I just watched swapped and my sibling told me they didnt like the movie much because dzo and where they come from / why they come back is never explained.

And its just amazing how this movie is made for children but still has so much symbolism.

Like, dzo aren't supposed to be some magical creatures who appear and disappear when they want. They're literally paragons of peace and harmony. This is the reason why, despite defeating the firewolf (by turning him into Boogle), they disappeared from the valley.

In the story told by Ollie's grandma, she says the people fragmented and their trust on each other vanished. Instead of still being united and fighting against the firewolf / being united after the firewolf disappeared, the valley was still divided.

This is also the reason why when Ollie begged the wilted dzo for help and seeked another magical flower, the dead carcass of the dzo answered and gave him one. Because he wanted to save THE VALLEY. Not himself, not his island, not the pookoos.

At the end, when we actively see all living beings in the forest working together, the dzo return, because they're not some miracle workers or mystical beings, they quite literally are a metaphor for HARMONY

I don't think the mdzs fandom talks enough about how lonely Jiang Cheng is. Like. He doesn't have a spouse, a courtesan, a heir, a sworn brother, head disciples (that are a focal point). He doesnt have ANY guidance or support. The best he gets is Jin Ling and Jiang Cheng is suddenly thrust into the role of caring for him.

I really dont get the Jiang Cheng hate. I understand that Wei Wuxian wasnt at fault for killing Jiang Cheng's parents or their sister, but he was at fault enough. And while now Wei Wuxian has a lover, a child, and a gaggle of desciples following him, Jiang Cheng is still alone.

Do you think he sometimes listens to Jin Ling talking about his night hunts with other junior desciples and he's filled with insurmountable yearning? Do you think he looks back at his childhood and thinks he should've enjoyed it more? Do you think he's envious of his own nephew, just a little? Like he's happy for him, more than he has ever been with anyone, but there's still this small "i wish i was you"?

Im finally finished w my dozen assignments and am ready to tackle this *cracks knuckles*

Firstly, the notion that wei wuxian didnt have fun in the jiang clan because of madam yu is incorrect because we do have scenes of the kite flying, the watermelon thing, and its reasonable to assume that there were more simply due to wei wuxians joyous aura. Also, jiang cheng and nie huaisang, despite drinking didnt face punishment because 1. They didnt sneak liquor in 2. They didnt rub it in lan zhans face and 3. They didnt piss of lan qiren during class. Not to say that lan clan wasnt at fault here due to inconsistent punishments, but to think jiang cheng shouldve faced as much punishment as wei wuxian is also incorrect because 1. Jiang cheng was remorseful most of the time whenever he was caught and he even apologized for wei wuxian 2. I think lan zhan made it his personal mission to punish wei wuxian and jiang cheng had nothing to do with that.

Jiang cheng did have anger issues, but wei wuxian also was very irresponsible and i like to fuck around kinda guy. Theres even this famous meme that says wei wuxian is fuck around and jiang cheng is find out.

I think partly your point does make sense because jiang cheng shouldve helped wei wuxian, but you have to understand wei wuxians actions couldnt be the reason for the jiang clan to be decimated again. Moreover, if wei wuxian wanted to help the wens so much, he couldve relocated them to far off villages (like the one xiao xingchen was in. It was so far off from the cultivation world that for years they were the only cultivators present) this is the part that pisses me off a lot, not at wei wuxian but at mxtx because we know the wens dont have any defining features because sizhui remained undetected for years. The only plausible reason i think wei wuxian chose to keep all of them on that mountain is because he wanted a purpose for himself because in his eyes, without a golden core he was useless.

So, if jiang cheng stands with the person whose actions a very prominent figure of the lan clan doesnt approve of, it could mean the lan clan wouldnt help the jiangs either.

You have to understand, if jiang cheng stood by wei wuxian, both the wens and the jiangs would have been decimated. The only reason jiangs survived this long and jin ling even exists is because jiang cheng chose not to. Was he happy that wei wuxian is finally an outcast, we dont have a proof that that is true. But to know that jiang cheng never bought any dogs again and kept wei wuxians flute for years, proves to us he was either remorseful or missing his brother.

So it's from the first book where everyone is at the cloud recesses and wei wuxian punches jin zixuan. Jiang fengmian then comes around i think the next day? And while jiang fengmian is talking to lan qiren i assume jiang cheng and wei wuxian were talking. Jiang cheng says oh i wouldve stepped in soon after you and wei wuxian says no you shouldnt have. Actually, if you did step in it wouldve been better because jiang fengman wouldnt have shown up.

Im talking about subtlety here. Just the way wei wuxian was unable to recognize that jiang fengmans absence in his son's life is bothering, similarly, jiang cheng failed to notice his brother (who assured him everything was fine btw) was descending into madness.

Then money or no money it would be the Jins the issolated ones...

Im finally finished w my dozen assignments and am ready to tackle this *cracks knuckles*

Firstly, the notion that wei wuxian didnt have fun in the jiang clan because of madam yu is incorrect because we do have scenes of the kite flying, the watermelon thing, and its reasonable to assume that there were more simply due to wei wuxians joyous aura. Also, jiang cheng and nie huaisang, despite drinking didnt face punishment because 1. They didnt sneak liquor in 2. They didnt rub it in lan zhans face and 3. They didnt piss of lan qiren during class. Not to say that lan clan wasnt at fault here due to inconsistent punishments, but to think jiang cheng shouldve faced as much punishment as wei wuxian is also incorrect because 1. Jiang cheng was remorseful most of the time whenever he was caught and he even apologized for wei wuxian 2. I think lan zhan made it his personal mission to punish wei wuxian and jiang cheng had nothing to do with that.

Jiang cheng did have anger issues, but wei wuxian also was very irresponsible and i like to fuck around kinda guy. Theres even this famous meme that says wei wuxian is fuck around and jiang cheng is find out.

I think partly your point does make sense because jiang cheng shouldve helped wei wuxian, but you have to understand wei wuxians actions couldnt be the reason for the jiang clan to be decimated again. Moreover, if wei wuxian wanted to help the wens so much, he couldve relocated them to far off villages (like the one xiao xingchen was in. It was so far off from the cultivation world that for years they were the only cultivators present) this is the part that pisses me off a lot, not at wei wuxian but at mxtx because we know the wens dont have any defining features because sizhui remained undetected for years. The only plausible reason i think wei wuxian chose to keep all of them on that mountain is because he wanted a purpose for himself because in his eyes, without a golden core he was useless.

On the notion of jiang cheng helping wei wuxian despite the consequences, you have to understand that the jin clan was known as the most wealthy or powerful (i dont quite remember) and if jiang cheng stood with the person who humiliated jin guangshan, the jins wouldnt have ever helped rebuild the jiang clan. Moreover, in jiang chengs eyes, lan zhan didnt like wei wuxian because of his use of demonic cultivation, as we see from the scene where jiang cheng and lan zhan meet wei wuxian again and lan zhan is immediately hostile and jiang cheng is happy. So, if jiang cheng stands with the person whose actions a very prominent figure of the lan clan doesnt approve of, it could mean the lan clan wouldnt help the jiangs either.

You have to understand, if jiang cheng stood by wei wuxian, both the wens and the jiangs would have been decimated. The only reason jiangs survived this long and jin ling even exists is because jiang cheng chose not to. Was he happy that wei wuxian is finally an outcast, we dont have a proof that that is true. But to know that jiang cheng never bought any dogs again and kept wei wuxians flute for years, proves to us he was either remorseful or missing his brother.

And while jiang fengmian is talking to lan qiren i assume jiang cheng and wei wuxian were talking. Jiang cheng says oh i wouldve stepped in soon after you and wei wuxian says no you shouldnt have. Actually, if you did step in it wouldve been better because jiang fengman wouldnt have shown up.

Is there any solid statement in the novel that Lan Wangji raised sizhui all by himself? I know Lan Wangji took him in (made him a Lan), but did he RAISE him??

Because Sizhui being as behaved as he is means he recieved quite a bit of attention from Lan Qiren as well. His mannerism is almost the polar opposite of Lan Wangji and is actually mirroring Lan Xichen a lot? Not to mention, Lan Wangji's first instinct to get an angry teenager to see reason was to use the silencing spell on him and just not say anything further? That isnt someone who knows children imo.
