Nico scowled. "It's none of your business, but I don't belong. That's obvious. No one wants me. I'm a child of -" "Oh, please." Will sounded unusually angry. "Nobody at Camp Half-Blood ever pushed you away. You have friends - or at least, people who would like to be your friend. You pushed yourself away. If you'd get your head out of that brooding cloud of yours for once -"
Ohh. Okay. Wanna play that game, huh!? Wanna victim blame the character I project onto!? No! No, how fucking dare you! Nico did not push himself away! He didn't necessarily reach out, but other people could have reached out! Instead they ostracised him! They made him feel unwelcome! As did you, I bet! So take your smug attitude and get out of here, william solace! You stupid victim blaming jerk! You have no right to speak for another person's experiences! Fuck you!
This is actually hurting to read. Because it feels like someone telling me: "oh, by the way? Remember how you have no friends besides your dad? Yeah, that's your own fault, actually." And that hurts. If anyone said that to me in real life, I would cry. Cry and then want to kill them. And is this meant to be the big romantic moment between Will and Nico? If so, wow. This is possibly the least romantic thing ever, and I think I now understand why some people hate solangelo. In time, maybe i'll forgive and forget. But this struck a nerve. So fuck you, Will Solace. And an extra fuck you to Rick Riordan, who wrote this victim blaming trash.
PS: I wrote this at school earlier. I'm just gonna say sorry right now. I shouldn't have said curse words and gotten so mad, but it struck a nerve. It struck a big, big nerve. So I had to stop reading and write this long, angry vent in my phone's notes app. There's some more posts like this incoming. Just as a warning.
Local house witch telling you to please learn basic housekeeping skills.
It’s not your fault if no one ever taught you but YouTube is a magical place and can teach you at your own pace.
Someone asked me what housekeeping skills I’d recommend learning.
Keep in ming that this is not me shaming you, I know you have your reasons, folks. This is just a guy who enjoys clean spaces asking that you start learning now.
Here’s what I suggest as an adult who has lived with other adults who didn’t have housekeeping skills:
First and foremost, learn about all the places in your house that need to be cleaned and understand how often they should be cleaned. the American Cleaning Institute (I guess that’s a thing) has a good article about basic cleaning info. Plus this video on cleaning tips is great!
Learn how to do your dishes. HOT water is the only way to clean your dishes.
Learn how to clean your shower head, especially if you live in a place with hard water. Same goes for your sinks.
Learn how to do your laundry correctly. Even without the whole “separating whites and colors” thing, there are things you need to learn about washing your clothes. Learn what the tags mean, too.
Also, you don’t have to use fabric softener and you shouldn’t use it on towels or any fabric meant to absorb. (Learn about laundromats) And please learn how to clean out your dryer vent, it’s a safety hazard!
Get a disinfecting cleaner for your high-touch areas, especially the gross ones like the bathroom. Just because it doesn’t look dirty, doesn’t mean it’s clean!
Learn how to sweep, mop, and vacuum effectively.
You’ll also want to make sure to change out your home’s air filters.
TL;DR, here are some cleaning videos.
How to Clean Everything in Your Bathroom
How to Clean Everything in Your Kitchen
Livingroom Cleaning Routine
How to Clean Everything in Your Bedroom
Now these resources are not the end-all-be-all, but I think if you don’t know much about cleaning your space this is a good way to start.

STRANGR THINGS THEORY
What if will actually died when he was taken to the upside down? If he died the second he got there, the second Henry and the mind flayer connected with him, it would explain why it's stuck on the day when he disappeared. He spent that whole week attached to those vines in the library. But because he has underlying powers? And we know that ( because of El) you can do damage across the void. In theory he could of separated his consciousness from his body and his mind spent a week running from Henry. Which would explain why he was able to manipulate the lights, make the phone call and even almost make the portal. It would also explain why he didn't die of dehydration after 3 days and why he was able to interact with El in the void.
Because as far as I'm aware, El can't communicate and talk to people who are outside the void, only listen in on them. So if will was already in the void it would make sense how he can see her and talk back.
And as far as Joyce's lights. If he was in "the void" maybe he could use his true sight to see what she was doing as she was doing it.
We saw with max that you can hide from Henry even in your own mind. So what if will was projecting his mind out of his body to get away from Henry.
The vines could of kept his body ( since the whole upside down is preserved on the day he went missing) from decomposing. And since time didn't move at all, when hopper and Joyce found him, his body would of only been dead for a couple of minutes.
And what if a tiny part of wills consciousness stayed in the upside down and a small part of the mind flayer stayed in will, of course it would be easy to find will in the right side up. There might be more to support this theory but it's just a late night thought I had.
I'd like to remind everyone that Nico literally described Will as reminding him of a cat in Blood of Olympus
So i think I must have broken my brain yesterday thinking too much about byler and the concept of "love at first sight" S4 seemed to be throwing at us with the Cali plot (Argyle and Eden, Mike and El).
First things first: I don't think Will is going to have powers. Not ones he hasn't shown before in the series at least. By which I mean: shadow walking, true sight, i.e his psychic connection to the Mind Flayer / Henry. Additionally, I think his "sensitivity" to the Upside Down means he's a compatible conduit and a natural "buff" to people who have powers that relate to the UD. but that doesn't really relate to the rest of this post ok alright let's get to it
As I linked above, my theory is that the Upside Down is a snapshot of Hawkins on November 6, 1983 because Henry willed it to be as a recreation of the day he "fell in love at first sight" with Will Byers.
Not in the romantic way I hope but in the way that Henry finally saw someone who was so like him that he didn't feel alone anymore. Behind the veil of his dramatic villain monologues, I think the one trait that speaks to the truth of Henry's humanity is his loneliness. He reached out to El in the lab as a way to manipulate her, yes, but he also did it because he saw himself in her. Just as a point of comparison: as children, Mike approached Will on the swingsets because he saw that Will -- like him -- was also alone.
When Henry arrived in the Upside Down, it didn't look anything like Hawkins or anything that could connect to Hawkins. Remember, he fell into the Upside Down from its sky when conceivably, if the place was linked to Hawkins from the start, he wouldn't have fallen so far or fallen at all from where he was in the Rightside Up.
Now, S4 has shown us that Henry shaped the Mind Flayer and that Henry has the power of illusion in the Rightside Up and in his red mindscape. We also know that it was love that enabled El to overpower Henry when she threw him to the Upside Down in 1979.
So, essentially, what I'm saying is... Henry felt so much happiness and love when he first saw Will that, like with El in 1979, it gave his powers such a boost that he was able to shape the Upside Down into a recreation of Hawkins on November 6, 1983 or at least create such a strong illusion of such. It also, alongside El opening the gate a second time, finally cemented the link between Hawkins and the Upside Down. and for an additional layer of mirroring, Henry's highest point -- his happiest memory -- is arguably Will's lowest and unhappiest.
Alongside this theory, which I also talked about in the linked post where I was losing my mind, is the speculation that everything Henry was doing in S4 was to get Will to come back to Hawkins. Some of these theories are based on Will having powers, some based on the psychic connection Will and the Mind Flayer (now Henry) have, but all founded on the fact that Will survived the Upside Down and was found in the library (the center the gates converged at) seemingly being kept on life support or at least being used for something that made his survival necessary. Plus, also how in S2 the Mind Flayer/Henry possessed him but didn't want to kill him, and in S3 where he didn't seem to be a target either.
So if Henry did enact his plan as a way to get Will to come back to Hawkins, why did he only do so at that point in time?
As I empathically emphasized in my linked post, I know this is ridiculous... but. sigh. copy pasting the relevant parts from my reblog because I truly don't want to spare any more thought into this:
We know for a fact that Henry can see into the minds of Hawkins residents and picks the ones with trauma to target. But what if he also uses it like a security camera to spy on important people or people connected to them? What if he picked up on the fact that Mike was going to Cali for a week to visit El.. and Will?
Henry waited until Mike was just about to leave to start enacting his plan. Why didn't he do it earlier? In my extremely humble, extremely ridiculous bordering on crackfic opinion... it's because Henry knew Mike Wheeler would never let Will go back to Hawkins if Mike knew exactly what was going on. So Henry had to wait. He knew El would try to stop him. And he knew that Mike with Will in tow will try to help and go back to Hawkins. And in the one week it'll take them to get there, Henry will be ready to welcome Will back home.

hey hold on a sec
I just realized both op and the commenter are insane trad christains so im deleting my reblog (because im not platforming their shit – this is ALSO why im censoring their URLs I’m not going to give them traffic) and instead reposing it with the following links/information:
1) The WHO still actively hosts a guide on how to create safe milk substitutes when access to breastmilk/milk substitutes are unavailable on the Institutional Repository for Information Sharing (iris). The guide is called “Infant Feeding in Emergencies: A Guide for Mothers”. Relevant information starts on page 38.
2) Here is a link to the archived guide WITH THE CAUTION that I was not able to find out why its no longer provided by the WHO or iris. It could be that the information is out of date. I am only sharing it because I think the visuals may be helpful for people who have trouble reading written directions. Consult the above link first, then refer to this guide only if you need clarification on how to perform certain actions. Link to archive.
3) The language in that second comment throws up so may red flags. I cropped it to only the information needed to understand the context of this post because I find it immensely suspect. The repeated allusions to 2020 for no apparent reason (but I can guess why, as an infection disease scientist) come across as loaded or dog-whistely. I would advise against sharing the OP for that reason. But because the information being provided is important and not well known, I’m making this alternative post for people to reblog.
4) The implication that the WHO is censoring information based on a 404 page is a really flimsy and extreme conclusion to jump to. The “Infant Feeding in Emergencies” guide I linked above also goes to a 404 page on the WHO’s main website - but again, can be accessed through iris instead. So no, the information on how to feed infants in a food crisis is not being censored by the WHO.
5) A more likely cause for the guide disappearing is that the link broke and they didn’t fix it. If you look at the original URL it indicates the guide was posted in a subcategory on the WHO’s website about International Crises, specifically in the Middle East. If you try to type in a shortened versions of that URL (specifically https://www.who.int/hac/crises/ or the slightly modified http://www.who.int/hac/crises/en/) you’ll see that the subdomain that was present with relevant info breaks around 2020. In fact, while testing this hypothesis, I came across this information page in a November 2021 version of the URL https://www.who.int/home/cms-decommissioning (which I was redirected to automatically from http://www.who.int/hac/crises/en/):
There is no nefarious conspiracy theory. The link simply broke - as many many many many links do on the internet. The second commenters reply is proven bunk by a little bit of fact checking.
sorry for the long post, but I think the information on infant nutrition substitutes is genuinely useful, lifesaving info – but i’m not going to give more people with dangerous ideological views spouting nonsense a platform.
OH MY GOD whyyyy did no one tell me you’re supposed to send thank-yous after interviews?? Why would I do that???
“Thank you for this incredibly stressful 30 minutes that I have had to re-structure my entire day around and which will give me anxiety poos for the next 24 hours.”
I HATE ETIQUETTE IT’S THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE THING FOR ME TO LEARN WITHOUT SOMEONE DIRECTLY TELLING ME THIS SHIT
NO ONE TOLD YOU???? WTF! I HAVE FAILED YOU. Also: Dear ______: Thank you so much for the opportunity to sit down with you (&________) to discuss the [insert job position]. I am grateful to be considered for the position. I think I will be a great fit at [company name], especially given my experience in __________. [insert possible reference to something you talked about, something that excited you.] I look forward to hearing from you [and if you are feeling super confident: and working together in the future]. Sincerely, @mellivorinae
THIS IS A LIFESAVING TEMPLATE
YOU ARE WELCOME
My brother got a really great paid internship one summer. The guy who hired him said the deciding factor was the professional thank you letter my brother sent after the interview.
should it be an email? or like a physical letter?
email, you want to send it within a few hours at max after the interview if you can so it’s fresh in their mind who you are.
Confirmed! I interviewed for a job right after arriving in NY. The interview went incredibly well, and I went home and immediately wrote a thank you letter and put it in the mail. I had a super good feeling about this interview.
I didn’t get the job.
However, a few weeks later, I was called in to interview with another editor in the same company, and I did get that job. I found out later from the initial editor (the one who didn’t hire me) that he had planned to offer me the job, but since I didn’t follow up with a thank you letter, he assumed I didn’t really want it. He offered the job to another contender–but when he got my letter in the mail shortly after the offer had already been made, he went to HR and gave me a glowing recommendation. It was based on that recommendation that I got called in for the second interview.
So: send an email thank you immediately (same day!) after the interview. If you’re feeling extra, go ahead and send a written one too. OR go immediately to a coffee shop, write the letter, and return to the office and give it to the secretary.
Either way, those letters are important.
Pro tip: If you really want HR to develop a personal interest in your application, publicly thank them on linkedin. Just make a short post telling your network about how X recruiter really went above and beyond to make you feel welcome, or about how be accommodating and professional they were, or whatever. Make sure to use the mention feature so they’ll get a notification and see it.
Flattery will get you everywhere… and public flattery that might make its way back to their manager, doubly so.
Obligatory plug for one of FreePrintable.net’s sites: ThankYouLetter.ws. They have a whole section with interview thank you letter templates, and a page with specific tips for interview thank you letters. (There are also tons of other letter templates if you browse around a bit.)
As a former professional recruiter and recruiting manager, I confirm, especially for entry-level positions, where you are competing with oodles of people. This little thing can make a difference. Also the fact that, maybe, you took time to google the “interview etiquette”.
SIGNAL BOOST
The post-interview thank you notes can be a good way to recover in case you got asked a question whose answer you either didn’t know or felt was super weak. So if you follow the above given template, jump in with something like “upon further thought to your question, here’s my revised answer.”
But yeah always send a thank you note after an interview. It’s a small thing but it makes a hell of a difference. And def send thank you messages to any recruiters who may have helped. And also after you get the job. Small things like that really go a long long way.
GO READ ASK A MANAGER RIGHT NOW.
AAM is an AMAZING resource for all work-related questions. This is a good starting place—basically the Big Questions people tend to have. (And some weirdness.) Job searching, negotiating for raises, performance issues, living through toxicity, recognizing toxic situations, dealing with coworkers, managing people, helpful starting-point scripts for all of the above… Do yourself a favor and check it out!
JFC no one ever told me any of this!!!!
I’ve learned (now at 30ish years old) that if you don’t send a thank you email within 2 hours of each interview for a tech company, they throw you out.
want to stand out? Record your letter in a 1 minute video and send them that using Loom, Vidyard, or in a pinch, just your phone. Still send via email and add a short opening line about what the video is.
works especially well for sales, marketing, and media related jobs.
Honestly, about 80% of the blame for my insufferable preoccupation with metatextual bullshit can probably be laid at the feet of the fact that I grew up reading Choose Your Own Adventure books.
I don’t just mean the branching narratives or the worryingly graphic death scenes, either. I grew up with the classic series back in the 1980s, which – as an incomplete list – features the following:
Multiple books where the protagonist’s own actions end up retroactively causing the disaster they’re currently dealing with
Multiple books where the solution to the mystery changes based on what the most fucked up possible outcome of your choices would be (e.g., whether the monster is real or not depends on which option would have the worse implications)
Multiple books that deliberately trap you in an infinite loop of forced choices, then make fun of you for falling for it
A recurring quasi-benevolent mad scientist character who’s repeatedly implied to be aware that she’s a fictional character, and at one point breaks the fourth wall to remind you (as in you-the-reader, not you-the-protagonist) that you’ve encountered her in other books in the series
A book where a particular series of choices results in you running into Edward Packard, the author of the book that you’re currently reading
A book where there’s no valid sequence of choices at all that leads to the “best” ending; if you happen to stumble across it by randomly flipping through the pages, the ending’s text explicitly acknowledges this and claims it’s for thematic reasons
A book that uses misleading page formatting to make it appear as though you’ve received a bad ending, but if you read closely you’ll notice that you can turn the page and get a twist ending where your dog saves the day
A book with a time-travel framing device where one of the several twist endings has the protagonist turn out to be the reader’s own past self, confirmed when the narrative “catches up” to the present and begins describing the protagonist reading a paragraph of text describing the protagonist reading that paragraph (i.e., what the reader is doing at that exact moment)
Bear in mind that all of these are written in the second person (i.e., the protagonist is “you”) and the present tense, and you may appreciate why an eight-year-old reader’s brain might possibly explode.
choose your own adventured walked so that homestuck could trip down a flight of stairs and crack its head on the pavement
I mean, we were warned.
Since I’ve received multiple follow-ups wanting to know the name of the series, I feel I should point out that it’s literally in the first sentence of the initial post. Title-cased italics denote a proper title!
(The original Choose Your Own Adventure series was published from the late 1970s through the mid 1990s; the phrase’s modern usage to designate a genre is an example of a genericised trademark, like “kleenex” or “dumpster”. You can find a list of books in the series here. In general, the early entries by Edward Packard are your best bets for the brainfucky stuff, with Inside UFO 54-40, Hyperspace, and the Cave of Time duology being particular stand-outs, though I recall R A Montgomery’s House of Danger getting in a few good ones as well.)
There was also the Time Machine series, which sticks in my mind because it was the first time I encountered the concept of birds and dinosaurs being related, and the first time I read about an archaeopteryx.

more than 1,000 russians were arrested in protests in 44 cities over the last six hours. some well-known activists were preemptively arrested as they left their house; others were arrested as soon as they unfurled placards. by the looks of it, there were large protests in st. petersburg. over 100 local government officials signed a letter opposing war, and over 170 journalists and intellectual figures signed a similar letter. this is a promising sign, but it’s feeble. as war drags on, protests will grow.
russian civil society is battered and demoralized; its most prominent figures have either been murdered or jailed. i predict that russia will become “totalitarianized” in the coming weeks, with full control over the internet and social media. it isn’t clear how extensive this will be, or how quickly it will happen. already, moscow’s largest theater announced that anyone disrupting the performances to say anything about the war will be arrested for treason. this has severe ramifications for what the postwar occupation of ukraine will look like

A couple weeks ago I was in a major depressive slump and was feeling really detached from reality. I was trying so hard to fight it but nothing I tried worked until I realized I hadn’t listened to any happy music in almost a week.
I didn’t feel like listening to anything at all but I put on my favorite playlist anyway. Take On Me started and I finger stimmed to the keyboard riff and hummed along and by the end of the song I was smiling. A few more songs and I was fully singing along and feeling more present than I had in days.
Even if it seems small and trivial, like putting on your favorite socks or looking up pictures of kittens, it might be something you need. Of course the music didn’t solve any of the problems I was upset about, but it did help me feel like I was a person again.
This isn’t one of those “must be good to be neurotypical” posts btw, these are small and accessible steps that can really help.
