Right?
This analogy represents the idea that rape  isnât about sex, itâs about having power over an individual. We learned this through Paula and the discussions we had in class as well. Jessica Valenti uses language and analogies similar to this to describe and reflect on the same idea.
This reminds me of when Paula, from the ncrct and talked about how many victims feel when they discuss their trauma, and the importance of how we respond to individuals who have been raped.
Repost this anywhere.
This displays victim blaming-- the act of blaming the victim, and giving excuses towards the rapist. Victim blaming takes away the responsibility of the perpetrator..if someone wants to do harm, it is not the victim's fault, regardless of the situation.Â
1. Because a woman brought into this world will inevitably be given pepper spray âjust in case.â 2. Because by sixteen, a young girl knows how to avoid being sexually assaulted, while a boy of the same age does not fear sexual assault in the slightest. 3. Because a girl who mocks men is a bitch, and a boy who mocks women is joking. 4. Because a girl who has sex is a slut, and a boy who has sex is a man. 5. Because in a murder, the killer is at fault, but the blame of rape is often put on the victim. 6. Because we teach girls how not to get raped instead of teaching anyone simply not to rape. 7. Because a woman should put more clothes on if her outfit makes a man uncomfortable, because his self control is her responsibility. 8. Because feminists just need to chill out. 9. Because a 22 year old sex-obsessed virgin can murder 7 people, and the problem is that someone shouldâve just slept with him. 10. Because not all men are predators, but yes, all women are prey. Thereâs a fucking womanifesto for you.

This is an example of what the gender binary system consists of: name calling, double standards, etc. As you can see, boys and girls, men and women are both treated with different respect and fears. Valenti discusses this issue in all of her books, which is a big part of her work, her specialty.Â
Rape is the only crime on the books for which arguing that the temptation to commit it was too clear and obvious to resist is treated as a defence. For every other crime, we call that a confession.
Iâve gotten more angry asks about this post than I have actual reblogs.
Rape culture blames the victim and excuses the rapist based on circumstances and specific situations. This is part of why many do not go to authority when being sexually assaulted, they fear they will be blamed.Â
What a person wears is not a signal of consent, whether it be male or female. Valenti discusses this in Heâs a Stud, Sheâs a Slut when she gives the example of two woman who were dressed âinappropriatelyâ...for further detail read Patriarchy System under the Navigation section.Â
Watch: This is who and what is really at the root of rape culture
Rape culture at itâs foundation is the problem with the perceptions of gender in society, and how we teach other to look at one another. Â In Valentiâs books she addresses this issue as it is pivotal to so many problems we as a society face.Â
On respect.
It shouldnât be a womanâs relationship to others that should give reason why she shouldnât be assaulted, it should be as simple as the fact that she is a person, and nobody should be treated like that.
donât measure a womanâs worth by her clothes - terre des femmes
When will this non-sense stop?
Until then, we must remember that all the unwelcome comments and gropes are never our fault.
It is not our responsibility to educate the ignorant, but it is our right to be upset and vocal about it hoping that that will help raise awareness and action.
Jessica Valenti would agree with this! ^

Defining "rape culture"
A rape culture is a complex of beliefs that encourages male sexual aggression and supports violence against women.
It is a society where violence is seen as sexy and sexuality as violent. In a rape culture, women perceive a continuum of threatened violence that ranges from sexual remarks to sexual touching to rape itself.
A rape culture condones physical and emotional terrorism against women as the norm.
~ Rape culture is encouraging male sexual aggression.
~ Rape culture is regarding violence as sexy and sexuality as violent.
~ Rape culture is treating rape as a compliment, as the unbridled passion stirred in a healthy man by a beautiful woman, making irresistible the urge to rip open her bodice or slam her against a wall, or a wrought-iron fence, or a car hood, or pull her by her hair, or shove her onto a bed, or any one of a million other images of fight-fucking in movies and television shows and on the covers of romance novels that convey violent urges are inextricably linked with (straight) sexuality.
~ Rape culture is encouraging men to use the language of rape to establish dominance over one another ("I'll make you my bitch").
~ Rape culture is making rape a ubiquitous part of male-exclusive bonding.
Consent: If you donât get it, you donât get it. Take the pledge to help stop sexual assault at ItsOnUs.org.
Sexual activity requires consent, which is defined as voluntary, positive agreement between the participants to engage in specific sexual activity. In Yes Means Yes, Valenti suggests that a person should know the difference between an invitation to engage in sexual activity, versus dominance over someoneâs body.Â
âNobody asked me what my attacker was wearingâ STOP blaming the VICTIM
One of the main problems with rape culture yeah the whole thing is a problem, but itâs that the blame is taken off the attacker and placed on the victim. Â If someone has their car stolen the cops donât blame the victim for having too fancy of a car or parking in a bad neighborhood, do they? Â idk Iâve never had my car stolen but I assume police are respectful in the matter. Â Point is if something bad happens to person the first instinct should not be to blame them for the problem.
