And just--I can get past the plot hole of reincarnation in a godless world (and I do think it's a genuine plot hole, not that all of these lookalikes are coincidences)--but I just keep getting stuck on thinking there was no reason why they couldn't be together as themselves with their god damn memories. It kind of doesn't matter how sweet the concept of the episode's coda may be if it's completely fucking unnecessary, the audience knows the plot could've gone a dozen different ways, and it renders the entire story tragic when that was not at all what the original first season was like.

I understand why the people involved with the production who had no say over the script might feel the need to defend it, but it's really bizarre watching people act like it isn't a tragic ending for characters who suffered and suppressed their desire to be together for 6,000 years to just sacrifice themselves without ever finding peace becaaaauuuseee......Gaiman needed to shoehorn in his nihilistic plot? It's so unearned, and I don't know how people aren't mad about what's essentially a variation of the "everything you watched was a dream" trope with a) the entire attempt to stop the first apocalypse being for nothing and b) the main characters' millennia-old relationship not existing in the world where their reincarnations get to be together instead. This is like the 4th version of this post I've made and I'm still mad lmao, but also just confused at some reviews like "well the story was a mess but the ending was actually pretty lovely :)" Out of context, yeah, it is. In context, no it's not! It's gut-wrenching!

I appreciated a review I read that was essentially like "the ending was nice, but ultimately left me feeling cold because everyone got erased and people matter." Just, thank you! Yes! This shit has an audience score of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes for a reason; people don't like when you literally just erase the show they just watched at the last second

this was going to be a reply to a post about good omens fandom discourse but it got too long

maybe a hot take but i think a lot of the disagreement is coming from the fact that liking the finale is apparently supposed to be the default and can be freely untagged while actually being the more unpopular opinion and disliking the finale or rightfully/respectfully criticising its flaws (because even if you liked it, you cant deny it has them) is seen as unnecessary negativity and hate. it sucks but i think the fandom needs more separation than it already has. i have all asa and anthony related tags blocked but i still see posts about them all the time and stuff like the ao3 decision to lump them in with the aziracrow tags makes it harder for people who were upset by the finale (which, again, by every survey ive seen, is the majority of the fandom) to avoid things that would make them more upset.

(might be pushing it here for a post i dont plan on tagging anti go3 but) a lot of people have pointed out that the finale feels like a completely different show; you have a different genera, tone and theme, a different canon, a different universe and different characters. maybe it should just be its own fandom

Here's a summary of the Gooseworx situation if you are confused/concerned but don't want to trawl through the nuclear wasteland of this fandom and its haters.

1) 7 years ago, in 2019, Gooseworx used the common slang prefix for evil twins "nega," shortened from "negative" to refer to an evil version of a character, calling it a "nega-Angel."

2) People who actively hate this woman on levels even I struggle to comprehend concluded that this was her engaging in "antiblack racism" because the extremely common term which is used in children's cartoons to this day "nega-verse" sounds, if you aren't paying attention and you have some audio processing issues, a little like the anti-black slur "n*gger."

3) They proceeded to drum up a huge harassment campaign against her, using a handful of Black bloggers as meat-shields to feel righteous about their actions.

4) Her dipshit fuckhead fans then immediately began engaging in actual anti-Black racism against the above mentioned Black bloggers, and claiming they were doing so in defense of Gooseworx.

5) Gooseworx condemned the dipshit racist chucklefucks from point 4, pointing out that edgy humour used in private with trusted friends to make a mockery of racist shitheads is the exact opposite of engaging in hateful racist attacks on her behalf in fucking public. Though, frankly, calling "nega-verse" an 'edgy racist joke' is already an enourmous stretch, but good on her for cutting the dipshit fans off at the knees.

6) The harassment campaigners from point 3 had already managed to get enough eyes on her to get her spam-banned anyway, as evidenced by her account not having the "deactivated" suffix which appears in voluntary deletions.

So that's where we're at.

A bunch of white people using anti-Black racism as a cudgel to beat up a white trans woman at the cost of subjecting the people they are weaponizing to great fucking torment.

In conclusion:

I have a genuine question for people who liked the ending of the good omens finale. I wont be snarky in the comments or anything and i encourage everyone else to be civil too. Im just confused and havent seen any answers to this and want to hear someone elses reasoning.

First: what evidence was there that humans didnt have free will in the original universe,

Second: How did you interpret the following in a way that they arent evidence that humans did have free will:

- Adam choosing not to end the world and to not be the antichrist

- Anathema burning the second book of prophecies because she didnt want to know/have to follow a set path

- god/satan making a bet about what Job would do, meaning they didnt know what he would do

- Aziraphale and Crowley couldnt miracle Nina and Maggie to be in love, despite their best efforts

and then the same thing but for angels and demons:

- Aziraphale giving away his sword and lying to god about it

- Aziraphale and Crowley saving Jobs kids and lying to heaven/hell about it

- Aziraphale and Crowley opposing armageddon

- Gabriel and opposing armageddon

- Gabriel and Beelzebub running away together

Again, i dont mean this as a gotcha or anything, i just dont understand and havent seen anyone address this topic when talking about the finale in a positive light
