Everyone's so quick to judge the jedi for the war but as we learnt from the old republic. If the jedi hadn't of interfered in the war and become generals they would have been criticised for being pacifists and weak. The republic probably would have threatened and begged them since they live on the republic's home ground, even cast out socially by the senate and its citizens.
The jedi would have been criticised for picking their own morals and pacifism over the lives of all the republic citizens and non citizens being attacked by the CIS and underthreat by them.
The star was fans, already criticised the jedi for being too politically neutral. They criticise the jedi, for being too weak to interfere on another planet's political issues and trying to be diplomatic.
They forget that jedi ARE MONKS. They aren't soldiers on the republic's leash for them to send out to do whatever the republic desires. They have to be diplomatic and neutral BECAUSE THEY ARE PEACEKEEPERS.
The jedi did not want this war, but they knew there had no choice but to enter it. If they didn't, how many people would have died without the jedi order. How many unfit non jedi generals would have sent clone to their deaths, not caring about them at all. At least the jedi cared about the clones. They knew they couldn't save them. They knew they were fated to die. They knew they needed the soldiers. But the jedi still learned their names and memorised them.
The republic without the jedi order, we're not fit to handle the CIS. All it would take is for grievous, ventress or even dooku himself to show up and the battle to be over.
The jedi knew this. They also felt a bit responsible Since dooku was the one "responsible" for this war in their eyes.
Palpatine purposely put the jedi in a corner forcing them to do what they did with what little choice palpatine had let for them.
People seem to forget this war was orchestrated by him. And you cannot blame the jedi for not sensing palpatine. In one of the legends books it's canon that palpatine can hide his sith presence from the jedi. Making himself completely invisible to their force raders.
The jedi had no choice. It's that simple. They may have made mistakes and ill choices, but they were victims of a sith lord too.
That's what makes this all tragic.
"Damn if you do, damn if you dont." Fits the jedi quite well.
Also to the person in the comments who said that jedi were baby stealers. I'd like to talk with you in person. Please ignore the steel chair I'll bringing with me in the meeting, I just want to have a NICE talk 😃.
If any of you watched the clone wars, you'd know that jedi don't steal babies. They have a whole episode where a woman giving up her infant son, and that son is taken by the sith pretending to be the jedi. The whole premise is the jedi locate these force sensitive children and the parents give them to the jedi order if they want too.
