context (via @mellorocket)
doubly funny that I saw a compilation of all the corporate accounts like "aw thanks elmo, we're doing well" meanwhile all the flesh and blood real human people are extremely not okay
Okay but Elmo had actually the best and sweetest response to all this trauma dumping:
And then all the other Sesame Street character accounts joined in:
And now I’m thinking maybe we’re gonna be okay… 💗
(Comment compilation from this Twitter)
I kinda feel for the poor person running Elmo's Twitter.
"So, boss... I may have messed up."
"What did you do, Ray?"
"Well, I made a post for Elmo saying 'Hi, how's everybody doing?'"
"I mean, that's kind of what we pay you for."
"Yeah, but.... <sigh> it turns out pretty much everyone is hanging on by a thread, badly enough that they needed to tell Elmo."
"Oh."
"God help me, boss, I think Elmo needs to be there for them."
"Get the others."
this is the energy that jim henson would be proud of.
and important addition

Always reblog this. Elmo and his friends will be there in your times of trial and doubt, to help you through your torment
i’ve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.
as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”
small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.
i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it.

A small clarification for the use of the word ‘sorry’ that I’ve discovered can be confusing for people with English as a second language: there are actually two meanings for the phrase “I’m sorry,” and the only way to tell the difference is context.
Meaning one: apology, the obvious one. “I’m sorry I dropped your groceries.” = “I apologize for dropping your groceries.”
Meaning two: sympathetic sadness. “Something bad has happened to you, I’m sorry.” = “Something bad has happened to you, I am sorrowed.”
Literally the only way to tell which meaning is being used is the context from the rest of the sentence, thinking about it I can see why it would be confusing. Anyway, this is why native English-speakers sometimes seem to apologize for things they didn’t do - we’re not feeling misplaced guilt, our language is just really weird.
I am a native English speaker, and this is the first time I have ever thought about this...
unfriendly reminder: this is a sex worker positive space. I will not tolerate the disrespect of sex workers here, and if you cant agree with that without a doubt then you're not welcome here.

PSA; Don't ever join A Thousand Fireflies resource discord server...
So, on the discord server, there is an ADMIN - not a regular member, but an admin, mind you - who's about me section states, and I quote “Sends u a $1000 Venmo request for wasting my fucking time.” That's it. Nothing else. We'll call this person S.
Now, grant it, S did come across as extremely rude to me - I was told by another admin (F) that they were direct, but no, there's a difference between being direct, and being rude. F was direct, and I was 100% fine with that, but S was downright rude, and made me feel like they didn’t care, at all. Also, when I mention S's 'about me' section to F, and how tied in with the fact that S was coming across as rude, made me extremely uncomfortable with them, F told me that the about me section was an inside joke between the two of them, and that F would bring it up to S, but it’s up to S to adjust it in the future.
Also, instead of being willing to work through an issue that I was having with another member (which is neither here nor there, at this point), both S & F agreed that it was best just to hash it out via PM. But when that didn’t work, S basically told me to just forget about it.
This server breeds toxicity, and I honestly can’t believe something that used to be great is now so … not. And mind you, I’ve been on A Thousand Fireflies pretty much since it’s original inception… not once has it been this bad…
