hi trans kiwis and friends. if you haven't seen the news, they're trying to pass a frankly insidious bill in aotearoa to define the terms 'man' and 'woman' based on biological sex. this unsurprisingly reflects a lot of similar cruel efforts happening overseas at the moment. IT HASN'T PASSED YET, but I figured I should speak up about it because this is happening as we speak.

it seems very fucking bleak!!!! please don't lose hope! it hasn't passed yet and a lot of the shoddy bills suggested by the coalition have been shot down already. it's still worth knowing about. you don't have to share this post if you don't want to. I just know that a lot of my followers are kiwi. if there are any updates as to what we can do to push back against this, I'll make a relevant addition. kia kaha, okay? love you all.

New York Times spokesperson Graham James says that “the issue is that Times content on the Internet Archive is being used by AI companies in violation of copyright law to directly compete with us.” (The Times declined to clarify whether this was something that was actually happening or rather a hypothetical concern.)

at a certain point, if you want people to recognize how bad it is that nintendo saddled a man with an astronomically huge debt and garnished his wages, you have to stop calling it slavery. all you are doing is making people feel relief when they quickly learn that he was not enslaved. you are setting the bar so low that when reality clears it it seems good. no it is not "indentured servitude" either. that is not more accurate. its wage garnishment. wage garnishment is bad enough to oppose. calling it slavery is not an attempt to get people to take it seriously, its an attempt to paint nintendo as uniquely evil for an unfortunately common practice, which i can only assume you are doing because the reality of nintendo as a corporation betrays your nostalgic childhood memories. i am also left to assume you do not think wage garnishment is all that bad, as you are not calling every other case of wage garnishment slavery, despite it being very common and very harmful. generously, i think some accidental rhetorical sleight of hand happened at first. Nintendo began garnishing his prison wages, and prison labor can be slave labor, though it generally is not considered as such when there are wages to garnish. even then, it would be an issue of the prison system, and now that he is out of jail, its no longer relevant. wage garnishment is bad enough. continuing to lie about will only make people look into it, find out you are lying, and not take you seriously anymore. WAGE GARNISHMENT IS BAD ENOUGH

Not that I think one should design Black characters for solely Aesthetic purposes, but I love how some Black edits reveal to me that Black character designs look... Better, as designs.

As one example, every time I see a mid- to dark-brown skinned Melinoe, I appreciate how it brings the bright color palette of her original design together in a smooth way that the bone white just... Doesn't.

Melanin loves light and color!! There's so much to work with, I can't fathom not finding us interesting to draw!!
