I think a lot about how, with trans people becoming more accepted and trans healthcare becoming more widely available, there are going to be a lot more detrans people in the future simply because the number of trans people is going to increase. And like, I really hope we figure out a better way to deal with detrans people within the LGBT community because the amount of assumptions people make about me and the shit that gets thrown at me for stating that I detransitioned?? Like, some people regretting their decision is always gonna be a part of the outcome when you’re able to make irreversible changes to your body??? We’re gonna have to deal with that in a constructive way, rather than just lashing out and saying you’d never detransition??? ‘Cause it fucking happens sometimes.

agree with all this AND want to add that the narrative in the online queer scene of "u can do anything for any reason with your gender and change your name as many times as you want" is actually very much in line with how detransition should be viewed which is that if you feel like transitioning for a period of time and then detransitioning or transitioning again then that's not weird or degenerate or destructive it's just what was best for you or your circumstances at the time and also isn't anyone's business. this is how i viewed detransition before i got involved in the internet discourse about it and know several elder queers irl who were "just a man for a while" or "just a woman for a while" and then decided later to do something else. and it's just not a big deal.

Not a fully formed thought, but when discussing bigoted language, maybe we should use the term "harmful," instead of merely "offensive."

Because that's the root of the problem, isn't it? We're not just clutching our pearls and gasping at "such language," because it offends our sensibilities; we object to bigoted language because it spreads and reinforces ideas that actively contribute to abuse.

When we object on the grounds that something is merely "offensive," we put ourselves on the same footing as those who would ban Maus because they claim to be "offended" by the word "damn," or a naked cartoon mouse.

So what if someone is offended by a swear word? Are they harmed by the word damn? I think not.

On the other hand, racist, ableist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. slurs and "jokes" aren't merely offensive; they are harmful; they actively spread ideas and altitudes that are used as justification to ostracize and abuse targeted groups.

So I think our objections to bigoted language should perhaps be framed in terms of harm, rather than mere offense.

What does this do?

This runs a very basic script, and every six seconds, your computer will double-tap the NumLock key (i.e., turn it on, and then off) in a single instant. This counts as a key-press, occurs with a key that shouldn’t affect most things that you’re doing, occurs with no gap between them even if it could affect things you’re doing, and should prevent this kind of BS from engaging. As an aside, this will also prevent your computer from automatically locking itself, so take that into account if you need to manually lock your computer when going to lunch or whatever.
