“Hyung, do you find men attractive?”
“Sure, I suppose,” Cheonhee said absently. Then he paused and turned his head to Halyun, blinking owlishly. Slowly, he sat back down at the table, eyes not moving from where they pinned Halyun to his seat.
Halyun tried and failed not to feel self-conscious at the growing intensity of Cheonhee's stare.
Resting his interlocked fingers on the table, Cheonhee took a fortifying breath. “Halyun, I want you to know that I'll continue to support you no matter what. You do not need to fear judgment from me–” He glanced down at Halyun's splinted fingers, the stitching he just performed hidden underneath, and his eye twitched. He looked back up. “–about matters like this.”
“...What?”
───
Four times Cheonhee ignored Halyun's feelings, and the one time Halyun received an answer.

JJ’s shoes skid on the asphalt when she rounds the corner, stiffening limbs locking her in place as her stomach tumbles over itself and the air is sucked from her lungs. Her gun dips to her feet, aim taken off the unsub. Her fingers spasm around the handle in protest, but she cannot lift it. She cannot point her gun at a child.

The BAU doesn’t often encounter metahumans, children metahumans even less so. So when they begin to investigate the recent spree killings spanning Keystone and Central City, dubbed the work of the ‘Phantom Killer,’ JJ does not expect to find a nine-year-old girl in pigtails standing over the electrocuted body of an eighth victim, air crackling and skin blurring, looking like a ghost.

“Looks like the snow will melt today. Did you shovel it?” Jason asks.
Alfred rests his hands in his lap, shoulders slanted. “No.”
Bruce wouldn’t think to shovel such a meager amount, and Tim has been on the other side of the country for the last week. No one else lives here anymore.

Words written this year:
No clue in total, but 71k in the last three months. Goes to show that my WIPs are extensive.
Favourite fic I've written this year:
A Mother's Prerogative. It's a bit more niche, but it's the kind of thing I absolutely love, and I got to include a lot of my favourite world building and story elements.
Favourite line I've written this year:
It's a real close battle with quite a few, and a lot of them I only love so much because they draw on other things from earlier in their fics, are a result of repetition, an amalgamation of different motifs, etc. If I had to ignore all of those and narrow down to one line (though technically a few sentences and better in context), it'd be in Jason's POV from these mouths we have are traps: "A half sob falls from Dick’s lips. . ., wet and only belatedly cut off by snapping his mouth shut, but that only succeeds in morphing it into a muffled, reedy whine. A sound like he's dying. Like Jason's killing his brother. He wants to die."
Favourite scene I've written this year:
Eleven paragraphs in Angle of Consumption. From "He can't quite remember the saying. Was it three's a pattern? Or four?" to "He's made it a Habit." It was the first part I wrote for that fic and surprised me with how little revision it ended up going through.
Personal Achievement:
Getting as far as I have with buried deep, these memories. This fic grew way beyond my expectations, and as the outline and word count continued to expand, I didn't have a lot of faith in finishing my first multi-chapter. But the end is in sight, and even now I'm proud of the work I've poured into it.
Here's to hoping I finish a few more of those several dozen work in progresses in the new year!
Chapter 12: I tell myself it is to protect you / Promise
“This isn’t an interrogation,” Hotch says. “I know it's not required to put in your file metahuman status–”
“–and it’s illegal for an employer to ask,’ Todd adds.
“–but are you in danger?”

Steph ignores Dick as she guides her kart up the Rainbow Road ramp and through the ring, snagging two item boxes a hair’s breadth in front of Tim. He curses when he doesn’t have enough time to grab the next one over. Steph cackles and tosses a shell behind her. It misses, but she doesn’t expect it to hit. She decides to dangle the second shell behind her in case Tim tries something dirty.
The back couch cushions shift as Dick leans over the back of it between her and Tim. “Ah, not Tim I see.”
Tim shushes him through clenched teeth in a sound more akin to a toddler’s failed race car impression than a hush.
Dick chuckles. “Okay, I get it. I’ll let you guys focus. Come find me when you’re done and we’ll go get ice cream.”
“Sure,” Steph gets out quickly as she finishes her second lap, then lets her shoulders drop their tension in the following few seconds of straight and open road.
In Steph’s peripheral, Dick leans further over the couch, she assumes, to plant a kiss on Tim’s head like she’s sometimes seen him do before.
“Uh huh. Okay,” Tim agrees absently as he leans into the affection, shrinking the space between Steph and himself fractionally.
Steph turns all her attention back onto the game as Tim’s icon inches closer on the minimap, cutting into the bottom corner of her own screen every once in a while.
Then Dick’s head is in her space, and she prepares to dodge any sabotage or cry out righteous insults. Except he swoops in and presses a quick kiss to the bangs against her temple. For a split second, her brain short circuits.
Her kart hits a banana near the edge of the road, and she spins right off the track and into the void.
“Ha!” Tim crows.
“Dick!” Steph cranes her head around to glare at Dick’s retreating form as Lakitu returns her to the track. “This is sabotage!”
