent, and the post was soft launched as a limited series of placards in Brixton late last year. due to the lukewarm reception, there was talk of pulling the tumblr release altogether, but fortunately we were able to settle on a route forward whereby I bought out full rights to the seven words authored by mr gallagher alongside limited rights of reproduction to allow me to publish the work under my own blog (with allowance for third party reblogs in perpetuity etc). I'll probably never pull off anything of this scope again, and it's a shame it never quite got off the ground the way we hoped, but it was an interesting experience and one I'll always value as part of my artistic development.

this may sound crazy but i care more about people not getting carpet bombed and airstriked and gassed and shot and murdered en masse by imperial armed forces than like their thoughts on gay people. i know!! sorry homonationalists!! i care more about the lives of iranians than like their hypothetical apparently monolothic views on queer people!! as a lesbian!! if it makes you see them as human beings there are also gay and trans global southerners? in palestine and libya and somalia and the dprk and russia and iran and iraq and lebanon there are gay people. but most importantly there are people. like if a palestinian is homophobic we can talk about that when they're not being targeted in a genocide. it's also impossible to separate the homophobia of people from these countries from western propaganda and imperialism. yes many russians, kazakhs & eastern europeans are going to be averse to expressions of gay sexuality after the coercion & trafficking of men into gay porn post fall of the ussr. of course many iraqis are going to view homosexuality as depraved if their first encounter with it was images from abu ghraib showing prisoners being sodomised, raped, and forced into humiliating sexual situations with other prisoners. of course libyans watching their people being sold into sexual slavery are going to be distrustful of homosexuality. of course men raped by american soldiers and their loved ones are going to be distrustful. of course someone living under a government that is anti-lgbtq rights is going to have to reckon with that. as a lesbian as a very proud lesbian i literally value people of colour's lives more than a white westerners feelings over "but they're probably homophobic 🥺" like you wouldn't even be the one suffering from that homophobia. that would be the queer people also being blown up because they also live there.
