idk about you guys but prior to the games starting, i wasn’t as attached to the US team as i’ve been in the past but god after witnessing their response to the whirlwind of the last 24 hours really makes me tear up. from their unwavering support for one another on and off the competition floor, to the fact that they are so firmly writing their OWN narrative despite the ludicrous claims and constant attacks from the media to discredit them. they are destined for amazing things. simone, sunisa, jordan, and grace- the fighting four- have somehow ended up being one of my all time favorite us teams and i am just so, so proud of them.

Right wing pundits have been calling Simone a "selfish sociopath," said she didn't deserve to get a silver medal too, & wanted USAG to punish her by excluding her from the AA & replace her with the next girl up who "didn't quit on her team." All lies. Besides withdrawing actually being the best choice for the team, it has now been confirmed that Simone withdrew from the AA as well. The gymnast replacing her was not part of the main team. Also as long as you are part of the main team you get a medal even if you do 0 routines, but Simone did vault in TF and competed all 4 events in qualifying. Plus it doesn't matter how anyone feels about it except for Simone & her teammates, yet Jordan, Suni, & Grace dedicated the medal to her, said they couldn't have done it without her, & said that the dependency on her was unfair. As they also said the entire US team doesn't owe YOU any gold medal, they only owe it to themselves. It is completely pathetic for these racist clowns who know 0 about gymnastics to project these things onto her teammates & sport when her actual teammates & gymnasts from all over the world have been understanding & supportive of her decision. They understand that we are all human & know how dangerous & difficult it can be to compete with a mental block like the twisties that leads to basically having no air awareness. People don't understand that gymnasts can risk major injury, paralyzation, and even death.

If you love this sport, if you call yourself a “football supporter”, you can’t possibly like the Super League.

It’s against everything football should represent: fair competition, inclusivity, talent and meritocracy. The only thing that this league represent is greed. 

They’re literally putting a tombstone over football.

As a madridista, I’m ashamed that Florentino Perez is a key person in the project that wants to turn the entire european football into an exclusive and private club where 12-15 teams are royalty just because of their power/money instead than their game.

Every year the same 12 or 15 teams will be able to compete against each other as a given, not because of their sports merit, not because of their place in their championship standings, not because of what they did on the pitch.

To put this in prospective, Arsenal which is currently NINTH in the Premier League standings and has not managed to qualify for the Champions League since 2016, will be able to compete every year while Leicester, who currently has TEN points more and his THIRD, won’t.

To give you another example, AC Milan is having his first good season in years, the last Champions League they played was in 2013, but yet they will be able to compete against the big of Europe every year even if they go back to make shitty results.

This so called Super League will only increase the gap between the small club and the big ones. No more Leicester winnning the Premier, no more Ajax or Roma in the semifinals of the Champions League.

It’s the death of fair competition and sport merit.

It’s the death of football.

When they want to defend this shit by saying “FIFA sold the world cup to Qatar, what about that?” I have the strong desire to punch them in the face.

Rant about artistic gymnastics

I am just slowly picking up what I have left off, and I am not very happy.

Okay, I admit it -- I was a fan of the Chinese team, both MAG and WAG. But in recent years they had been so many dramas and problems and other crazy stuff, man, iunno anymore.

I don’t really pay attention to retired gymnasts (usually), but reading what happened to some of the best Chinese gymnasts (and gymnasts I used to like) really make me want to claw my eyes out. In Chinese, 贵圈真乱.

From how terrible and asshole-ish Chen Yibing actually is (the rumours of how he cheated in multiple relationships), but especially how he dealt with his relationship with He Wenna, to the rumours of Jiang Yuyuan being a b!tch who ruins other’s marriage, and Zhou Shixiong being a player (actually being the “prize” of the fight between Yang Yilin and Jiang Yuyuan) and rumoured to be a predator (wanting to date 16yo female gymnasts)... dear lord.

Well, I guess it is good, that Chen Yibing finally settled down and looks like he wouldn’t cheat anymore? But the way he treated the issue of He Wenna (whom I inclined to believe is the victim) is plain terrible -- selfish, inconsiderate, narcissistic -- he just keeps playing the victim and blamed everything on her, forcing her to make an open clarification on social media, but for those cheating “evidence” where He and netizens caught him for, he had never come up with a sound explanation. He just blamed everything on He, on how difficult it is to be with her or maintain the relationship, how “forceful” is her personality, etc, when what He did was to support him in competitions even when she knew he was cheating, and she had never said anything bad about him, until he started spewing shit about her. That’s it, I really can no longer be his fan.

Zhou Shixiong is another real character. There are no details on whom he dated first (Yang Yilin or Jiang Yuyuan), but the friendship between the two girls are ruined, probably because of him. Yang Yilin also said something on her social media that was very close to accusing him as a player and she was only one of his girls. And the rumour in the Chinese gymnastics circle, that Zhou was going for younger, 16yo gymnasts... my god.  Shouldn’t the national team take care of this? Oh right. Zhou Shixiong is no longer with them, I think.

Jiang Yuyuan is a curious case. Despite all the insane stuff flying around those Chinese websites and social media, I couldn’t tell if they are true. It feels like people are trying very hard to ruin her instead; there are some illogical details, and one of the photos looked photoshopped, but who am I to judge. You can never know what is reliable on Chinese websites. The wife of Jiang’s rumoured lover said she is taking this to court, and to this day we have no updates. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if the accusation turns out to be true, but it will be a good relief if these are false.

The national team situation is also a mess. There might be political reasons for coaching reshuffling and gymnasts reassignment -- or simply being forced into retirement. Girls report on each other and some of the girls are nastier than the others (heard Yao Jinnan is one of those). Coaches pushing for the greatest difficulty and high scores disregarding gymnasts’ health. And I don’t know with their training and conditioning, everyone always seems to be injured or out of form when they go to important competitions (Worlds and Olympics). Even if they are not injured or out of form, they never have the consistency and mental toughness to carry through. The floor situation is unsurprising; their acrobatics are extremely predictable since 2009, with all the twistings and double pikes / tucks. Execution is never guaranteed. When a rare bird managed to pull a full-twisting double something, or god forbid, DLO, she will definitely get injured before Worlds or Olympics. Remember in the 90s when the Chinese were pulling multiple DLOs and full-ins? The current UB situation is just bleak, with almost everyone having the same type of routine since 2010. It is getting really boring to watch even when their execution is excellent, because who wouldn’t get tired after seeing the copy-paste bars set 8 times in a row? China used to be the innovators on bars. Now it is the Europeans who could design unique routines -- just need to be cleaner and have better rhythm. Thank goodness Chinese beam is still watchable, and they are still very good with beam choreography. Vault? I gave up long time ago.

They are also really obsessed with the AA medals for a very long time -- but after 2008, I guess that can’t be helped due to the team final format. They, though, seem to have some mental block with this, despite it is not impossible -- just look at Murakami Mai or Morgan Hurd or Kara Eaker. Maybe they should do something with their system. Maybe Chow Liang will change something (and hopefully he will help with the blatant scoring bias).

Okay, Imma go fangirling Sanne Wevers and Nina Derwael. Maybe some Seitz too. Or maybe I should just stick to watching the oldies, or MAG like Zou Jingyuan. Thank goodness Deng Linlin and He Kexin are not problematic.

Qualifications Scoring...

Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me. What the fuck is this scoring? Are those judges on drugs or some shit or are they drunk? I will never know. Fan Yilin to not make the UB finals despite having a good routine? Sure not great with some missed handstands and a sloppy dismount, but her e-score should not have been that low. I have literally not seen one single prediction for UB that didn’t include her with her possible 7.1 difficulty value, yet the favourite to win is not in the finals due to some ridiculous conspiracy scoring….and oh god Songsong. The fact she didn’t make beam finals when she usually has one of the highest D scores is mad. She had a clean routine with almost no visible errors besides like one tiny balance check and dismount. If the judging had been even a bit fairer she could have easily made the finals, so would have Fan. Both of them could most likely place in the finals and challenge for gold, but NOPE now they won’t get that chance. 

Yeah if everyone was judged that harshly then fine. But it wasn’t. Aly was given a E score 4 tenths higher than Fan ON BARS?!?!? She got a score that’s higher than what she gets with the US domestic overscoring?! And Maddie as well, and Gabby??? How did Maddie get higher that Aliya, I would never know. They were so fucking overscored, plus even without it they would have won. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Aly and Maddie. They are two of my favourites on the US team…but no one can say their scores weren’t way too high and unfair towards everyone else. I’d say it’s the best routines they have done, especially Aly and Gabby. But still, to score that much higher than Fan is not okay or fair. It also wasn’t just the US. Okay, how the fuck did Dasha get 2 tenths gifted to her on bars??? If they judges can’t even count the d-scores properly how are they even there..

I wish for everyone to hit and do the best routines they have ever done, but with this scoring you never know what the results could have been like. The scoring needs to change. Like with the judges gradually getting more lenient (or just stupid sometimes), and with some people being severely overscored and some severely underscored. Those girls, every single one of them, worked their whole lives and with every little piece of them to get to the Olympics. All the sweat and tears and sacrificed youth. What for? For this shit? To be fucked over and left out of the finals they should have been in? It’s unfair for them. How would you feel if you dedicated your whole life towards that just for it to be ruined by someone that has control over you. God, fuck them. Now both Fan and Songsong and likely to leave Rio with no individual medals, the whole of Chinese WAG in fact. It’s fucking ridiculous.

I think it is political (hatred for a nation or nations). I can’t remember from where, but I read somewhere before Rio 2016 (maybe way before 2016), when FIG (or some artistic gymnastics judging committee) went through a committee change or some sort of such stuff, the head (or someone in charge) openly said he / she hates the Chinese (or how the Chinese do gymnastics). From there on I knew the Chinese will be screwed over in Rio. The details are really fuzzy, but this is not something I made up. 

And then the Rio scoring for AG was really just ridiculously biased, overscoring many gymnasts who are not American, not just the Chinese (the Chinese not performing “”””perfectly”””” was their fault, right, but as long as the Americans didn’t fall they were promised much higher E-scores). Shang Chunsong’s layout not being credited was only one of the examples, there was another gymnast (not Chinese, I forgot her name, she is not from the traditional powerhouse country) also received the same unfair treatment. And Fan Yilin duly noting that an American gymnast touched the beam, but got a much higher E-score than Chinese gymnasts who performed more solidly. Some gymnasts had even said, what was the point of competing when the judging was so unfair. You don’t usually hear the Chinese gymnasts complain about judging so openly with the media -- they are usually pretty quiet when it comes to controversies. I have nothing against the US gymnasts -- they are very powerful and could produce very difficult floor and vault, and are generally much less problematic than their 2008 quad, but the unfair scoring is making it difficult to appreciate their gymnastics, and also making them very difficult to like.

I really hope those missing-cupboard judges received so many complaints that they want to reevaluate their lives. The only comfort I had from Rio 2016 is Sanne Wevers winning beam, with true artistry, beautifully and uniquely choreographed routine, and excellent execution.

I seriously believed the same political bias will go on after Rio, so I was uninterested in Worlds 17-18. But things seem to return to normal. Or at least the bias towards US girls isn’t so obvious. I can only hope 2020 wouldn’t have such shit. It really gives the entire competition and FIG a terrible name (but then, FIG’s reputation is never the best). They used to overscore the USSR and Romania in the past, during different eras. It is in their genes, I guess.
