once I snorted a fat line of nuance and everything started depending. watch out
i dont understand this new wave of txf fans acting like the show is a glee-level trainwreck and refering to it almost as a guilty pleasure.
its a good show.
it has won awards.
critics and fans have in the present and in the past overwhelmingly liked it.
its got good great character building, thrilling even if sometimes clunky world building, amazing cinematography, award winning writing and actor chemistry that literally created words in the vocabulary.
so whats with this whole
"omg guys i just rewatched that shitshow we like and......its actually not that bad??"
dont get me wrong it has a world of issues namely incosistent lore and misogyny abound but what is this frankly lame perfomance of acting like watching your favorite show is cringey.
and yet you, and you alone, is able to overcome its many flaws to find something decent about it?
anyways im kind of tired of consuming things ironically.
i love the x files.
its a good show.

“Pack it up boys we’ve made a social blunder” is the funniest sentence I’ve ever read 😭😭😭😭😭
DANA SCULLY & FOX MULDER The X Files, ‘Never Again’
We need to go back to using sailing ships full time like immediately. Yes it would take longer to get places but the Aesthetic is unmatched
Like there is nothing sexier hthan this
Can’t wait for OP to get scurvy
Are you under the impression that the ships themselves are what caused scurvy
Once again. Do you think this is the fault of the ships themselves
"My family thinks because im a leftist it means im radical but like whats radical about that? I just want everyone to hug, no bad things to happen, free healthcare and be nice to everyone" - the coldest, rudest most judgemental person you know.
Yeah. This. It's the refusal to acknowledge that the world is messy and complicated, that tradeoffs are a thing, and that people can disagree in good faith. Because only a Bad Person could possibly disagree with "healthcare and hugs."
Another fortuitous gift from the benevolent Tumblr Feed Gods.
mulder telling all those people in like medical-esk setting, "you have to call my doctor. call dr. scully."
SIR???
do we think he genuinely put her down as his emergency contact on his FBI paperwork? because i do. i think that woman is somehow his physician, next of kin, life coach, designated driver and favourite person all at once.
I had that dream again last night. About Dana being taken away? I can't tell you how it scares me.
It's probably scarier when you stop having the dream. Don't you think?
I think another thing that’s annoying in the discussion about children’s media is that some people cannot comprehend that age appropriate complex themes exist and don’t make the media they appear in somehow “adult” when it was clearly made with a younger audience in mind. All Dogs Go To Heaven, The Incredibles, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Batman: The Animated Series all contain dark themes and subtext, but they were all clearly made to fit within the restrictions of children’s media and be age appropriate. They all contain on screen or heavily implied character deaths. Some of them contain suggestive jokes, character moments, or plot beats, but it’s never explicit or undigestible to a child’s mind.
I think this attitude we have about children’s media that it needs to be sanitized and safe is why we have so many kids who can’t handle the truly adult presentation of some of these themes and concepts when they get older, and why the vast majority of children’s media coming out currently is frankly bland, boring, and borderline condescending. Because as a culture we’ve okayed this talking down to children as if they cannot comprehend certain concepts like culture clash, or the passing of a beloved pet, or the sudden loss of a parent, or the feeling of powerlessness, or the idea that evil exists period.
It’s like media for kids has become something that isn’t just training wheels for kids to build upon so they can graduate to more complex and explicit things, but it exists to keep them sheltered away from hard concepts at all. It’s like not letting them onto the bike with the training wheels because they might fall off and then they never actually learn how to ride. Same for playgrounds btw.
the most valueable skill a white leftist can ever learn is how to take an L with grace.
You gotta be able to take an L if your moral and ethical belief systems are to be capable of guiding you. Otherwise you just have an idealized self where you get really mad and scared when anyone points out it isn't actually you. How the fuck are you gonna walk the walk if you can't handle being told when you are not, in fact, actually walking it
you cannot just socially transition into being a good person you are going to have to settle for being a messy human being who has to try and fail and keep trying to get better like everyone else. yeah even when it's embarassing and sucks for you a lot.
Ya gotta learn to earnestly and honestly say "Oh shit, my bad."
And to then end the sentence there, not launch into a paragraph of explanation or panicked super-apology.
if you see criticism of racism within your community as criticism of the community as a whole then you have a racist community. sorry.
WHERE is that poem about that person learning all about their partners hyperfixation before getting dumped the last line is like "love is a stack of books on my nightstand with a bookmark near the end" I need it to feel whole help me please

A Bookmark Near the End
He loves history. He wanted to write a biography of John Quincy Adams. I, shamefully, knew almost nothing about John Quincy Adams, so I went online and bought every biography of him I could find. One day, he called me, claiming that we wouldn’t work out long term. He said he loved me but that we had different interests. “What does love mean to you?” I said. “That’s an impossible question,” he replied. I, however, find love to be quite simple. Love is the stack of biographies on my nightstand with a bookmark near the end. — Julia Nicole Camp
