Random thoughts on the Assassin's Creed series that is part of my hot take is that despite people labelling only the later games to be "RPG games", mainline Assassin's Creed is more RPG than people would think, at least if you look past the notion that Levels are mandatory for RPGs to be called RPGs and realize a lot of video games not labelled as an RPG in general (not all) are secretly RPGs that uses algebra to pretend that there aren't RPG numerical stat values present at all.
The later games in the AC games just commit to being more in line with the general, narrower, perspective of what RPGs are, not knowing prior games are already better RPGs by not forcing themselves to be what people think RPGs are.
Algebra does a good job fooling people.
Played Neptunia Rebirth1 for the first time. It was cute... and then I went to Rebirth2 and a bit of the original PS3 version of Neptunia and uh...
1. Only gotten to the early parts of Rebirth2 and I'm getting the impression that everyone is in one big lesbian polycule...
2. Why did Neptune have a gun in the original PS3 Neptunia game!?
I've been drawing some Hoyoverse game characters cosplaying as BoBoiBoy characters they share a Chinese VA with. So yeah just in case you didn't know that. It's an official Chinese dub (not the same chinese dub you find on youtube but it was made back when HI3 was still Mihoyo's biggest released game). If you try to find the dub on bilibili, it only covers up until the first movie but the dub uses the "Hanna" model for Yaya but the movie never has a Hanna version.
Anyways, quick run down on some of the characters they share a CN VA with (if I get some wrong, talk about it politely)
1. BoBoiBoy: Diona (Genshin), March 7th (Honkai Star Rail), Zhao (Zenless Zone Zero), and Wendy (Honkai Impact 3rd, and if you know who Wendy is and know anything about Mechamato's Japanese dub, there is a really funny coincidence)
2. Ochobot: Theresa Apocalypse (HI3), Klee, Nahida (Genshin), Fu Xuan (HSR), Nekomata (ZZZ)
3. Yaya: Griseo (HI3), Nilou (Genshin), Clara (HSR)
4. Fang and Ying (yes, same VA. Thank you Mace): Fu Hua and Senti (HI3), Fischl, Albedo and Zibai (Genshin), Topaz (HSR), Zhu Yuan (ZZZ)
5. Gopal: Kevin Kaslana (HI3), Baizhu (Genshin), Caelus and Phainon (HSR)
6. Adu Du: Diona's dad (Genshin)
7. Tok Aba, Probe and Papa Zola: Blade (HSR)
I got bored, got into an Ultraman discussion with a friend about Kenji's moving pupil in his Ultraman form and imagine what it would be like if he gets into a conversation with another Ultra and this is the result ft Zett and Zero
Aino gets invited to the Akademiya and Wanderer (plus Ineffa) engage in some trolling towards a certain class-skipping duo
Random Dragon Ball thoughts because the Moro arc anime announcement got people discoursing over Bardock again but there are some things I wanna bring up. Disclaimer: I like Super Bardock but I also like Z Bardock for what he's meant to be for his story.
Anyways: some folks who express their dislike for Z Bardock seems to be confusing "character as a narrative device" with "character as a person" when they talk about why they don't like him when what Z Bardock as a person is the whole point of his character. He's an average Saiyan (or at least how writers at Toei at the time portray the race as a whole) tragically walking to his doom with his only solace being that his son will grow up to face his killer. Those detractors don't get that Z Bardock to his fans is considered a stand out for being an absolute asshole.
Bardock learning a lil bit about caring about people a lil too late before his own death is pretty much what Super Bardock also gets except he was allowed enough time to send his son away to safety as the last of the very few good things he has done for other people in his life before his death. But that similarity isn't part of the point. What I want to talk about is the claim that it undermines Goku's story arc in the Saiyan Saga, which I disagree because not only does he not remember his own parents but by the time he remembers em, he has long since cared about that stuff. It doesn't even undermine grandpa Gohan's effect on his life since Goku would actually grow up in a healthier environment where he can truly become a good person. The social environment on planet Vegeta couldn't provide that regardless of how "good" his parents are as people. The average Saiyan treat genocide like a 9-5 and they hung out with friends after work. It's a thing we see in Z also.
Rewatching Kingdom Hearts cutscenes in Japanese and hearing Vanitas can really be described in Genshin terms as "what if Wanderer and Cyno swapped bodies?" now that Genshin brainrot has taken over.
Certainly doesn't help that Scara's defeat in the Sumeru arc has that one bit that's like Vanitas desperately grasping for the broken χ-blade at the end of Ven's story in BBS so Vanitas and Wanderer have that going for him. Now I just have the mental image of cat Vanitas that Ven keeps as a pet and sometimes sprays water at when he misbehaves.
Playing through the PS2 version of KH2 and it amuses me that you get the Secret Ansem Report that pretty much says Ansem SoD is a different Ansem before you even leave Twilight Town, and that does not change with Final Mix. The whole DiZ is the "The Wise" plot point isn't as blatantly spelled out even in the reports you can get before Mickey lore dumps the two Ansems thing but I am curious how many people only came to know of the two Ansem twist the same time Sora did because they didn't read the reports, either back when PS2 KH2 was the only option or even via the HD Remixes.
Birth By Sleep was my first KH game. I played Ven's story first purely because the prologue put so much spotlight on him. There was no Sora or Roxas bias. So imagine my surprise when I saw the original Blank Points secret ending for the first time, seeing Roxas, Xion and Axel in Twilight Town. My first thought? "Huh, who are these people with Ven?" and looking back, that's actually really funny. Without looking at the wiki, I just end up thinking how Ven would end up with those new friends of his, forgetting Lea's existence enough for me to not notice him and Axel look similar.
Idk how it would happen but there's a part of me that wants that story of how Ven somehow became an Org XII member, Roxas isn't there and he gets to eat ice cream with Xion and Axel. Idk, I just have random thoughts
So I've been replaying KH1 but this time, I'm playing the PS2 version for the first time, emulated on an android phone. I didn't have a PS2, my cousins did. I have the original Xbox instead. Also the emulation is pretty good. There was no problem. But that's not what the main point I want to make here.
I noticed certain things with the whole "Riku can wield the Keyblade" plot twist the game built up to. One, if one were to pretend to not know any plot thing with KH and caught the foreshadowing in their "blind" playthrough, they could probably pretend to jump to the wrong conclusion that Maleficent will do something to Sora that would make Riku have a change of heart and demonstrate his ability to wield the Keyblade to defy Maleficent as the start of his redemption.
Two, I noticed when Riku took the Keyblade from Sora, I don't know if it's outright confirmed that Riku is the true wielder meant for specifically the Keyblade that Sora has been using the whole time, because it felt more like a "Riku in a phase" sort of claim. He has the potential to use the Keyblade too and thanks to Maleficent, was probably convinced that he's the true master of the Keyblade instead and then lost the custody battle to Sora. Riku being able to forcefully take the Keyblade can be implied it's meant for him. Even with future plot points in mind, Idk if that really solidified Riku being the intended wielder of that Kingdom Key. Was that something confirmed outright in an Ultimania or did we just convinced ourselves and never bothered thinking too much because ultimately Sora takes the Keyblade back anyway?
It's interesting to think about
My Genshin take of the day is that now we know Dori is at least old enough to get legally get drunk, if she *looked* her age (as in at least depicted with the same type of model as Lumine), she and Nefer would have been getting shipped since last month.
Digimon Story Time Stranger is a really good game. Certain negatives like the Digifarm situation with not being able to check for evolutions there is a thing but anything else I wanna go into spoiler territory
Long before we get lore updates from Genshin that reveals the Player Traveler and the Abyss Sibling were separated from each other through time, I once had a different thought, without any real evidence to back it up, about how Aether and Lumine were separated from each other. Thing is, when Nahida confirmed that the Irminsul for some reason has records of the Abyss Sibling when it shouldn't have, this, alongside the whole "fake sky" thing as well as how I understood certain aspects of Teyvat has the me at that point in time (or maybe it was when a Fontaine thing randomly presents the idea of a time loop thing or maybe it was circles or something, I don't remember) consider that maybe, the "Abyss Sibling" is actually not the same "Missing Twin" as who the Player Traveler is looking for. A planet "split" into two (in the Kingdom Hearts way of not being as literal) was the idea I had in my head, trapped in a big ol diorama within the larger Honkai cosmology. Player Aether in one, Player Lumine in another, while copies of the other would be made natively, thus why they would be in the Irminsul's records. Asmoday splits herself into two Paimons to accompany each Traveler.
Like I said, I have no real evidence backing me up. It was a random thought I had in my head, long before anyone was looking forward to what Natlan was going to offer, so things obviously don't line up with what we actually got. Is there a chance my random theory can still fit somewhere even if not 100% there? Maybe. I did kinda put in some Kingdom Hearts logic in my thoughts. There's also an issue of how it kinda makes Player Aether and Lumine a lil more interchangeable if across two versions of Teyvat, they coincidentally do the exact same things as the other, with some minor unique flairs of their own. One could say the same with Zenless technically with how even when Belle and Wise are together, which one is the protagonist barely changes the meat of their stories.
I think Vertin, APPLe, and Sotheby should show things to Ezio that he would have never heard/seen before in the same manner as "showing my pet things they have never seen" videos
Meanwhile, the Assassins in 2012 reliving Ezio's memories seeing this whole thing are just losing it, especially Shaun.
"WHY IS THE APPLE BRITISH!?"
how old was Ven when he was accessory to murder is another fun one. Because he’s 16 in BBS, 12 when he arrives at Land of Departure, 11 when he’s found by Xehanort, and the cutscene of Brain becoming a Dandelion says it happened four years ago. I think it was at least one year in Union Cross but that ranges him anywhere from 7-10
yeah 😭😭😭😭😭
I can't believe I'm thinking of a Wriolette headcanon because if the NeuviFuri shippers can get away with joking about Sedene having to deal with all the "noise" coming from the office and keeping people away from it, then I'm pretty sure I can imagine Sedene being confused over the noises coming from Neuvillette's office when Cacucu is there during the 5.6 Fontaine event is actually because it's not the SAME noises she's used to hearing whenever Wrio comes to visit instead of her being completely oblivious.
She knows what she hears.
