Piercing I want

its finally over... all 352 species in the family columbidae!!!
took me 48 hours in the span of 34 days,,
free pdf for anyone that wants it
you know how they sent victorian people to the beach for their health. you need to sit outside for your health now. okay?
im just someones fat furry cousin in a parking lot
Starry Owlet-Nightjar (Aegotheles tatei), family Aegothelidae, order Aegotheliformes, Papua New Guinea (endemic)
Owlet-nightjars are not nightjars, and are not in the nightjar order Caprimulgiformes. (And are also not closely related to owls).
They are in their own order.
They are not as closely related to nightjars or frogmouths, as previously thought.
This species is beloved and deeply desired by birdwatchers, and if I saw one I would pee my pants. (One my top 10 birds!)
photograph by Lev Frid
its so hard researching a species when all the info you can get is 2 paragraphs on google and a couple of 13-seconds youtube videos
i may be a tiger flatworm therian. hard to figure out tho since i literally cant find ways to learn about them
I know I sound like your mom but you kids need to stop fucking vaping
1) Vaping is confirmed to cause cancer. Vaping coats the lungs with toxic substances, such as heavy metals and benzene, which are known to cause cancer
2) Many vapes contain diacetyl, which, when inhaled causes popcorn lung, or scarring of the lung
3) Ultrafine particles, when being inhaled, can be lodged in the trachea (not good!)
4) Ultrafine particles can also constrict the arteries in the lungs potentially causing A HEART ATTACK
5) Vaping is relatively new. Not much studies have been done in comparison to tobacco. Plus, the vaping companies are powerful people. There is a large chance that they are purposely downplaying and even burying any evidence that vaping is harmful - just like the tobacco companies before them. They do not care about you, or your health, or the truth. They only care for money
Also STOP VAPING INDOORS AROUND OTHER PEOPLE. Holy shit, if you're gonna wreck your lungs at least give me the option not to wreck mine.
It’s such an issue that the MTA had to run a campaign about it
yeah okay ill reblog that
Please I’m begging yall as an asthmatic, your fruit-flavored vapor will still give people around you who are smoke-sensitive attacks. So will weed. Don’t do it inside; if you’re at a bus stop or something try to not stand right next to people or move downwind of them if you can.
i see so many people have similar favorite animal the same species. ( theres no issue w this btw !! i love snow leopardss )
if anyone know if any more underrated species, please share so if anyone sees this post they can be introduced to new species !!
heres my contribute:
the fossa,,,,, how i love u
tiger flatworm & candy-striped polychaete :)
I drew all of my kintypes and hearttypes mixed together!
It’s a cat base with rabbit ears, deer antlers, and a Bernese mountain dog pattern!

My first Art Fight attack!
This is Ploink by @five-red-feathers
Their Art Fight has a lot of great characters to make attacks for :)
I’ve seen a lot of creatures start to use ID numbers/tags for their names and I think thats really cool C:
just saw a "invertebrates therians dni" and its most likely because of a phobia so i respect that being, but the concept is so funny like "ONLY animals with BONES can interact!!!!!!"
on a side note, i might be a marine flatworm,, ive been questioning this 'type forever
Why does every [hyperbole] canine alterhuman have mutt in their username now?!? Bro, mutt is a slur, and one that would be used against somepup like me! ( ・ัω・ั)
I'm not particularly offended by it, but the lack of knowledge on this really turns me off from tryna talk to y'all. Someone could be really offended by it.
Be mindful! Even if you aren't using it as a slur, that doesn't mean it isn't one.
(sorry if this is stupid in advance but I'm curious) If tetrapods evolved from fish, and that's where a ton of vertebrates come from (making us and a lot of things fish), what about birds? Are they also fish or did they branch off at another point?
Birds evolved from fish too!
I'll try to draw this simply, so *only* extant taxa:
-- Vertebrates ------ Cartilagenous Fish | Bony Fish ----- Ray-Finned Fish | Lobe-Finned Fish ------ Coelacanth | Rhipidistia ----- Lungfish | Tetrapods ----- Amphibians | Amniotes ----- Mammals | Reptiles ----- Lizards, Snakes, Tuatara | Archelosaurs ----- Turtles | Archosaurs ----- Crocodilians | Birds
See how birds are in the group that descends from "reptiles", but "reptiles" descends from "lobe finned fish"? Well, you never leave a group you evolved from, you're stuck for life. So birds are Archosaurs, which are all Archelosaurs, which are all reptiles, which are all amniotes, which are all tetrapods, which are all rhipidistians, which are all lobe finned fish, which are all bony fish, which are all vertebrates ^_^
Tada!
CLADISTICS ruined my life
yall joke but this is actually a serious conundrun with cladistic-based classification
The choice is this:
Birds are reptiles
Or crocodilians (and probably turtles) ARENT
That’s it, that’s the choice
What if Bird and reptiles are two different things that came from the same thing
Nope
Because you can’t group (lizards, snakes, tuatara, turtles, crocodilians) without also including (birds)
So if you don’t want to include birds in reptiles then you have to leave out some things we’ve called reptiles
birds are dinosaurs though, full stop. we’ve already defined what a dinosaur is and it includes birds. but reptiles isn’t really defined so much as thrown against a wall angrily.
But don’t turtles and alligators have more in common with modern reptiles than modern birds have in common with modern reptiles? I’m not trying to contradict, I’m trying to understand. Mammals and reptiles have a common ancestor as well, but we do not make them the same group.
It’s not about having things in common. It’s about common ancestry, which is how we classify animals in light of extinct species, which defy trait-based classification.
And, the common ancestor of [lizards, snakes, tuatara, turtles, crocodilians] by definition is also the common ancestor of birds. It is NOT the common ancestor of mammals.
So, either we decide that Tuatara Lizards and Snakes are the only reptiles, or we include birds as reptiles. Or we just decide reptiles are no longer a thing.
don’t throw reptiles against the wall? please? some of them are small and delicate. you could hurt them.
Basically, unless we’re maybe talking massive horizontal gene transfer, everything is still part of the group that came before it.
You are technically a fish.
IIRC the fish thing is so frustrating that scientists have decided fish is just not real cladistic grouping at all
hey could we go back please to the bit where the closest relative of Birds is Crocodiles? bc I am alarmed
Well, technically they’re equally-closely related to crocodiles, alligators, gharials and tomistomas. As archosaurs, they’re all descended from small reptiles that looked something like this
The two main groups of archosaurs are the Pseudosuchia, or crocodile-line archosaurs, and the Ornithodira, or bird-line archosaurs. Both groups were massively diverse in prehistory, with the Pseudosuchia dominating most land-based niches in the Triassic, and the Ornithodira, especially the dinosaurs, doing the same during the Jurassic and Cretaceous. However, most of them have been wiped out due to the Triassic and Cretaceous mass extinctions, leaving them each with only one surviving clade: Aves, the true birds, and Crocodylia, the semiaquatic, ambush predators like crocs and gators.
This entire post sums up everything we’re not allowed to mention in our Vertebrata classes because the last time someone started that argument they had to break up a fistfight.
I’m just hung up on the humans evolving from fish comment.
Like, we evolved from tiny tree-climbing squirrels. To the best of our knowledge.
…which evolved from tiny tree-climbing reptiles
…which evolved from amphibians
…which evolved from fish.
*runs in ten minutes late with a plucked chicken* BEHOLD A LIZARD
you could have left the feathers on this time tbh
It was already plucked. They just STOLE IT from philosophy 101.
we evolved from tiny tree-climbing squirrels
no we evolved from tree-climbing SHREWS
i always wanted a leg band/collar id number for myself, since most domestic birds have one, but its hard when your species doesnt exist :')
im a horned gryphon,,
still i went with [IT-09-30524-XM] as an ID
IT is for italy, where i live (and also my hearthome is the alps)
09 is for my birth year
30524 (30/05/2024) is the date my pigeon Burger died, and i became a bird as well
XM is my gender (my species doesnt have a sex, but i like being referred to as a boy)
