Alex Maloney - my main character. She's 5'9" tall, curly red hair that's just past her shoulders, hazel eyes, pale skin. She takes strongly after her Irish father, unlike her brothers but she does have her mother's eyes. Her shoulders are fairly broad, she has a narrow waist and hips and long legs.
Her full name is actually Monica Alexandra Maloney Cortez. However when she was eight she decided she wanted to be known as Alex, as she decided she disliked the name Monica as being too girly (she was a proper tomboy growing up). Cortez is her mother's maiden name. Egon won't find out until after he proposes.
Based partially on Dizzy from Starship Troopers. She's an ex-emergency medical technician; smart, stubborn, practical, not romantic, is bilingual (speaks Spanish and English) likes cooking Tex Mex, is from an unnamed town near Albuquerque in New Mexico, though has lived in New York for about fifteen years - she moved there to get away from the humiliation of being publicly broken up with by her childhood sweetheart and fell in love with the city, though she prides herself on not being a typical New Yorker.
In her professional life she is cautious and risk averse but in her personal life she can be impulsive and brash. She has a good heart, is protective of those who she loves, can be quick tempered. She is a bit klutzy and cannot dance to save her life and swears too much.
She is fairly thick skinned, doesn't really hold grudges, has seen a lot of harrowing things in her job as an EMT including auto-cannibalism, a guy whose intestines she had to push back into his body, child abuse and death, domestic violence and drug trips. She's been threatened with a gun, punched, had her nose broken, kicked and has been sexually assaulted while working as a paramedic.
As a Ghostbuster, she has been slimed, been bitten by a cryosprite, had her ass pinched, dumped on her ass and fallen into the Hudson River, necessitating a rescue by dock workers, as she almost drowned.
She loves the colour pink (though she won't wear it as she knows it'll clash horribly with her hair), pop music, celebrity gossip, Harrison Ford and Richard Gere. She has three brothers, Tom, a Sheriff, James, a firefighter, and Jason, an oil rig worker. Her two older brothers are married to women and have 7 kids between them. Jason has a boyfriend but is not looking to settle down yet. Her mother is Alma, a retired ER doctor. Her father was a lawyer who left Alma for his young secretary when Tom was 8, James, 6, Alex, 3 and Jason, 1. He died a year before Alex joined the Ghostbusters.
Alex seriously considered becoming a foster parent but wasn't able to settle down with a partner who wanted the same; she didn't want a baby.
She joins the Ghostbusters after her partner was shot dead along with the colleague who was covering for Alex's last minute absence. She'd been thinking of leaving after she was threatened at gun point several times, but Bob's death was the final straw. She still keeps in touch with Bob's widow and their three children, the youngest is her Godchild.
She falls in lust and love with Egon and surprisingly he falls head over heels for her. They keep their relationship a secret at first because Egon is very private and he also is conscious of the Ghostbusters being the entirity of his life and also because Peter had needled him about wanting to employ Alex purely to get into her pants.
Alex supports Egon through various crises including a serious head injury caused by Ivo Shandor, his mother dying and deciding to finally contact the daughter he'd given up custody of; she supports him when he unexpectedly gets custody of her.
Callie's mother - I haven't named her in the fic and deliberately so. However in my head her name is Corrine Winfield Spengler. She met Egon when he was doing his doctorate in nuclear engineering, developing a minicyclotron - the one used to power the proton packs. They met through a mutual acquaintance. She became infatuated with him but he didn't feel the same way about her; he saw it as more of a friends with benefits arrangement.
She quickly realised that he was just with her for the sex and soon the feelings she had for him turned to resentment. However after a condom split she found she was pregnant. Egon, blindsided by this, rushed into proposing marriage, wanting to do the right thing as she couldn't consider an abortion. Her parents pressured her into accepting as they wrongly believed he was to inherit the Spengler family fortune, not knowing he'd been disinherited.
They married but quickly grew to realise they had made mistake. However, pressure from her parents made her stick with it but both of them were deeply unhappy and now actively dlsliked each other. Then after their daughter was born, Corrine's parents found out Egon had been disinherited and were furious, there was a huge row in which Corrine's mother revealed she was a anti-Semitic bigot who barely tolerated Egon and now would not tolerate him at all.
Corrine demanded a divorce and full custody of Callie, knowing that Egon would move back to New York. She made him believe Callie would be better off without him in her life even though he wanted to try a joint custody arrangement.
Corrine had her own heartbreak when during the row, it was revealed that Corrine's mother was not her real mother; she'd died when she was a baby and her father didn't want her to know. Corrine ended being partially estranged from her parents as her stepmother had hated the fact that she'd gotten pregnant by someone she thought was inferior (again the woman was a racist bigot). So her step mother didn't want much to do with Callie although Corrine's father loves his granddaughter.
Corrine ends up falling passionately in love with a man called Michael Sheffield, who doesn't want Corrine's daughter in his life. Corrine withdraws from Callie and planned to send her away to boarding school but then gets a letter from her ex-husband begging her to let him see his daughter again and realises this is the perfect opportunity for her to keep Michael happy but still place Callie with a parent who loves her.
Dr Roberta Wesley - a research chemist specialising in x-ray crystallography. She taught Egon chemistry when he took it as an elective and was his project supervisor. She's followed his career with interest as she dabbled in paranormal research so is somewhat of a mentor to him. He also busted a ghost that was bothering her.
Dr Marian Baxter-Sousa, a mycologist Egon once fell in love with around 1978. They met through his hobby of collecting spores, moulds and fungi. Unfortunately for him, she had her heart set on going to Brazil to carry out mycological research in the Amazon jungle. She eventually married a fellow Brazilian mycologist, Professor Tonio Sousa and became a Brazillian citizen. She keeps in touch with Egon and sends him the odd sample of rare fungi.
Merritt Summers - a freelance journalist keen to write a positive story about the Ghostbusters. He's handsome, charming, witty and appears to be very much a fan of the Ghostbusters... Unfortunately it turns out he's the grandson of Ivo Shandor and a man with a tragic history, having lost his wife to cancer, he falls in with Shandor who has promised to restore his wife to him.
Edgar Winfield - Egon's ex-father-in-law and Callie's Grandpa. He is re-establishing a relationship with his only grandchild, over the objections of his wife, Callie's step grandmother. His first wife died when his daughter was only a few months old and he remarried fairly quickly to give his daughter a mother.
Corrine's mother was an artist but she also struggled with mental health issues. Severe PPD had caused her to take her own life. Edgar has kept this a secret from his daughter. Jason Maloney - Alex's youngest brother, gay and mostly out, he's an oil rig worker; a shift leader. Tall, dark haired and hispanic looking, like his older brothers and unlike his sister, he takes after their Columbian heritage mother.
Colin Watson - Jason's shy and sweet boyfriend, he's a health and safety manager for the same company as Jason and is assigned to the same rig as his boyfriend. His family have disowned him due to his sexuality.
Lucy West - rookie part time Ghostbuster, she's working on a doctorate in transpsychology. Very petite, blond and blue eyes, stronger than she looks, is very emart and is an exceptionally gifted computer programmer. She's gay, is crushing on Alex but does have a girlfriend, Jennifer, who's training to be a physiotherapist.
Bobby Fletcher - MBA student, African American, average height slightly overweight, energetic and friendly. Not seeing anyone at present.
Toshio Nobu - 3rd year electrical & electronic engineering student, tall, thin, of Japanese extraction, his parents are Japanese immigrants, pretty smart. Is dating a girl on his course, Louisa.
