just watched a star trek episode about a planet that relied so heavily on it's computer system that they all forgot the basics of their own knowledge. and that allowed them to miss the fact that they were being posioned with radiation and nearly ending their civilization. because they couldn't use their own knowledge to figure things out. i bring this up for no reason in particular
You have to read all the books in your bedroom before you can leave. How long will you be trapped?

You can't die from hunger or thirst or lack of medication etc.
It doesn't matter which books you've already read. You have to read them all, starting from now.
Physical books only - if you have an e-reader in there you don't have to read your entire digital library.
Some people have wondered whether you have other forms of entertainment in this scenario.
You have all the items that are currently in your room, BUT you have no internet connection.
You are also aware that you can only leave once you've read all the books.
Your life is paused so no one will miss you and you won't get in trouble for missing work/school, and you can't communicate with anyone from the outside world.

One of tumblrās biggest advantages is how different different parts of the site can be from each other. The lack of algorithmic suggestion-based feed and the need to manually locate and follow anyone you wish to follow allows the creation of fairly effective sub-communities which, while technically not closed in any way as posts are public, mostly keep relevant content circulating among people who care about it and have context for it which is frankly fantastic because it reduces the commonly seen Twitter phenomenon of a fandom post suddenly reaching far, far beyond its intended audience to large numbers of people who lack any context for it and misunderstand it or get angry about it. Not to say that this never happens, but thereās a reason we have the phrase ābreaking containmentā - itās notable when it happens as itās GENERALLY not the rule. Nonetheless despite this ability to create semi-silos tumblr also has one of the most complete and homogenous Site Cultures of anywhere Iāve ever seen. Very few social media sites really have a true Site Culture in the way Tumblr does, in an anthropological sense. Every site has at least part of a culture, as general standards of behavior and the appropriateness of certain actions across an entire site certainly exist. But tumblr has a level beyond this because of how extensively we have a semi-homogeneous community culture, based around shared understanding of common references and holidays. People joke about tumblr having One Joke but whatās notable is that basically no other website save perhaps Reddit has āOne Jokeā because no other website seems to have such strong common universal points of reference and understanding. Sure there may be one or two legendary tweets that get occasional reference but there is no common reference that, say, all of twitter understands and remembers to such an extent that itās re-referenced and riffed on daily. I know of no site-specific referential events that are communally understood by all of the users of Facebook. But here, itās Neil Banging Out The Tunes Day! And everyone will understand and participate! Color theory, the ides of March, out of touch Thursday, Neil banging out the tunes, Bald Nuance, Vanilla Extract, etc etc etc. no other site has a whole entire set of common jokes and literal holidays like this and it makes it feel like weāre all in a common community, all in on something together. I love it here
this is the funniest piece of graffiti iāve ever seen. thank you mr two pens

his husband sirius appearing here and there in his videos, bringing him water or a snack or just to be an extra set of hands, and people fall absolutely in love with the two of them, to the point where he starts modelling every article of clothing remus creates because people love not only sirius in them, but the way remus stares adoringly at him
