I…I just…why???
I’m sorry, I’m trying to keep the complaining to a minimum and I know this happened in the campaign, but…urggh…
The way it came out in the campaign was so much cooler. I am watching it with my friend who hasn't seen the original and I was so excited for that reveal and this was a let down.
It’s a let down in general for me cause like….why would Vex and/or Percy not at least write to Vax and Keyleth and the rest of VM?
“Hey come to Whitestone! Percy and me got married and wanna have a small ceremony with you all!”
And doesn’t Whitestone have like…spies or something in the employ of the De Rolos? I feel like it shouldn’t be that hard to keep tabs on the group and yet they never do.
Vex doesn’t even try to tell Vax which makes it even more ridiculous in my opinion. The whole situation is just weird.
In the campaign Laura and Taliesin got annoyed at the rest of the group about something (even they don't remember what it was) and decided to get back at them by having percalia secretly get married during the year break. It is a weird thing for Vex to do but they were just trying to stay true to the original, that reveal felt like such a huge moment in stream.
At least in the campaign Vex and Percy tried to tell them. The show really gives off the impression that if it weren’t for the truth charm Vex would never have bothered to say anything.
…When did Vex and Percy try to tell VM in the campaign?
Like, outside of Vex telling Vax that it’s alright that people have secrets, there was no instance where they tried to tell anyone about the marriage before the reveal. The first time Percy mentioned their betrothal was to a god, and the rest of the party just happened to be there. And even then, the truth of their marriage was brought up the next episode when Scanlan’s teasing tricks Percy into admitting they were not betrothed but had eloped.
If not for outside forces, there is no indication that Vex and/or Percy would have told VM about their elopement.
I will play devil’s advocate since, after the reveal in campaign, Vex told Vax that she wanted to tell him, but it felt like bad timing and then things kept happening. So there is SOMETHING, but it kinda sounds like an excuse since we don’t know when they married in the break, which means we don’t know how long she had been putting it off. Was it a month, was it six, or was it the entire year?
Plus, the secret is worse in campaign because VM was in constant communication over the break and Vex/Percy STILL NEVER TOLD ANYONE! They were making biweekly trips to see each other, which was much easier as Keyleth lived in Zeprah with Vax and Grog and Pike were in Vasselheim. The only one they couldn’t talk to was Scanlan. With all that time spent together, Vex and Percy were resolved to keep their marriage a secret!
It’s actually easier for it to be a secret in the show. Vex and Percy were the only ones STATIONARY. Like, how can they send letters if Vax and Keyleth are traveling around the world! The only location they could send a letter too is Zeprah, but the whole point of Keyleth’s Aramente is that she can’t go home until it’s complete, so there is no guarantee that any letter sent would be received in a timely manner. The same is true for Pike, Grog, and Scanlan! And given that Percy mentioned the Grey Hunt as being a ceremonial title is s4e1, then the spy network hasn’t been established in show since that’s what the Grey Hunt was! So they wouldn’t be able to keep track of anyone, and you can’t send a letter if you don’t know the destination!! If VM had no contact for a year, then it’s because no one was sending Vex and Percy letters to respond too!!
Sorry for the rant. You are allowed to feel however you want, I’m really not trying to argue. I just thought some of the reasoning didn’t make sense given what happened in campaign.
