Sure, he missed the stables and all that, but talking about such things too much in a Gotham house tended to get him socked in the lip. Hell, his bottom one was still split from the last time.

He’d seen a few carriages but it seemed those were paid attractions rich guys took dates on, and really, Theo didn’t see the appeal of that, seeing as the carriage kept the bag of crap right under the horse. Not a great smell for a date. Maybe in the park things would be nicer, but so far, nothing in Gotham was all that nice.

He looked up at Nightwing, wishing he could say that was the weirdest thing he’d faced, a dude in costume. It just straight wasn’t. “You don’t seem like a park guy to me.”

Two things came to Nightwing’s mind. One, considering it was Gotham, a random park joust sounded like a chill thing to handle when compared to other stuff he had to do on the regular. Two...the kid could joust? He laughed at the comment.

“Not exactly a park ranger no...I am willing to bet you don’t really come from around here. Don’t think many kids here would see a horse and think about jousting.”

He could see the cut on the lower lip, and the fact that he was away on his own. Gotham orphanages where not exactly the easiest places to be, he was glad he was in one for a very short time. But he knew how rough it could get.

Turner was two things: dirty and getting in over his head. The first one was an excusable offense in Bludhaven. Every cop on the force is dirty to some extent or another. The whole place is so filthy that Gotham looks like Metropolis when someone draws comparison. The second one? A few people with a lot of money can’t let the fact that he’s in over his head stand. But killing him or sending one of their known associates to kill him implicates the lot of them. So what’s a mobster to do? Hire a professional, obviously. Deathstroke didn’t come cheap. For all the reward that comes with Bludhaven, there’s always a certain risk that comes with it. But when you pay for Deathstroke? He delivers the results people want. Officer Turner was sniped as he was entering his car. There was no reason to make a big show of it, just another dead cop in Bludhaven. The news of the murder will hit Slade’s contractors soon enough, and the rest of the funds will be wired into his account.

And then Slade sees a problem. Something in black and blue heading towards his way in a domino mask. The damn kid. He thought once would be enough but it takes time to learn. He slings the rifle over his shoulder and unsheathes his sword.

“Figured you would show up here.” He glares behind the mask. “You were already too late to stop me here. Deed’s been done, and by morning it’ll be like I was never here.” Only the young fools used credit cards on the job. Cash was untraceable. “Forget you saw me. You’ll sleep better that way.”

It was true. The moment they had decided to hire Deathstroke. You didn’t invest in him for a half-assed job, he got it done and got it done fast.

“Clean up jobs for low class pawns are now in your catalog?“

There were many things he was thankful he had learned in his training, many aspects of himself that he would never deny were serving him for the better and he was thankful Batman had instilled in him. Being almost physically incapable of letting go of a situation like this was not one of them.

Slade was right, it was better to let go of this particular thread. This was no longer a loose end. And it was not like he needed reminders of why it was better to not mess with Deathstroke, specially when on his own. He had first hand experience on that...an well...was Turner a loss?

The man had been a pest, actively making the disaster that was the PD even worse. Was one shitty cop less really a bad thing. Slade had done him a favor. Granted, it cut out the lead he had. But it also meant one less piece of trash he had to take out. And Slade was not going to tell him who had hired him, the man was a professional. If he just let him go and forgot about it...

“He wasn’t anything special...so how high does this go, Slade?”

God he really hated not being able to let go.
