being an adult is just saying to yourself “this is the weekend i’ll clean my [x]” and then proceeding to not do that because it’s the weekend and you deserve to relax, goddamnit
why does this have 85K notes
because we reblogged it instead of cleaning our [x]
for all of you:
Omg, just got back from grocery shopping in the wrong shoes and finally flaked out... after having forgotten to take an Advil... good timing!
i know this is tumblr and we’re all playing perverts but i just think some of you would be excellent company for a late night walk and a four hour conversation about absolutely nothing
reblog if your mutuals are excellent company for a late night walk and have a four hour conversation about absolutely nothing
This made me so fucking angry I have to inflict it on all of you.
what’s the punchline here

STAR TREK: VOYAGER Critical Care | 7x05
#shout out to janeway who like vulcan french kissed on the bridge#and shout out to tuvok who went with it
Tuvok & Janeway are the kind of friends who can just make out with each other for a scheme and it means nothing to them.
And Tuvok is so ride or die for Janeway that he’ll do it without protest, despite how:
1. He doesn’t want to make out in public. He’s a reserved Vulcan man, damn it!
2. He’s MARRIED
3. He’s a telepath from a race that tries to suppress emotions and act from logic, and he’s having to get a head full of JANEWAY, who is… Very much not a calm emotionless person. He probably has to take the mental equivalent of a long shower every time she pulls this kind of trick and fills his head with her nonsense.
#okay i love this but im sorry i gotta disagree#Tuvok puts up a good front as being an Excellent Vulcan ™️#but that motherfucker is ride or die for Thee most chaotic human and you don’t think that says something about him????#hello?? he could have stayed faaaarrr away from janeway but instead#he’s her chief of security BEFORE voy then becomes a spy and ends up in the delta quadrant and the first chance he gets#he basically “bitch you thought”s the dude he was literally planning to betray already#he backs some of janeways most unhinged plans#lets her (vulcan equivalent) suck face on the bridge when at least a good chunk#of the crew knows exactly what that means in vulcan even if its a joke like come on#stoic vulcan my ass tuvok would read Spock for filth when it comes to pretending to be emotionally distant#while actually being feral for his human(s)#anyway tuvok is absolutely unhinged for a vulcan but no one actually believes that because he’s#just Better At It than Spock i will die on this hill

Quilt guild president: the summer quilt challenge. As you know it is the 250th anniversary-
Guild: -chilly silence-
President: so the challenge to you all is a quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current “democracy”
Guild: 👏👏👏
President: I know this bunch. I am sure you will come up with something spectacular, and it will probably get angrier as the summer progresses. Full quilt, mini quilt. Go wild, release some emotions.
How I spent my July 4th.
Appliqué almost done. Then onward to the background stitching
At the start I thought stitching “fuck you I won’t do what you tell me” for the last quarter would be therapeutic
I was correct.
Close to finishing the top. Now I gotta figure out how I want to quilt it.
I have one more line of embroidery and I think it needs to be bolder and messier than I started it.
Hard to tell in this light, and without ironing it, that the embroidery does get gradually bolder as it goes. Two strands at the top versus 5 at the bottom (6 for the started to be redone final line).
Not bad for first time doing appliqué.
Still need to decide how I want to quilt it.
@queerasaurolophus thank you for this. It is exactly what I was going for 💜
#!!!! hooooly shit!!!!!!#I love how the spacing also makes ‘hear the people’ into its own imperative#also. hoooly shit holy shit holy shit the combination of these songs is actually making me fucking feral#‘singing the songs of angry men//it is the music of a people who will not be slaves again’ YES YES IT FUCKING IS#ahhhhhh i’m feeling so many emotions right now
I finished the embroidery and gave it a quick press
A friendly PSA for everyone migrating from Wattpad to AO3!
Commenting Etiquette
No Unsolicited Concrit: Authors post fanworks for free as a hobby. Unless an author explicitly asks for constructive criticism in their notes, keep comments positive and critique-free.
Don't Like, Don't Read (DLDR): If a story, relationship, or trope bothers you, hit the back button. Leaving negative comments over subjective preferences breaks core fandom norms.
Phrase Update Requests Politely: Demanding "Update soon!" can feel transactional. Pair your excitement with appreciation for the current chapter (e.g., "Loved this chapter, can't wait to see where the story goes!").
Short Comments & Emojis Are Welcomed: You don't need to write an essay! Leaving a kudos or a single heart emoji in the comment section is a totally valid and appreciated form of comment.
Tagging & Relationships
Accurate Warning Tags: Always select the appropriate Major Archive Warnings or explicitly mark "Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings."
Distinguish / vs &: Use / strictly for romantic or sexual pairings (Character A/Character B). Use & exclusively for platonic or familial relationships (Character A & Character B).
Site Rules & Features
No Monetization: AO3 is a non-profit archive run entirely on donations. Selling physical copies anywhere on your profile or story text violates TOS and risks account suspension.
Public vs. Private Bookmarks: Bookmarks are public by default, and authors can see everything written in them. If you use bookmarks for personal ratings, critical notes, or reading progress, remember to check the Private box.

and my take today is that framing misogynistic writing as an "inability to write female characters" subconsciously takes away most of the blame, implying that women are an alien creature compared to men and that it is no fault of the writer because it's out of their skill set. it's not an inability, not a lack of expertise, it's the simple refusal to consider women as individual people and give them the same depth and grace that comes easily to the writer when they write male characters. it's not that christopher nolan, stephen king, james cameron (and frankly anyone using the argument, both professional and hobbyist; yes, that includes fanfic writers) etc can't write women, it's that they just won't. at that point in time it is a conscious decision driven by the laziness to unpack their misogynistic biases, and should be addressed as such
*sighs in Dorothy L. Sayers* (at the misogynists, not at op!)
“A man once asked me – it is true that it was at the end of a very good dinner, and the compliment conveyed may have been due to that circumstance – how I managed in my books to write such natural conversation between men when they were by themselves. Was I, by any chance, a member of a large, mixed family with a lot of male friends? I replied that, on the contrary, I was an only child and had practically never seen or spoken to any men of my own age till I was about twenty-five. ‘Well,’ said the man, ‘I shouldn’t have expected a woman [meaning me] to have been able to make it so convincing.’ I replied that I had coped with this difficult problem by making my men talk, as far as possible, like ordinary human beings. This aspect of the matter seemed to surprise the other speaker; he said no more, but took it away to chew it over. One of these days it may quite likely occur to him that women, as well as men, when left to themselves, talk very much like human beings also.”
— “Are Women Human?”, 1938
now say it with me: authors/artists dont owe you moral purity. an author/artist job is not to hold you by the hand & tell you exactly what is Good™ & what is Bad™. you should be able to think for yourself
"yes but depictions of (morally questionable thing) are only okay if its punished in the story" thats the hays code. you just reinvented the hays code
It has been an while since I fucked up cooking this badly.
I was steaming sweet potatoes in the instant pot, which I have done many times and is very easy: two cups of water, steamer basket, peeled and chunked sweet potato, 30 minutes on the Steam setting.
Instead I, in an early morning addled state, pushed Saute. Which still wouldn't have been an issue because Steam is just Sautee on the medium setting, but I'd had it set on high from the last time I made soup, and it steamed off the water too fast, leaving behind the sugar-heavy sweet potato drippings. Which caramelized and then began to burn.
I did smell it before disaster struck and was able to rescue the sweet potato and steamer basket (shout out to GoodCooks brand, the plastic basket was totally fine). And I got to the burned bottom early enough that almost all of it came up easily after a quick soak, so no lasting harm done. But I think the last time I screwed up a recipe I've made a million times like this was five or six years ago when I accidentally fell asleep while my buttermilk biscuits were baking and was woken by the smoke alarm.
Today I am going on an IKEA ADVENTUR and then this afternoon I'm going to make sweet potato soup, two pasta sauces, refried beans, and falafel. The reason for most of this is so funny it'll get its own post later.
You probably don't need it, but the easy way to clean burned or cooked on goop from an Instant Pot or slow cooker is to fill it with water, add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda, and set it on Slow Cook for a few hours. After it "cooks", dump the water and wash as usual.
If something really burned on, you might have to repeat with fresh water, more baking soda, and another couple of hours of Slow Cook. But it's low effort and doesn't risk scratching the pot bottom scrubbing.
The baking soda is a mild base and binds with any grease in the pot. Unlike dish detergent, it won't suds up. In the says before detergents, "washing soda", a harsher base, was used regularly for washing dishes.
In all honesty I knew about baking soda as a cleaning agent but I'd never encountered this and HOLY SHIT. Last night I filled the pan half full of water, shook a bunch of soda in, and set it to slow cook overnight, and this morning the baked on crud just rinsed right off. MAGICAL.
Another trick I've had up my sleeve for decades, that is getting a lot of use this summer (I obviously didn't learn it from mom, because I showed her, and her responce was to clean ALL of her pots) is ammonia. Not as common to have as baking soda, but it's more hands off. (I can't leave stuff like a crockpot on overnight, I wouldn't sleep, waiting for the fire) Ammonia FUMES left overnight will take care of all the cooked on crud. I did my whole stove top in a bin bag the other day...
my publisher: Good morning! Huh did you advertise for the pre-sale yesterday? Because we launched twelve hours ago and we already made sales!
me: yeah, i posted on tumblr
publisher: .........tumblr?
me: that's where the gays are.
(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western)
update
publisher: And what is your marketing strategy on... tumblr?
me: idk, i shitpost at 2am?
publisher: .....and it works?
me: depends on what the gays find funny at that point in time.
publisher: Could I have a link to your tumblr?
me: .......absolutely not.
(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western where 50 year old women kiss and murder)
update!
publisher: I've been looking into tumblr, have you thought of using Blaze to promote your book?
me: NO
publisher: But it seems like an efficient way to get this in front of more eyes-
me: people on tumblr hate Blaze.
publisher: There is no algorithm and you can't pay to promote a post? I don't understand how anyone advertises anything on tumblr.
me: That's the best part. They don't. They can't.
(trying to make him understand that we do not control the attention. We just have to show something shiny and gay enough and if people are interested, they'll reblog.)
(Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a deconstruction of the colonialist cowboy mythos dressed up as a sapphic romance.)
update with picture of a pet!
This is Cosmos, my publisher's dog.
He barks at my publisher's phone notifications. So every time a book is sold, Cosmos barks.
It's been days.
I think you guys would love to know that when you buy a book, a dog barks in Vancouver, Canada.
(Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a story where women help women bury the body of your abusive husband.)
brooding men who cannot communicate their feelings if their life depended on it are only hot when they're fictional. if i have to deal with one in real life i will curse him and pray for his downfall every night before i go to bed
It's because the writer communicates their feelings for them. If people wanna pull that off in real life they need to hire a guy to walk around behind them narrating.
#can i be the guy#ill narrate SO incorrectly#theyll all learn how to talk for themselves just to shut me up (via @cirrus-grey)
i'm loving the implication that this isn't something they hired you for, but something you'd do as some sort of public service.
Vancouver Public Library
I LOVE LIBRARIES!!
My library does “stuffed animal sleepovers” where kids leave their stuffed animals at the library overnight. Then the staff lets teenagers in after-hours to arrange the stuffed animals into fun scenes and take a bunch of pictures for the library’s social media. And then the little kids come back the next day and get to see all the pictures of their stuffed animals reading, playing games, riding around the library on book carts, etc 🥹
That is so exceptionally beautiful and wholesome I actually cried reading that.
