Day 74
Yay i can finally post this š¤
re: that last post, ive said it before and ill say it again: no one deserves to die (deserving is fake and death is bad) but some people need to be stopped and choose to make death the only way to stop them
I disagree. Pedophiles 100% deserve death.
you are moralizing and weaponizing your disgust in order to construct and justify a category of person you're allowed to murder
what do you think you deserve for this?
Sorry, no person deserves to die, thankfully child molesters and pedophiles aren't human, so this doesnt apply to them.
denying the humanity of people who do horrible things accomplishes exactly three things:
give cover to people who haven't been caught yet by allowing them to use their humanity as "proof" of their innocence
silence any criticism of societal structures and institutions that facilitate those horrible things by putting the focus on individuals who are assumed to be so uniquely monstrous that the ways it was made easy for them are irrelevant
provide a shortcut to dehumanize anyone you feel like killing: simply accuse them of doing a horrible thing
3.a. if you've already established that only an inhuman monster could kill a child, then all you have to do to get people to burn down the jewish quarter is say that jews kidnap christian children to bathe in their blood
3.b. if you've already established that only an inhuman monster could commit rape, then all you have to do to get people to string up a black man you don't like is find a white woman who's willing to point at him while she cries and babbles
3.c. if you've already established that only an inhuman monster could molest a child, then all you have to do to get people to drag gay people behind their trucks is say that since gay people can't have babies, the only way they can make more gay people is by following a nefarious Agenda to "convert" children by molesting them
3.c.a. meanwhile if you try to address the rampant sexual assault of catholic altar boys, you're met with "don't be ridiculous, he's a priest!" (see #1) and with assertions that even if it does happen sometimes, those priests are just infiltrators who don't represent the church and there's no reason to make sure priests and altar boys are never alone together (see #2)
tl;dr: your disgust-based violent politics are not less reactionary than any run-of-the-mill homophobe or racist's disgust-based violent politics
I realized how bad of a take this was after I added my last bit, i apologize for the idiocy i portrayed in my half thought out statements. And I appreciate the way you rebutted this with reasonable statements rather than going hog wild because I said something you didnt agree with.
hey no worries. we've all been there, and anyone who says they havent is either 11 or afraid of their social circle
unlearning our kneejerk reactions is a process, and it's not a linear one. its good to practice thinking before we post, but sometimes thinking after we post just has to be good enough
sometimes people experiencing psychosis and/or mania will come up to you on the street and talk in confusing or upsetting ways. your job is to either have a regular human-to-human conversation with that person or politely leave. your job is not to call 911. do not call 911. you might kill that person if you call 911.
I don't even have the energy to screenshot and respond to your tags- what the actual fuck is wrong with you? "the cops are scared and rightfully so" "mental health calls are the scariest for cops" OH so this isn't about the safety of psychotic & manic people this is about piggy feelings?
and no, actually, this is not USA specific and no, actually, people from other countries should not ignore this post. police violence and sanism weren't invented in the US and they are certainly not unique to here. if you (or anyone) thinks that this bullshit doesn't happen elsewhere then you are not listening.
Someome having an episode is a medical emergency, not a crime in progress; it should be handled by medical personnel and not cops.
some of us live in constant psychosis or have long term or frequent manic episodes. medical emergencies are acute problems, not chronic baseline states. the majority of people with a psychotic disorder experience psychosis regularly. for most psychotic people a psychotic episode is not a medical emergency it is an average Tuesday.
don't call an ambulance on someone who does not want one.
a psychotic episode is not inherently an emergency
I am not very experienced or professional at all, but when a person is having an episode in my neighborhood I kind of assess if they seem like they might need water or a snack, help calling someone to get them home if you feel like sticking your neck out a bit, or if they're just minding their own business so you shoukd g That's all I am most of the people here are qualified to "do" about a person having an episode. Basic human kindness.
I've seen people call the cops on the same woman in my neighborhood I checked on and they basically just passed over the water to her and let her know that she can't hang out on my neighbor's lawn. (they showed up as I was bringing the water out and they wouldn't let me give it to her directly. š) it could have ended much worse if she wasn't a tiny white woman.

All for sale on my Kofi! A little pricier than normal due to the material also if they don't sell they go well with my interior decor.
have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!

gee i wish people wouldnāt use medical terms for real mental illnesses as insults.
hereās your daily reminder not to useĀ āpsycho/sociopathā or any other psychotic disorder or mental illness as an insult or aĀ āsmart soundingā replacementĀ buzzword whenĀ āassholeā orĀ ājackassā would be infinitely more applicable and accurate without being an ableist dickweed.
Reminder to not use āschizoā (literal slur as far as Iām concerned) as synonyms with āweird/obsurd/aggressive⦠ect ectā for the love of hell
it has certainly been said before but i love s1 patrick's half-lidded eyes they're so delightfully sleepy and calm and his eyelids are such a lovely shade of lavender like how could you not want to be his friend? plus his scruffy eyebrows are a great touch
About this: I saw the ghost bride hey arnold fanart timelapse and how were you able to know that the "blueish" colors felt right? (its right... ā @impactrueno on Tumblr How do you feel about picking a color, say a deep orange in this example, and using that for a "Multiplied" layer for shading a character in, again for this example, a sunset?
i got a similar ask about this a while back and i've been working on something to better explain what i mean because i'm not too happy with that guide anymore so i'm just gonna address both here!
in my original post i talk about choosing analogous colors rather than using layer settings, but you guys are asking about multiply layers so let's talk about that since frankly they do save up a lot of time and headaches AND they can help understand color more easily so we can pick the palette from scratch next time.
right, so we have our guy.
in the sunset example, a deep orange multiply layer would look something like this:
however, in my previous guide i said that usually warm lighting means cool shadows. this isn't always the case, however, because the color of your shadows are determined by your environment and bounce lighting. shadows on their own have no color because they're just absence of light, so the color we perceive them to be is what's being projected onto the subject.
this same sunset with cool shadows would look a bit like this:
if that looks more natural even though it doesn't match the orange of the background, it's because sunsets only look orange around the area the sun is in the sky, so the color of the sky that's facing our character here would not be projecting an orange glow onto him.
while it's not a hard rule, like i said, usually warm lighting comes with cool shadows. i think it's also worth keeping in mind that reference photos can look very different from one another because of editing, exposure levels, filters, weather and time of day, etc. so also take your own outdoors observations into account. always observe colors when you go outside if ever (don't be like me)
here's another sunset example except the sunset is now behind our viewpoint and facing the character from the front. he's not fully lit up, perhaps he's standing under something where the sun light doesn't reach him directly. i used a red glow to indicate sun this time only because i think it looks cool with the teal sky:
now addressing the ask with the "pikachu in a green house" example: yes, i suppose using a multiply layer that matches the color of the environment works. after all, like i said up there, shadows will usually reflect the color of the surroundings the subject is in.
this was a lot of blabbing about colors and i didn't even touch on values which is also super important!!! but i'd like to do some studies before i talk about that to make sure i'm not talking out of my ass. hope this helps though!!
also this was originally going to be a patreon exclusive post but the more i think about it, the less i like the idea of putting educational material behind a paywall. i think this stuff should be more accessible for the people who can make use of it. so i will only put out there that if this helps you and you enjoy my content, i have my patreon and ko-fi if you can afford supporting me with a couple of bucks so i can continue making stuff like this š«¶
