as an example: i put my headphones in my bag. i say im sure they're in my bag, but what if i imagined putting them in my bag? i have to check, so i stick my hand inside and grab them. but then i have to check *again* because what if i just so happened to have another object shaped and sized exactly like my headphones that i just forgot about? so i have to pull them out of my bag and look directly at them to fully confirm they were in my bag

I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.

It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.

I am so very serious when I say that minors should have a legal and easily reinforceable right to say "I don't want to live with my parents (or other adult caretakers)/I don't want to be around that person/I don't want to go to that place" and actually get their wish accommodated. My rule of thumb with cooking and picky eaters is that I'm fine with people being picky, but I'm not ok with people lying about it. So if you've got a long list of things you can't or won't eat, give me the list, and I'm fine with cooking by it. Like literally just write a google docs with all your Yucky Ingredients on it and I can find a way to cook with whatever's left that isn't on the list.

But if you go "no I'm fine with anything it's ok I'll eat it :)" when I ask you what you will and won't eat, and once the food is on the table then you go "ew yuck it has Bad Ingredient, I can't eat this :(" I'm going to beat you with a frying pan.

Last year I mentioned that I loved the ‘scary’ part of Christmas and how telling ghost stories used to be a regular Christmas tradition and that I think adding some of the midwinter dread back to Christmas would be awesome. And someone was like ‘Think of the children. It’s a holiday for children.’ ????? Frightening the fuck out of myself was a favorite pastime as a child and probably a favorite pastime of millions of children worldwide. I think the children who genuinely hate anything remotely scary encompass an extremely small minority of children. Certainly none of the kids I went to elementary school with, we loved telling scary stories, ghost stories, crimes, urban legends. We’d even create our own, arbitrarily decide the chronically unoccupied house on the street was haunted and a mother used to keep her daughter locked in the attic. There was absolutely no evidence for that and it was an early 2000s housing market bubble new-ish house and everything. Ghost stories on Christmas Eve would IMPROVE the holiday for children.
