Had a doc appt (just my yearly checkup) a couple days ago and I asked her about checking to see if my measles vaccine from when I was a kid was still good, since Iâd heard it could lose effectiveness over time. She nodded and had a lab done and turned out I was NOT still immune to measles, so got my booster today.
Get your vaccines, folks!
âI have a question about a vaccine,â I say, and the look of âgod fuckin dammnit not againâ that flashed across this poor doctorâs face, followed by abject relief when I said âIâve heard that the measles vaccine can lose effectiveness over time and Iâd like to make sure mine is still good.â says everything really.Â
âOh thank god,â she literally said. âYes of course. Thatâs true, and we can do a blood test and see. If you donât still have antibodies we can get you a booster scheduled.âÂ
âThat question goes poorly a lot, doesnât it,â I say.Â
âYou have no idea.â
Boosting this (lol, pun unintended but allowed to stand with pride) and adding: measles often needs updating in adulthood, theyâll usually throw in a rubella update with it; chickenpox might also need updating, mine did; and get your whooping cough updated, especially if you spend time around pregnant folk or small babies. (I say this from an Australian perspective.)
Also remember that you need a booster shot for tetanus every 10 years. Itâs usually a combination vaccine with diphtheria and whooping cough.

The assassin you sent after me is part of my found family now
I made the rainbow flag using textures from 1970s comic books! the first one is from covers, second one is newsprint pages!
One of my favorite visual gags is drawing a passive/bubbly character with cartoon-y style eyes, but changing their eyes to be realistic whenever something annoys them:
dragon age origins and da2 are like this is the most moving and meaningful depiction of the found family trope youâve ever seen in your goddamn life. dragon age inquisition is like hereâs your shitty coworkers
also half of your shitty coworkers are literally christian zealots who are keeping you here against your will
Worst Case vs. Best Case Scenarios by Karina Farek.
This is a great joke, but itâs also a wonderful strategy for reducing anxiety that I learned about in therapy. If youâre ever nervous about something, just ask yourself: whatâs the best thing that can happen? Whatâs the worst thing? What will most likely happen?
It does wonders for your nerves, really does.
My counsellor walks me through this all the time and it works??
yes babe your player character looks gnc af now will you please roll initiative
I couldn't love him more.
Her tuition so damn high she can wear whatever tf she wants
Spite goals
Thereâs a better thing to her story. She CONTINUED her thesis in her underwear and afterward her professor said âwhat would your mother think wearing those kinds of clothesâ
And she responded âmy motherâs a feminist also a gender and sexuality studies professor. Sheâs fine with my shortsâ
i think the best part is that a majority of the class also stripped with her in solidarity
Just to give a little more perspective after reading the story:
The sequence of events is a little jumbled in the telling above. The actual chastising from the teacher came days before the womanâs thesis, during a practice run of her presentation. This was not a spur-of-the-moment thing where she just whipped off her clothes for the sake of being angry. Chai took the time to think things through before deciding this was the way she wanted to protest. She used critical thinking and level-headedness to decide instead of becoming volatile and aggressive, she would choose non-violent protest.Â
I just donât like the way the storyâs being told by others because it makes her come across as âoverly-emotionalâ and âerraticâ (as women often do in the media, because itâs easier to attribute extreme action to âhysteriaâ), whereas in actual news reports, she had time to think about her decision and choose the best way to handle what happened to her.Â

Please understand if youre mentally ill and physically or emotionally fatigued, that is not you being lazy! It is your body and brain being tired of fighting your illness! You are tired because youve been fighting.
