Psychology is relevant????
I’m a psych major, and the best thing about being a psych major is telling people that you’re a psych major. See, there are a few reactions you can get.
The “Interestiiiiiing” Response
These are the people that quirk a brow and say “Psychology? That’s cool.” In reality, they’re probably thinking along the lines of “Wow you’re never going to get anywhere with that useless degree.”
The “Oh…so you’re going to be a therapist?” Response
This happens so much, I can’t even tell you. It seems the world thinks there is only one career that can come from psychology, and that career is Clinical Psychologist, a.k.a. “Therapist”.
The “I bet you’re analyzing me right now” Response
Probably my favorite one because people tend to alter their behavior according to how they want you to perceive them throughout the rest of the conversation.
And then there are the blessed few who actually support Psychology as a major. That’s always nice.
See, the rest of the world sees Psychology as something “alien”. Thanks, Freud. Now everyone associates psychology with your ludicrous theories on sex and penis envy. Anyway, when they think of psychology, they think of it like this:
They think of it more as a theory. A sideline. A neat but not actual science. In reality, psychology is more like this:
Psychology has TONS of different branches. There’s sports psychology, human development, clinical, health, social, cognitive, abnormal, forensic…just to name a few.
Psychology is relevant to a lot of things because it’s about people and people are involved in EVERYTHING.
