Me, reading the first 80% of the post: What do you mean, "experience it firsthand"? How am I supposed to join the Hunger Games or go on the Odyssey?

Me, reading the final clause of the post: Oh, you literally meant that people have to read the book/listen to the audiobook in order to fully understand it. And people got mad. Oh dear.

i’m gonna be honest the lack of empathy some of y’all have for becca in this whole situation is weird. this protectiveness mel has over becca, while well intentioned, is suffocating her. it makes sense that she would withhold that she’s having sex from mel, because she likely knew mel was going to react just like this. she didn’t lie out of malice. she likely lied at least in part because she didn’t want to worry her sister.

obviously mel’s experience as a glass child and caretaker is valid and there’s trauma there that’s making her act this way, but she has to learn to give becca some space and live for herself. centering so much of her life around becca is suffocating the both of them. becca is a grown up who deserves autonomy and the freedom to do things without mel.

they really just dropped al hashimi into this war zone of interpersonal conflicts like a paratrooper getting swept up by an unexpected current ending up way off target and behind enemy lines no back up no contact with hq no nothing 😭 she's just being competent at her job and really honestly trying to meet everyone at their level while her colleagues are saw trapping each other on the clock 😭
