Did you know that Mary of Teck, the Queen Consort of King George V, is personally responsible for ensuring that Katherine of Aragon is acknowledged as a queen at her burial?

When Katherine of Aragon died in 1536 she was buried as Dowager Princess of Wales. This being the only title that King Henry VIII allowed her to use after the annulment of their marriage. For hundreds of years Katherine was therefore buried as a princess of Wales and not a Queen, that was until Queen Mary, the wife of George V, happened to pay a visit to Peterborough Cathedral, where Katherine is interred. She was horrified to see that Katherine was not buried as a queen, and immediately pulled rank, demanding something be done about it.

Shortly thereafter, the words “Katharine Queen of England” were added to Katherine’s burial location, in gold lettering sitting directly above the slab marking the spot where she is buried.

I love Mary for correcting this spiteful act Katharine was the lawful and a much loved Queen of England

In London King George V has often been seen early in the morning riding in the Row with a friend. Once he saw a little girl with a very large camera, vainly trying to take a picture of him. Pulling up his horse, he asked her wheter she would find it easier if he stood still. "Oh, yes your majesty, now i can get a lovely one" said the little girl. The King's smile was very kind, as he rode away, fori his love of all children is well known.

George V is probably the only World Leader in modern history to walk unafraid amongst the crowds, with almost no security at all. He was a very accomplished man, but his greatest achievement was to be LOVED. He was nicknamed 'The People's King'. Seen here in Yorkshire, 10 july 1912
